Vehicle Skid Control

The Vehicle Skid Control (VSC) is a special computer designed by Lexus that greatly adds to the vehicle's stability during cornering. The VSC works in conjunction with the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and the Lexus Traction Control System (TRAC). The VSC has sensors that detect yaw (direction of the car) and lateral g forces. During a turn, if the VSC system detects oversteer or understeer, it counteracts those forces to keep the vehicle in control. When understeer (slipping of the front tires) is detected, VSC applies the rear brakes and eases off the throttle to slow the car and gain control. If oversteer (slipping of the rear tires) is detected, VSC applies the outside front brake to rotate the car into its intended direction for the turn. This adds to the driver's confidence in wet weather and the general cornering ability of the vehicle.
