Jeptha Smith

Jeptha Smith was born November 20, 1822 in Mississippi. By 1860 he had settled in Angelina County, Texas. During the War for Southern Independence he served as a private in Company B, 3rd Brigade, Texas State Troops. Jeptha Smith was a founding member of Ryan Chapel Church in 1866. He was a farmer and cattleman, a large landholder, and a deer hunter of some renown. He died on July 21, 1900.
