David Gunn, 49, died Friday, July 23, 1999, after a courageous six-year battle with primary pulmonary hypertension in St. Paul's Hospital in Dallas, Texas.
He was born in San Angelo, Texas, July 16, 1950. He attended public schools in Illinois and Germany and graduated from Central High School in 1968. He attended NMMI, Schreiner College and received a BBA from TCU.
He worked for SESCO before moving to Millspaugh River Ranch in Sheffield, Texas, as manager after his marriage to Pat Holmes Sparks July 4, 1980. He was a partner in the Millspaugh ranching interest in Crockett County and a director of Woolgrowers Central Storage Co. After being diagnosed with primary pulmonary hypertension, David and his wife, Pat, moved to San Angelo and became owner/operators of Carousel Needleart.
David was an active member of the board of directors of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA).
He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred David Gunn; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Findlater and Mr. and Mrs. Joel Westbrook, pioneer families of San Angelo.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Holmes Gunn; daughter, Shai Wood, husband Lee and children Eric, Christopher and Debra Nicole; son, Kenneth-Ross Sparks and wife Angela; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Austin C. Millspaugh; sister, Marty Miller, husband Don and children Jason and Austin; sister, Jenny Young, husband Rick and children Molly and Stewart; sister, Sara Ingram, husband Mike and her son and daughter-in-law Wes and Jessica Cochran; mother- and father-in-law, Imogene and Ken Holmes; brother-in-law, Donald Holmes, wife Karen and children Bailey and Kenna; brother-in-law, Ronald Holmes, wife, Leta, and children Linsey and Rachael; sister-in-law, Debra White, husband Brad and children Ben and Jacob; and close family friend, Vesper Nell Burks, and a plethora of other friends who loved him dearly.
The graveside celebration will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Fairmount Cemetery, with a memorial service following at 2 p.m. at Angelo Bible Church. Please understand that this graveside service will be very informal - it will be a time of sharing joyful memories of David and the Lord's light that he was to so many.
