Welcome to my Socialist Manifesto page! That's right commrads! I'm so disgusted with all the
right-wing politics in Amerikkka that I'm switching over from being a Democrat to a Socialist!
Martin Luther King -- -- Albert Einstein -- -- Susan B. Anthony
Who has not heard their names, or have read about them? Their shared qualities immediatly come to mind - Intelligence, leadership, integrity, and courage.
Although it is not generally known, and not mentioned in most history books, they also shared a common political commitment. They were Socialists.
Now what exactly does this mean? It means that they thought that our economic system places far too much power in the hands of too few people. It also means that they believed that this power must be challenged if humankind is to move forward, and it means they wanted a world where ordinary men and women all have a basic right to their own destinies.
I also believe in the same vision, that is why I plan to apply for membership in an organization that embodies and promotes the very same values and beliefs. That is why I intend to join the DSA, the Democratic Socialists of America.
It is time to stand up and say what we really believe, and to talk openly about redistributing wealth and power in this country. I say let us revive that old slogan, "Be responsible: Demand the impossible!"
DSA never forgets that today's conventional wisdom was first the idea of somewild-eyed radical. Society needs radical voices, the voices of the Kings and Anthonys, also the Mother Joneses, the Michael Harringtons, the I. F. Stones and all those ordinary people who are willing to stand up for their beliefs.
What the DSA wants to do for America is what radicals have always done at their best, to broaden the debate, expand the options, and to change society itself. And the DSA offers something more. To bring these ideas together in a far reaching vision of a better world.
The vision is rooted in the enduring values of Democracy, equality, and community. We believe that men and women can and should bring instutions under democratic control, and the right for all to enjoy full participation in every aspect of life. Every day, many of the countrie's most important decisions are made NOT in legislaters, but in corporate boardrooms. That must end.
Don't think for one moment, however, that the DSA's commitment to radical social change places them above the fray of daily politics. On the contrary, it demands, and shapes, their active movement. For it is the political struggle that builds solidararity, radicalizes people, and changes power relations.
The DSA's strategy is centered on forming coalitions among all the
constituencies for social change, and building a majority movement that can democrtatcally transform American Society.
Note: all of the above is roughly quoted, though not exactly word for word from material that I had recieved in the mail from the DSA. I have studied all the information and have found that I had been a Socialist all of my life and never knew it! I it my most sincere hope that some of you who are reading this will follow my example and join me in applying for membership in the DSA.
The DSA seeks nothing less than to free the human mind and spirit through radical restructureing of our economic, social, and political instutions. I feel that it will be a great honor to be a part of the struggle!
So, come on my fellow nightbirds and dear commrads! Won't you join me?
