Regarding the Karl Weiss e-mail:

I knew Karl for a couple of years before high school. He was a studious kind of guy. I thought he was pretty damn smart. I guess he is still hurting from the way he was treated at Central by his fellow students. What bothers me is why his e-mail is such a mystery to you. I will try to give you some insight into his enigmatic message:

At Central there were some folks that didn't have all the good looks, had dorky hair cuts, their parents weren't wealthy, or whose families were not descendants of the ladies that worked the original whorehouses in Saint Angela. (I often wondered where old money came from)

Some kids at Central weren't even born in Texas! They were Yankees and they talked funny.
There were some kids that weren't football players or track athletes. There were some students that didn't have fancy new cars when they were freshmen.
These kids were looked down on. They didn't rate. They weren't cool.
Can you believe some of these kids were actually interested in science and math?
Some of them wanted to learn to play music! Band geeks! YIKES! Who would have wanted to date a band geek back then? (Music didn't seem to help me at the time, but just a few years later, I spent over a decade having more fun than any young man ever deserved. Rock and roll was very, very, good to me. I still say it was that old Kharmic wheel. At this point I really need to thank ALL the CHS girls that never went out with me.)
I guess what I am really trying to say is that Karl was cut to the very marrow of the bone by his peers. I am sure he was not alone.
Personally, I feel high school was the biggest waste of time in my entire existence. I remember Central High School as the campus where I learned to say, "FUCK YOU!" and "Who gives a SHIT what YOU think?" and mean it.
