History of Christmas in America

Do you remember the "turning the tide" Revolutionary War victory of General George Washington over the Hessian on Christmas eve? Was that some sacrifice? Did they fight for freedom against tyranny on Christmas eve? The answer from history, both culturally and militarily, is a resounding NO!!!

Those early Americans didn't celebrate Christmas. They knew the Germans would be ripe pickings because Christmas was a German celebration that was celebrated in drunkenness. The Christmas wreath is from Bacchus of "drunkenness and revelry" fame!

Did you know...Christmas was outlawed in early America...Congress was in regular session 12/25/1789---the first Christmas under America's new constitution...the New York city council instituted the city's first police force in response to Christmas rioting of 1828...Christmas wasn't declared a federal holiday until 6/26/1870!!!
