Charles and Alcie Reeves

Charles Armstrong Reeves was born 9 January 1836 to the parents of Green and Jane Johnson REEVES, in what was known as the San Augustine County, Republic of Mexico, but what is now known as Texas. Two month after his birth his uncle Lewis Johnson would die at the battle of the Alamo. At the age of 19 he would marry his first wife, 13 year old Margaret Leath Hall.
On 8 May 1862 – 26 year old Charles A. Reeves, married , of Gonzales Texas, with a $90 horse and $25 of equipment he enlisted as a Private for 3 years or the duration of the war in Captain B.F. Week’s Co. C, Willis’ Cav. Battalion, of Waul’s Texas Legion. Charles was described as being 5’10” tall, had black eye’s and black hair, and a dark complexion. George W. Reaves enlisted in the same unit as his brother Charles. Mid-to-late 1862: Waul’s Legion saw service in AR and LA. By late 1862 both the Cavalry Battalion and Light Artillery had been detached. During this time Margaret had died. It was heard in the family that Charles had came home from the Civil War, there had been a disturbance in which Charles, “killed another man over an incident involving his 1st wife.”
Towards the end of the Civil War, Charles met and married his 2nd wife Alcie Ann Ivey in Gonzales County, Texas.
21 December 1917 – Charles fell ill and died in Lampasas, Texas. By 4 February 1918 his widow Alcie filed Mortuary Warrant while living in or near Thurber, Erath County, Texas at the time. On the 12 Feb 1918 Alcie applied for Charles pension and was approved on the 22 of July of that same year. Alcie Reeves later moved to Bell Co., Texas, to live with her brother George W. Ivey. She dies there.
