Are you missing out on discounts of 10-30% across Texas because you're embarrassed to ask some bored, 16-year-old sales clerk about them? That's your choice, but age-related discounts or other discounts are really just special sale prices. You probably wouldn't ask to pay full price for something you found on sale at Foleys, Walmart or a factory outlet store, so why forego senior discounts? Retailers and service providers want your business any way they can get it so forget paying retail, and let's start our Christmas shopping early at the outlet malls!
About 35 percent of the stores in the Sealy Horizon Outlet Center (west of Houston), San Marcos Factory Shops, Gainesville Factory Shops, and Tanger Outlet Centers in San Marcos and Terrell give senior discounts (usually on Tuesdays) to savvy shoppers who ask for them. Factory store senior discounts usually begin at age 55 and are at least 10% off non-sale merchandise. Large groups and tour buses are welcomed, so it's wise to contact the mall management ahead of time about special coupon books for groups of 12 or more from your church or senior activity center.
