FOUNDING
Bethel Christian School is an outreach ministry of Bethel Assembly. BCS was founded in 1966 by Reverend Charles Savage as a ministry to preschool, kindergarten and first grade age groups. The ministry of BCS has now grown to incorporate a preschool, elementary, and junior high with the goal of adding additional grades.
Bethel Christian School is accredited by and a member of the Association of Christian Schools and Teachers (ACTS). The operation of the school is supervised by the administrator and the Official Board of Bethel Assembly.
PURPOSE
The purpose of Bethel Christian School is to provide a quality education in all areas of life, nurturing the student in the Word of God with the goal of living a quality Christian life.
Our hope is that every student will construct their world view on the basis of the Bible. Bethel Christian School commits to the highest standards of morality and Christian behavior and seeks to observe that result in the life of each student.
Applications for admission are available at the school office. Students are admitted after they have successfully completed an interview with the principal, and any necessary testing. A pre-determined fee will guarantee a place for your child until such time that tuition is due. The student's file must be complete before the student may attend classes.
Required Forms
The student's file is a vital link between the school and the parent. Current and acurate information is necessary to keep lines of communication open. Although emergencies are rare, we must be prepared for them. The more accurate your student's file, the sooner we will be able to reach you and take care of your child's needs.
Please keep the office informed so your child's records reflect change of address, telephone numbers, places of employment, and the names of persons to call in case parents cannot be reached.
The Health Department also inspects the files for immunization records and physician information. Please keep this information current.
Withdrawal Procedure
Should you decide to withdraw your child from BCS, a two week notification of your intent will be necessary in order for your tuition to be pro-rated. An official withdrawal notice must be submitted to the school office. Notifying the teacher is not considered official notice, nor is a telephone call.
No transcript or report cards will be forwarded to another school or released to an individual until all financial obligations have been met. Liekwise, no records will be released until all financial obligations have been met. All fees are due until official notice has been received.
Report cards will be distributed six times a year. Three grading periods (18 weeks) constitute one semester. The semester grades averages is obtained by averaging the three 6 weeks grades and the semester final. The grade reports are sent home the Wednesday following the end of the grading period.
Grades Kindergarten and below are given letter grades of S for Satisfactory, N for Needs Improvement, or U for Unsatisfactory.
Number grades are given for each class above Kindergarten. The scale is as follows:
100-90..............A
89-80................B
79-70................C
69 and below....F (no credit is isued)
Music, computer, and PE classes are given the grades of S or U in the elementary grades. All other classes are given numerical grades.
In the junior high grades, electives, computer, Spanish and P.E. are given numerical grades. Any student who fails more than two classes for the year will not be promoted to the next grade level. Progress reports will be sent home the Wednesday following the third week of the grading period. This is to give parents and opportunity to see how your student is doing before the six weeks has ended. Progress reports need to be signed and returned the following day.
Curriculum
Bethel Christian School uses A Beka Book as its main curriculum. A Becka Book Publications is the national publishing arm of Pensacola Christian college. they provide quality education from a Christian perspective.
Other curriculums are used when they will benefit the student. In the upper grades Bob Jones Curriculum is used in History and Spelling. Bob Jones is a Christian based curriculum company published by Bob Jones University Press.
In Junior high several different curriculums will be used. The main curriculums used are A Beka fro literature, spelling and grammar, Bob Jones for history, and Saxon for math and science. Other curriculums may be used from time to time in a never ending effort to improve the quality of the education being provided at BCS.
Bible Curriculum
the clear teaching of the Bible is the most important subject in the Christian school. It is taught specifically and systematically to all students each day. For the elementary grades, the A Becka Book Bible program presents the Bible in the narrative style in which it is written. The stories of the Old and NEw Testaments in the lower grades lead up to a presentation of the more abstract statements in the New Testament epistles for older students. Teh curriculum has been planned so that students going through the program will be thoroughly acquainted with the basic portions of the Scriptures.
In Junior High a variety of materials and ways will be used to lead a student to a greater understanding of the scriptures and to equip them to make a personal decision for themselves. Students will study the traditional Bible stories, parables and miracles of Jesus, and conduct a continual study of the Bible during the year. Students will also be encouraged to apply what they have learned to their personal lives and consider what Jesus would do in their situation.
Tuition is based on a yearly fee and will remain unchanged for the duration of the school year. The tuition may be paid in full at the beginning of the school year for a 10% discount. It may also be paid in monthly installments due on the 1st day of every month. There is never a reduction in tuition for holidays or days missed for any reason.
