- Get tips on interviewing. Then go on information interviews.
- Write a resume that sells!
Build a network of people that will help:
- Meet people. Join an association, use your school's alumni office or visit virtual/physical career fairs.
- Use your keyboard. Meet others in a chat room, and use the newsgroups and mailing lists to get email.
Find the employer:
- Research companies and industries.
- Here are most of the high tech companies in the Dallas area.
- Learn to tap into the hidden job market.
- Read publications to find the niche only you can fill.
And maybe:
- Use the telephone to call job lines.
- Post your resume on a job search engine and sign up for automatic email about job openings.
- Search through current job postings of many search engines at once -- using meta job search engines!
Or even:
- Get work through agencies and consulting firms.
- Consider your alternatives. Maybe you should start a business, telecommunte, or get training?
- Consider an internship, part-time, seasonal or volunteer work, work outside IT or overseas work.
