Gia was stunned to see Nikolas and Liz in the same shower together. She demanded to know what was going on and wasn't satisfied with their explanation that it was a mistake. She called Lucky in who did believe them. Gia offered to make things fair by disrobing in front of Lucky, but Liz put the kibosh on that plan. Gia pretended to make peace, but drew Liz a cold shower as retribution. She told Nikolas that she wouldn't stand for any "hoochie mama" coming between them. Nikolas laughed and assured her that she had nothing to worry about. Mac and Felicia kissed, then gently pulled away from each other. They mutually realized that there was no fire left between them and decided it was time to end their marriage for good. Maxie and Georgie saw them and asked if they were getting back together. Mac sadly told them that he and Felicia were finished, but he told them that he would always be their father. He kissed them goodbye, hugged Felicia and left. Chloe stopped by with Felicia's dress for the Nurses Ball and Felicia told her about ending things with Mac. After calling Luke, who didn't have time to talk to her, Felicia was ready to swear off men for good. She later stood by the window and cried over the state of her relationships. The girls came downstairs and held onto their mother, offering her comfort. Scott waited for Laura at the PC Grille, but she never showed up. Mac came in after leaving Felicia and the two men commiserated over the sorry state of their lives. Both realized that Luke was at the crux of their problems with their women and tried to figure out the man's strange appeal. Mac wished Scott luck in winning Laura back, but Scott said he didn't need it. Mac sat outside in the rain and cried as he realized his marriage truly was over. Luke stalled on signing the property settlement papers when he realized that signing them would signify the end of the Luke and Laura era. They both reflected on how they had come to a point where they were ending their lives together. Laura assured Luke that she had had a wonderful time on the road with him, but it had never been enough. She had always wanted to come home to Port Charles. Luke understood and marveled that they had made a go of it for as long as they did. Laura told him that she would always be proud that he had been her husband. Luke told her that he no longer saw a little girl when he looked at her. Instead, he saw a magnificent woman. She declared that he had taught her all the magnificence she knew. Knowing that they would always be connected through their children and that a divorce couldn't erase the memories, Luke agreed to sign the papers. Laura cried as he signed them and handed them to her. He watched her walk away in the rain and she looked back at him one last time. He raised his hand in a final farewell and with tears streaming down her face, she waved goodbye.

An improved Sonny ate dinner at the table with Angel. The two bonded as she told him bits and pieces of her life--including the fact that she had been married. When she tried to ask about his wife however, Sonny clammed up. Because they were low on supplies and Sonny needed more medicine, Angel decided to take a trip into town. When she left, Sonny called Benny to give him instructions about the business. Mike happened to be in the office looking for word on Sonny. He snatched the phone away and demanded that Sonny tell him he was okay.  Carly headed to the Deception offices and found out from Laura that Sonny had sold her shares of the company. Rather than believe that her husband sold her out, Carly chose to believe that Scott and Laura had concocted a scheme against her. Laura offered to let Carly work at Deception anyway, but Carly wouldn't hear of anything except a full partnership. Scott told her that she had ruined her own business and marriage and Carly stormed out. Her luck went from bad to worse when she tried to get her driver to take her someplace and he refused. He told her that Benny had given him strict orders that he was not to work for Carly again. Carly took the keys from him even though she couldn't drive and started the car. As she backed up, she hit another car. A woman emerged and Carly came face to face with Angel.  Emily and Zander prepared for their trip out of town. Emily bought them disguises so that Sorel and his men wouldn't recognize them. As they tried the costumes on and laughed, Edward heard them in the boathouse and burst in. He was ready to call the guards to have Zander thrown off the property when Skye hurried in. She told Edward that she had invited Zander over. Stunned, Edward allowed her to drag him off. She persuaded him to let Emily and Zander have time alone since they were on the grounds and not in any danger. When he left, Skye gave Zander and Emily a lot of money for their trip. Emily embraced her and thanked her for being a supportive big sister. She asked Skye for two more favors. She asked Skye to deliver a letter of explanation to Monica and Alan. She also asked Skye to perform in the Nurses Ball with Alan. Overwhelmed, Skye agreed.  Lucy ran around frantically trying to prepare for the impending Nurses Ball. She interrupted Alan and Monica's conversation to beg them to be on time. The doctors were discussing Alan's performance with Emily and Alan expressed doubt about not including Skye. Monica assured him that he would have plenty of time with his daughter once Emily was in college. Lucy was shocked to hear that Alan had yet another illegitimate child, but her main concern was just that Skye not ruin the ball.  Luke headed for Felicia's with flowers in hand. He attempted to explain why he had hung up on her the day before, but he could barely get the words out due to constant interruptions. Finally, he was able to tell her that though he couldn't make a firm commitment to her, he did want to try again.

Carly came face to face with Angel after they were involved in a minor fender bender. She took Angel's information, but Angel never revealed that she knew about Sonny. Carly stormed into Alexis's Penthouse and demanded that Alexis represent her in a variety of lawsuits. She wanted to sue Laura and Scott for stealing her Deception shares and she wanted to sue Angel for hitting her car. Alexis examined the Deception contract and confirmed that the deal had been legitimate. As Alexis was berating Carly for her selfishness, Mike came in. He told Carly that he had heard from Sonny. Carly cried in relief that he was alive and she wondered if he had asked about her. Mike gently told her that Sonny wanted nothing to do with her. Carly finally realized that Sonny had left her and she collapsed in tears in the hallway. Angel returned to the lakehouse and told Sonny about running into Carly. He was surprised when Angel assured him that she hadn't told Carly anything about where he was. Angel said she had figured out that Carly was the woman who had betrayed him and she assumed he wouldn't want anything to do with her. They sat together outside and Sonny was clearly enchanted by his angelic rescuer. Zander and Emily waited for their bus to take off at the station. Sorel's henchman spotted them and called Sorel for instructions. Sorel believed that if something happened to Emily and Zander it would draw Sonny out of hiding. He told his man to take care of things on the bus. Lucy had superhuman energy in preparing for the Nurses Ball. She almost lost it though when she had a premonition that something terrible was going to happen at the ball. She found out that the ball couldn't be held in the Versailles room as it normally was so she moved everything to the roof of the hospital. Mac rallied the troops to help her get everything ready and before she knew it, the roof was decorated. Things were almost settled and perfect when all of the nurses pages started going off and they were all called to the ER. Since they were supposed to perform the first number, Lucy panicked. Lila suggested that the men perform the number instead--with Edward as the lead singer. The performance went brilliantly and everyone laughed as the men danced with purple plumes. Lucy made a poignant speech about everyone pulling together to combat the AIDS disease and she received a standing ovation. The ER was overflowing with victims from a terrible accident. A bus had stalled on the train tracks and the train couldn't stop in time. Alan was called in to help and Skye tried to get his attention to give him the letter from Emily. She already felt guilty because Alan had showed her such compassion and attention. Alan didn't have time for her though as the people kept coming in. Meanwhile, Zander woke up with a bloody head and searched for Emily at the accident site. He finally found her unconscious and buried under some wreckage.

The Nurses Ball was a mix of triumph and tragedy as the nurses and doctors were called away to the ER. A train collided with a bus and left several passengers critically injured--including some denizens of Port Charles. Still, the show did go on as Lucy rallied the troops to perform. Felicia was getting dressed for her act, "Way Down Upon the Swanee River" when Mac had to help out with the situation at the accident site. Left partnerless, Felicia and Lucy teamed up against Luke to persuade him to step in. Luke agreed, but changed the number to "Old Time Rock and Roll." Laura watched their spicy performance with a pained, but tolerant smile. When the number was over, Luke returned his attention toward watching out for Helena whom he was certain was lurking around. Instead of Helena however, Stavros was doing the majority of the lurking. He spied on Laura as she sat at the table with Scott. Nikolas, Gia, and Lucky presented their rendition of "Up on the Roof" much to the audience's delight. Back in the dressing room, the trio congratulated each other and they were jubilant until Helena strolled in. She was disappointed that Nikolas felt it necessary to perform like a commoner and asked to speak to him alone. Gia decided to take Lucky out of the room so that Helena couldn't get to him. Helena barraged Nikolas with her usual complaints and coercions, but he remained strong against her. On her way to congratulate Nikolas and Lucky, Laura saw Helena leave the room. She rushed in and engulfed her son in a hug. Neither of them realized that Stavros was watching them longingly. Alan and Monica rushed around the ER trying to help as many patients as they could. Everything came to a halt when Emily was wheeled in. They were stunned to see her and couldn't understand how she came to be injured until Zander explained. Alan tried to force Zander away from Emily so that she could be examined, but Emily cried out for him. Monica tested Emily's reflexes and was dismayed when Emily couldn't move her feet or feel any sensation in her legs. Alan ordered a series of immediate x-rays to determine the damage. Zander assured Emily that she would be fine and he waited for answers outside of her room. Alan sat with Emily and sang to her to comfort her and calm her down. Feeling guilty for her role in Emily's condition, Skye watched them from the hallway. When Bobbie showed Monica the x-ray results, Monica broke down in tears in her friends arms. Zander had a brush with Sorel's henchman who warned that next time Emily and Zander wouldn't be so lucky. Zander attacked the man, but everyone pulled him off and the man got away. Zander tried to explain to the police what had happened, but no one would listen. Determined to seek revenge, Zander broke into Sonny's office and stole a gun. As Helena walked down the corridor, she spied Stavros and hid from him to watch what he did. She was ready to follow him when a hand reached out and pulled her into a room. Luke wrapped his arms around her from behind and whispered that he had been waiting for them to have a moment alone.

Holding her by the throat, Luke demanded that Helena tell him what game she was playing with his family. Helena naturally claimed innocence and told Luke that she didn't have time for his paranoia. Lucky happened upon them and Helena bade him to tell Luke that she was a friend. Lucky stared her down and told her that she was powerless without her ring to control him. He threatened her life if she approached him or anyone in his family again. Helena was clearly rattled, but she left smiling slyly. Lucky was ecstatic that he had triumphed over Helena, but Luke didn't share his son's confidence. He declared that Lucky was a fool if he believed that he had won the battle with Helena. She had simply walked away for the moment. Luke softened when Lucky thanked him for trying to protect him and Luke asked him to simply be careful.
As Stavros listened on the other side of the door, Laura told Nikolas how proud she was of him for being such a good brother to Lucky. She also told him what a fine man he had become. Nikolas expressed doubts about his own nature as he worried that he was more like Stavros than he knew. Laura assured him that he was nothing like his evil father and that the only thing she saw when she looked at him was goodness. Nikolas surprised her by saying that he was grateful to Luke for killing Stavros and insuring that he had grown up without the poisonous influence.  Stavros seethed as he listened to his "wife" and child discuss him so hatefully. Helena found him and realized that he was one step from announcing his presence to Laura. She reminded him that they had a carefully crafted plan that they needed to stick to. Stavros was hurting because he wanted Nikolas to love him, not despise him. Helena faulted the Spencers for turning Nikolas against the Cassadines. Stavros told his mother to stop trying to turn him against Laura since Luke was the real culprit. He held out the vial of biotoxin and talked about using it against Luke. He decided though that his first order of business needed to be reclaiming his son--and then Laura. He knew that he could make Laura love him again because he would take away everything else until he was all that was left.  Melissa went outside of GH for fresh air and ran into a sobbing Carly. She sat down and listened as Carly cried out her woes. Carly finally realized that she alone was responsible for Sonny leaving her. She had tried to blame everyone and everything under the sun, but ultimately, she knew it was all her fault. Recognizing her pain, Melissa soothed her by saying she had been in a similar place after Roy betrayed her. Desperate for hope, Carly asked how Melissa got past it. Melissa advised giving Sonny time and holding on to her love for him. Carly asked if Melissa still loved Roy and Melissa confessed that she probably always would. Feeling better than she had in days, Carly thanked Melissa for helping her.  At the lakehouse, Sonny awoke from a dream having heard a woman calling his name. Unbeknownst to him, it was at the same moment that Carly was crying out to him. Angel emerged from the lake after a swim and Sonny asked if she had called him. She replied in the negative and sat down beside him on the loveseat. He thought it a dangerous past time to swim in the dark, but Angel felt safe and protected on her island. Drawn into her description of the peace she found there, Sonny offered her his admiration. Angel fell asleep next to him with her head on his shoulder.  Zander took the gun from Sonny's office and was ready to find Sorel when Alexis showed up. She saw the gun and demanded to know what he was thinking. He told her about Emily being in the hospital and was determined to seek revenge. Alexis tried to talk him out of it, but he wouldn't be swayed. After Monica had asked him to find Zander, A.J. burst into Sonny's office and told Zander that Emily needed him. Unwilling to be stopped, Zander left. A.J. turned on Alexis for protecting Zander at everyone else's expense--especially his sister. Later, A.J. left a message for Ned asking him to come home.  Unable to ignore Emily's needs, Zander raced to the hospital. He overheard Alan telling Edward that Emily might be paralyzed and he ran past everyone to get to her. When it was clear that she didn't know how serious her situation was, Zander assured her that she would be fine. When she fell asleep, Zander cried by her side.
