It was Thanksgiving in Port Charles once again. While everyone else in town was sitting down to a sumptuous turkey dinner and the Quartermaines were ordering pizza for dinner, Sonny was staring out the window broodingly. Compared to last year, Sonny knew he had a lot to feel thankful for. Last Thanksgiving he and Mike had spent the holiday together, and this year his family was back together. Still, he couldn't keep at bay the constantly nagging feeling that he was trapped in a life he didn't really belong in. That feeling had only intensified since he'd gotten stranded with Brenda. He felt totally detached and disconnected from his own life. He felt like there was something missing from his life, and he was fighting with everything he had inside of himself not to admit what that something was.

Who was he kidding. He had started to feel this way that night at St. Timothy's when Brenda had revealed herself to him. Before that, he'd been perfectly content in the life he now had. Now he was constantly haunted by the question that was constantly nagging at him. What if he had gone through with marrying Brenda. Would it have lead to the disaster he believed it would the night he'd decided not to go through with their marriage and left her standing at the altar? Or by not showing up had he thrown away his last chance to be truly happy?

He shook that thought off, as quickly as it entered his mind. Things had worked out for the best. Brenda was well on her way back together with Jax, and he and Carly had survived the latest crisis and things we're back to normal in their marriage. Things had worked out for the best. Things had worked out the way they were meant to be.

"Have they really, Sonny?" A voice beckoned to Sonny from behind him. "Is this really the way things are supposed to be?" He added. "Or is that just what you're trying to convince yourself of?"

Sonny turned around and saw his old friend Stone Cates standing there. He was bathed in celestial light, as he looked gravely at him. His profound disappointment in Sonny was written all over his face.

"Stone?" Sonny gasped in amazement. "Is that really you?"

"Long time no see, Sonny." Stone sighed wearily. "The last time we saw each other the situation was the same. You were fighting your feelings for Brenda and you ended up marrying Lily, when you should have grabbed Brenda and run away with her." He added. "Now you're married to Carly. What am I going to do with you?"

"You always thought Brenda and I belonged together." Sonny sighed in remembrance. "You always had faith that in the end we'd end up together." Then he changed the subject. "I take it from the light show." Sonny smirked at him as he went over to the bar to pour himself a drink. "That you made it upstairs." He looked over his shoulder at him. "So what are you here for? What would anyone from up there want to have anything to do with me?"

"You're taking this pretty calmly." Stone pointed out. "It's not every day an angel pops in to pay you a social call."

"That's because you're not here." Sonny took his drink and flopped down on the couch. "I'm dreaming this. So, I may as well just go along for the ride and see where it takes me."

"You've been wondering a lot lately how things might have been if you'd gone through with marrying Brenda, haven't you?" Stone reminded him. "Well, we heard you up there. That's why I'm here. I'm here so you can find out what would have happened that day if you had married Brenda instead of her behind."

"What is that supposed to mean." Sonny sat up in alarm. "It's not like you can turn back time and send me back there and have me do things differently this time around."

"You'd be surprised." Stone smiled benignly at Sonny. "Now I think it's time you went to sleep, Sonny. You're getting very tired." With that, Sonny suddenly found his eyelids growing so heavy he could barely keep them open and within seconds he was fast asleep. "Enjoy your trip, Sonny." Stone removed the glass of whiskey from his limp hand. "And don't screw it up, this time."
