This new WB series is about young Clark Kent and how he deals with his forming superpowers in his teenage years. Thirteen years ago, a meteor shower burst from the heavens, raining destruction on the unsuspecting citizens of Smallville, Kansas. The intervening years have left the town's inhabitants with scars and secrets. From the ashes of tragedy, Clark Kent has grown into an awkward teen. While adolescence always brings its challenges, Clark's transition from boyhood to manhood has been particularly difficult. He must struggle to come to grips with his emerging superpowers - and the effects of kryptonite - while battling the strange things that have plagued this idyllic Midwest hamlet since the meteor shower.
This season, as Clark grows older, he finds his life becomes even more complicated. He will
discover an unsettling new power, and a new form of kryptonite will bring about frightening
effects on his personality. In a surprising twist, the secret of Clark's true identity will be revealed to one of his closest friends.
Over the years, Clark has forged a remarkable relationship with Lex Luthor, though neither has an inkling of how their destinies will ultimately collide. Lex came to believe he was poisoned and left for dead by this father, Lionel Luthor. Lex used all his power to put his father behind bars, Even so, Lex is steadily continuing on the path from good to evil. At the end of season three, Clark was enticed by a Kryptonian girl, Kara, who had been sent to bring him home. After being pulled violently into the cave wall, Clark becomes trapped in a phantom zone.
As Season Four begins, Clark seems to have resurfaced in Smallville, but is it really Clark or his alter ego, the emotionless Kryptonian Kal-El? Breaking the show's long-standing rule, "No Flights, No Tights," Clark/Kal-El will soar up into the sky for the very first time. Continuing the tradition of introducing well-known characters from the Superman mythology, Clark will also encounter the speedster known as The Flash and answer the longtime question who is the fastest teen alive.
For Clark, now the most eligible bachelor in Kansas, it's hard hiding his extraordinary gifts behind farmboy flannel. Now he's off to college, enrolling close to his home (and sweetheart Lana), but still heeding the call of his Kryptonian destiny. Remaining true to the original mythology, Clark finds himself traveling great distances to unlock his true potential. Lex Luthor, meanwhile, continues battling for control of his father's company as he comes to realize his own destiny, one bent on power, destruction, and revenge. This is the season that changes everything. Clark Kent finally begins to accept his destiny and takes giants leaps towards becoming the Man of Steel.
This season, Clark Kent and Lex Luthor have become the sworn enemies that comic book aficionados have always known and loved. Clark must battle his way out of the Phantom Zone. Thrown into this Kryptonian jail created by Jor-El, Clark finds himself without powers and surrounded by revenge-seeking criminals sent away by his father. Jor-El's old assistant, a young woman named Raya (guest star Pascale Hutton), comes to his aid in the Phantom Zone and helps Clark escape. Unfortunately, there may have been others who escaped with him.
