Some Family History

If you recognize a family member, please email Carolyne!

Welcome!

I will be continually adding family name information and photos on inside pages. Our branch of the HAYES family dates back to Robert HAYES, born 1627 or 1628, and his wife Margaret MALSTER, born 1632 to 1633 in Scotland. William HAYES II fought on the American side during the Revolutionary War. My line descends through Jeremiah HAYES, the son of William HAYES II and his first wife, Elizabeth HOLCOMB. Rutherford B. HAYES, a descendent of Robert Hayes, was both the governor of Ohio and President of the United States. Jeremiah married Mabel PHELPS.

The TEMPLETON branch goes back to Andrew TEMPLETON, born 7 Oct. 1786, and his wife, Mary, born 1796. The Templetons connect to both the HAYES, KEPHARTS and SUTTONS, among many others. The SUTTON family traces its roots to John C. SUTTON, born between 1765 and 1782. My line descends through one of his sons, John D. SUTTON, and his wife Susannah DODGE.

SUTTON MAILING LIST: If you include SUTTON among your family surnames, I suggest you join the shared mailing listed started and maintained by Milo Sutton. More than 900 Sutton "cousins" work together via email to add leaves and branches to the family tree. The SUTTON mailing list is exclusively dedicated to genealogical discussion and sharing of information on the SUTTON surname in England, Ireland, Canada, America and elsewhere.
