The Day Peter Max Threw Up - Bruce V. Bracken's All-Purpose Poetry Thing

There I was, walking down Rodeo Drive
Just minding my own business
When out of nowhere, Peter Max jumps out
And immediately throws up on me!

Horrified and colorful, I asked Peter Max
Why did you throw up on me!?
"Because", he said, "My love was once spurned
By the beautiful wife of a famous drummer!"

"What kind of a stupid reason is that!?
You can't just throw up on people, it's insane!!"
"Insane, you say!?", he said with an angry flash in his eye
"Hear my story, before you judge me", he said

"Back in 1984, I contributed my artistry
To a Missing Persons video
It was called 'Surrender Your Heart'
And surrender my heart I did!

"During post-production, I drew her aside
And I confessed my love, attempting to kiss her
But she pulled away, screamed for her husband
Who charged me, and beat me nearly to death with his sticks!

"With only seconds to save myself, I reached for my paints
I swallowed every amount, then lost consciousness
My coterie found me in the alley, and pronounced me dead
I was buried within a week, forever consigned to the earth

"But what my dear friends could not suspect
Was that the fluorescent hues in the paints
Were the product of special radioactive isotopes
With rejuvenating, life-giving properties!

"What seemed to be death was merely
A process similar to that of a caterpillar
Turning into a butterfly; alive, brilliant with color!
And possessing a most wonderful gift!

"Where I once brought joy to people with my paintings
I can now paint people with my vomit, my gorgeous vomit!
And they will be like me, beautiful, reborn, brilliant!
More alive than ever, happy for their temporary death!"

And with that, he jumped and ran down Rodeo Drive
Oh, so beautiful, alive, shining with color!
And I thought, as I began to feel very sleepy
"What a glorious destiny awaits me!"
