I've mentioned more than once that there are many free databases at Ancestry.com

Now I have a tip for you to find all those FREE databases. Read the following instructions, and then click on the graphic below to get a full list.

After you click on the graphic, it will take you to the main page of the website. Look below the search boxes for a link that says "List all databases." When you get to the database page, enter the word "FREE" in the keyword field. You'll get a whole list of the free databases. Remember that these change from time to time, so you will want to recheck every so often. Be sure tell your friends. Just use the "pass it on" button below the graphic and they'll get full instructions without you having to retype.

Free Access to All Ancestry.com Subscriber Databases

If you click through on this link you can get Free Access to All Ancestry.com Subscriber Databases. But, be sure you read the fine print! You will get a 14-day free trial and they will ask for credit card info. If you don't cancel by the end of the trial, they sign up up, so if you are going to cancel, be sure to do it prior to the 14th day. I recommend doing it on day 12 or 13, using a telephone call. (They have an 800 number.) and ask for a confirmation number for cancellation. Of course, you may decide to keep up the service. If you can only do one subscription, I recommend the census records as your number one priority.

There are multiple Free E-mail Genealogy Newsletters available through Rootsweb and Ancestry.com. This article tells you about them all. My personal favorite is "Rootsweb Review" edited by Myra Vanderpool Gormley. I read it every week!

The Church of Latter Day Saints had decided to make a Free Family History Workbook Available to the general public. This will be a great tool for beginners.

I've decided to start a new section for my genealogy blog called "Free Stuff." The first item I've found is the Legacy genealogy program produced by Ancestry.com and Genealogy.com. You can get to the download from this old Ancestry.com article called Legacy 3.0 Is Now Free.

Since the article came out, they have upgraded the Legacy program. The article will take you to new pages. The free program is the one called "Standard" so be sure that is the link you click on. Personally, I would try the free program before deciding if I wanted to upgrade to a paid version.
