EXT. federal prison - MORNING
JEAN KEARSLEY is escorted by a big burley GUARD, caring a manila envelope, through a series of gates. In the b.g. is several armed guards.
GUARD
So Jean, what are your plans now?
JEAN
I'm just
going home. I hope I can rebuild my business.
GUARD
Well, have
you learned a lesson?
JEAN
I'm not going to do that again. But, I do have some questions I want answered…
And there's
only one person who can answer them for me.
The guard opens the last gate.
GUARD
Don't get
yourself thrown back in here. Next time the judge won't be so lenient.
JEAN
Don't worry
about that, I never plan on coming back here.
Jean takes the envelope of personal objects and gets into the waiting cab.

eXT. KING HOME - MORNING
LEE pulls up in his silver Corvette. AMANDA opens the door to the house.
AMANDA
(over her shoulder)
Mother, I'll
be home in time for dinner. Jamie, Phillip, don't give your Grandmother any
problems, and clean your rooms.
DOTTIE (O.S.)
Amanda, will Lee be joining us for dinner?
AMANDA
I think so.
DOTTIE comes to the door way and waves to Lee, who waves back.
DOTTIE
Amanda, Lee's a really nice man. When are you two going to get
serious?
AMANDA
I've got to go Mother… And Lee and I are just dating.
DOTTIE
I know dear. He would be great for the boys.
Amanda walks down the steps toward Lees car, shaking her head,
she stops and turns back to Dottie.
AMANDA
I know Mother… Make sure the boys clean their rooms.

Lee gets out of the car and opens the door for Amanda. Amanda
stops, watching a cab pulling up to a house just down the street.
AMANDA (CONT'D)
Lee, is that Jean Kearsley?
LEE
Where?
AMANDA
(gesturing)
Over there, getting out of the cab.
LEE
Wasn't she sentenced to five years in prison?
AMANDA
Yeah, it's been what…
LEE
Three years.
Amanda gets in the car. Lee shuts the
door and walks around the rear of the car, stops briefly and catches the back
of a woman going in the door to the house.
CUT TO:
EXT. IFF – georgetown entrance - MORNING – ESTABLISHING shot
The silver Corvette pulls up to the front of the building. Camera CLOSES IN on the IFF sign.

INT. IFF - BULL PEN -CONFERENCE ROOM
Lee, Amanda, FRANCINE, BILLY and a few other agents sit around a table. Francine is handing out some folders.
BILLY
With the
tensions in Cuba, Blue Leader and the President are concerned about a
retaliation strike against the U.S.
FRANCINE
The word on
the wire is that Ruiz has put together a terrorist team.
lee
Ruiz, I thought he was in an Albanian prison.
billy
He was, until about eight months ago.
francine
Ruiz and three other terrorists escaped. This is the most recent picture we have of him.
Francine turns on the slide projector.

This was taken by one of our agent’s days before his incarceration in Tirane.

Scotland Yard, Mossad, the KGB and the United States want Ruiz, for his continued terrorist attacks.
francine
Here is a list of his last known locations, where he is known to frequent and a background on his last four targets.
lee
Ruiz, and I go back quite a few years. Back in Honduras, he was recruiting men for his terrorist activities. I was able to infiltrate his group.
But when the axe came down he was able to escape to Tirane, where he was picked up for drug trafficking. He got away with the terrorism, their government officials wouldn’t extradite him back to face the charges.
amanda
Why would he come back to the United States when he knows were after him?
Billy
That’s what we need to find out.
Francine passes out another sheet of paper to the agents.
FRancine
Here’s a list of all the political events scheduled for the next two weeks.
Billy
Okay troops, let’s get out there and find Ruiz.

EXT. kearsley home – day
Through the window Jean looks down the street toward the King home. She slowly lets the curtains close.

INT. kearsley home – living room – day
The curtain closes, Jean walks over to the sofa and sits down next to a young man in his twenties, PARKER.
Jean
So, do you think you can find these things for me?
Parker
I think so. But why do you need it Aunt Jean?
jean
Well Parker, there’s a little spying I want to do.
parker
Spying? On who?
jean
Lets just say, turn around is fair play…
CUT TO:
EXT. IFF – georgetown entrance - MORNING – ESTABLISHING shot
Both the Corvette and the Jeep Grand Wagoner are parked in front of the building.

Int. iff - film libRARY – aFTERNOON
Amanda is working on the computer pulling up data. Lee walks from the vault toward her carrying two folders.
Lee
Amanda, Ruiz is a conniving, son of a …
Amanda
(cutting Lee off)
Now Lee…
LEE
You don’t know this man. He will do anything to get to his target. And I mean anything…
Lee tosses the folders on the desk next to Amanda.
Amanda
What’s this?
Lee
This is the case file when I was working the San Jose case. Ruiz wanted nothing more than to kill. He didn’t care who, he killed many women and children just to get at one man.
Amanda
Oh Lee, that’s terrible.
lee
That’s not the half of it…
Lee watches Amanda as she thumbs through the pages. Amanda, appalled looks up at Lee. She hands the folder back.
amanda
We need to find Ruiz before he can find his target.

And when we do, your sitting this one out Amanda.
amanda
Lee…
lee
No Amanda, you and the boys are a liability…
amanda
A liability!
lee
(back pedaling)
I didn’t mean it like that…
amanda
How else can you say liability.
lee
(sighing)
I’m sorry, what I mean…
What I was trying to say…
amanda
Stetson, your on thin ice.
Lee takes Amanda’s hands in his and kisses them.
lee
Amanda, I love you and the boys. And if Ruiz ever found out. I can’t put you in that danger. I won’t let him get to me through you or the boys.
amanda
Lee…

Amanda is interrupted by a knock on the door as Francine opens it. Lee suddenly drops Amanda’s hands.
francine
Did I interrupt something?
amanda
No Francine.
Francine looks from Amanda to Lee noticing the tension between them.
francine
Ah… Well, I came to get the San Jose file.
(awkward pause)
I’ll just be going…
Francine walks to the door.
amanda
Forget something?
francine
Hmmm. Oh, yeah, the file.
Lee hands the folder to Francine.
lee
(curt, sharply)
Bye Francine.
Francine looks from Lee to Amanda again then hurries out the door. Lee reaches over and locks the door.
lee
Now, where were we…

amanda
I was just going through the itinerary of the political functions in D.C. this month.
lee
Amanda.
amanda
(continuing babble)
Looks like there’s five Embassy parties, and at least that many…
lee
(interrupting)
Amanda.
amanda
Yeah.
lee
Please, trust me about this. Ruiz is not someone I want to introduce my family to even if my wife is a spy.
CUT TO:
EXT. lebanon embassy – washington d.c. – afternoon
RUIZ, a man in his mid thirties, scans the area across the road from the Embassy. A black Embassy limousine pulls in the gates. Lebanese flags flying from the car. The car stops in front of the doors. A large man, SHEIK HASSAN KHALED, steps out of the car with his entourage and enters the doors. Ruiz looks at his watch, nods and blends back into the surroundings.

EXT. tri county laundry – afternoon
Jean and Parker watch as a painter covers the old Tri County Laundry logo with a new Tri County logo.
parker
Why change it now?
jean
I want a fresh start. Since we can not have any government contracts, I figure a new image was in order.
parker
Well, it is a different image.
jean
Yeah, this truck here, is the one I want on my street. You can set up the equipment inside.
parker
This is a little extreme…
jean
Not entirely.
The painter reveals the new logo on the truck.

EXT. maplewood drive – arlington – evening
CAMERA PULLS back off the logo. Truck is parked just down from Amanda’s home. Lee’s corvette is parked in front.

INT. king home – family room - evening
Amanda, Lee, JAMIE and PHILLIP are watching a movie, TRON, on the TV.
phillip
This is so cool…
jamie
Mom, do you think someday we will be able to go in to a computer like this?
Amanda
You never know… Maybe someday.
Amanda looks up at Lee, who smiles back.
phillip
Lee, you know that Tron guy looks familiar…
jamie
Didn’t we see him on a commercial?
lee
I don’t think I have seen him before. But isn’t that Jeff Bridges?
amanda
Yeah, your right Jamie. I have seen him on a few commercials, he is kind of cute…
lee
Cute?
amanda
Yeah, but not as cute as you.
Amanda leans over kissing Lee on the cheek.

(quietly)
That isn’t what you said the other night…
amanda
(to Lee)
Lee, shush. The boys might hear you.
lee
When does the movie get over?
amanda
About ten minutes. Mother won’t be back till after eleven.
Lee leans closer whispering in Amanda’s ear.
CUT TO:
EXT. maplewood drive - arlington – evening
Jean enters the back of the Tri County truck.
CUT TO:
INT. laundry truck – evening
Jean looks at the monitors. She slips on a pair of head phones. Parker enters the back door. Jean removes one head phone from her ear.
parker
So, what has Mrs. King been up to?
jean
Not too much. The boys are watching a movie. But once they go to bed…

What is it you’re after in the first place?
jean
Secrets. It seems Amanda has a lot of hidden secrets.
PARKER
And what are you going to do with them?
jean
What can’t I do with them.
Jean stops and listens intently, smiling she checks the monitor adjusting the remote camera. Parker moves to easily view the monitors.
parker
Anything good?
jean
Just the tip of the iceberg.

Stock footage of the Georgetown entrance.

INT. iff - william melrose office – day
Amanda, Lee, Francine and two other agents are listening to Billy.

billy
Ruiz, is in this country. He’s been here for at least a week. What have you found out about the possible targets?
francine
There are a lot of political engagements going on. At this time we don’t know who the target is, nor are we any closer to finding it.
lee
What ever he is up to, it’s a good bet, it will be big.
amanda
Sir, it seems to me that Ruiz makes his attacks very public.
billy
Yes, he also takes out as many people as he can with his targets. Knowing this, maybe we can narrow the list.
francine
Lee, do you have any guesses as to who his next target will be?
lee
It could be anyone, he’s not picky on who he kills. But if I had to choose anyone, I would pick the most likely individual to cause major harm to all around.
billy
Well, let’s get back to work. I expect one of you to find the target.
Francine, followed by the two agents, leaves the room. Amanda and Lee get up almost bumping in to each other, Lee knocks over the paperclip holder on the desk. He looks up at Billy who is very stressed and hurries out with Amanda.
CUT TO:
16.
EXT. motel – afternoon
A run down motel, part of the neon sign is burned out. A homeless man roams the street searching the garbage cans. A tough neighborhood with trash, broken bottles and old vehicles parked in the front.
CUT TO:
INT. motel – room 17 – afternoon
Ruiz is sitting at a cheap table making an in incendiary device. Wires, circuit boards, chips and small parts all over the table. Off to the side, relaxing with his feet up is a male in his thirties, MARCO.
marco
So…
ruiz
Not a problem. He will show. Don’t worry about it Marco, the Scarecrow doesn’t have a brain.
marco
And how do you plan to get his attention?
ruiz
Give me credit, the bigger the bang, the faster he will run.
Ruiz adds more wires to the device.
marco
Why the Sheik?
ruiz
Why not? Tensions are high right now in Lebanon.

And you think Scarecrow can stop the explosion in time…
ruiz
Of course not, but once he does arrive…
marco
Ah, I get it. Lead the sheep to the slaughter.
Ruiz adds the display to the wiring mechanism. Testing the counter it counts down from 60 seconds to 45 seconds.
MATCH TO:
INT. lebanese EMBASSY – evening
Camera ZOOMS out from display, to a room full of diplomats. The Sheik is shaking hands with his many guests. All of a sudden the room shakes with a huge explosion. People running for cover, parts of the ceiling caving in. Smoke and fire left in the billowing dust. In the distance sirens can be heard.
CUT TO:
INT. king home – evening
Amanda and Lee are sitting on the sofa, watching a scary TV movie. The phone rings startling Amanda. Reluctantly she answers it.
amanda
Hello…
Yes sir, he’s here.
Amanda hands the phone to Lee.

Lee
Hello?
Billy… yeah…
Okay, Amanda and I will meet you there in fifteen minutes.
Lee hangs up the phone and turns to Amanda, listening carefully.
lee (cont’d)
(upset)
There’s been an explosion.
amanda
Oh my Gosh! Where?
Lee
The Lebanese Embassy. Sheik Hassan Khaled was killed in the blast, as well as seventeen guests and another twenty were injured by the falling debris.
Amanda
Ruiz?
lee
(running hand through hair)
Has to be.
Amanda
But why?
lee
That’s what we are going to find out.
Amanda grabs her purse as Lee turns off the TV.
CUT TO:
19.
INT. lebanese embassy – evening
Billy, Francine, Lee and Amanda sift through the rubble. In the b.g. fire fighter’s and other agents assist victims.
lee
What type of incendiary device was used?
billy
ATF is still working on it, but it looks like C4.
lee
I bet it was Ruiz, sounds like his style.
amanda
But why the Sheik?
billy
Sheik Khaled’s party was a major event in making peace between Lebanon and the U.S. Now, the two are blaming each other for the act of terrorism.
francine
Ruiz picked a very hot target.
lee
Damn, I should have known…
Lee kicks a near by chair, knocking it over. Billy and Francine take it as a sign to leave. Billy turns to Amanda.
billy
Amanda, don’t let him do anything stupid.
amanda
I won’t sir.
Lee runs his hand through his hair looking around the debris. He picks up part of a burned LED display.

lee
I know he was behind this. I should have known he would target the Sheik.
amanda
Oh, come on Lee. This isn’t getting us anywhere.
lee
Let’s get out of here.
Lee reaches for Amanda’s hand dropping the plastic piece to the floor. Camera FOLLOWS the piece down.

EXT. king home – evening
Lee pulls up in front, gets out of the car and opens the door for Amanda. They walk up the sidewalk and inside. Slowly a sedan drives by, looking intently at the house.
intercut – laundry truck interior
From across the road Jean sits in the truck watching and recording everything. Jean follows the car with the camera.

Close up of Ruiz watching Lee carefully.
BACK TO SCENE:
The car speeds up and leaves the area. Jean quickly jots down the license plate number then turns her attention back to the King house.
CUT TO:
21.
INT. king home – kitchen – evening
Lee is pacing back and forth. Amanda is making dinner. She pours a glass of milk. Lee almost runs into her.
amanda
Lee, watch where your going…
lee
(preoccupied)
hunh…
amanda
Here, take this into the family room.
Amanda hands Lee two plates. Still preoccupied, he takes the plates.
Lee
I can’t believe it. Ruiz is in this country for less than two weeks.
amanda
Two weeks and we didn’t even know he was in the country?
Amanda picks up two wine glasses and follows Lee to the table.
lee
He pulled off this assassination really fast, almost too fast…
amanda
What are you saying?
lee
I don’t know… I just don’t think it’s over yet.
Lee puts the plates down on the table.

Do you think he has another target?
lee
It wouldn’t surprise me. He has at least one more.
amanda
I read his profile, He usually has at least two or three other targets at the same time.
Lee runs his hand through his hair, then rubs his temples.
Amanda
Headache?
lee
Yeah…
Amanda puts down the glass and glances toward the clock.
amanda
Looks like we have some time before the boys and mother will be home… Let’s go upstairs and I will give you a massage.
lee
Sounds good to me.
Amanda leads Lee up the stairs.
CUT TO:
23.
EXT. king home – night
Two men, dressed in all black appear from the shadows. They sneak up to the Jeep, one man crawls under the Jeep. The other steps back into the shadows, as head lights from a passing car shine across the front yard. Noticing it’s clear, he steps back out of the shadow and meets the other man who slides out from under the Jeep. Both quickly leave the area.
CUT TO:
INT. iff - bullpen – conference room – day
Lee, Amanda, Francine and a few other agents sit around the table. Francine is handing out updated information on the bombing.
francine
ATF confirms the C-4. Parts from the triggering device have been identified coming from three different states.
Amanda sifts through the sheets of paper. Lee, uncomfortable, looks through a parts list sheet.
lee
I don’t see the display listed.
amanda
The one you found?
lee
Yeah. Francine, are there any more parts being logged in?
francine
I don’t think so, Lee.
lee
We’ll have to go back to the Embassy…

amanda
What’s so important about that part?
lee
It’s just that there is something familiar about it…
francine
(looking at watch)
I don’t know what’s keeping Billy.
Amanda looks at Lee who is carefully going over the papers again.
Lee
(disappointed)
There’s not much in these reports that will help us.
francine
I was hoping Billy would have more…
The conference room door opens and in walks a frazzled Billy.
billy
Well folks, Blue Leader has activated a priority one manhunt for Ruiz.
(sitting down)
Any leads as to where he hiding?
Francine
None yet.
Lee
He’s still around… He’s got another target in mind, I’m sure of it.
billy
Okay then, lets find his next target before he kills that one too.

Amanda and I, are going to go back to the Embassy. I need to find that display.
Billy
Miller, Boyle, check out the parts listings. Harris, Adams and Khole work on Finding the next possible targets.
FADE TO:
EXT. junior high / middle school – day.
Marco, dressed in a public works uniform, walks to the side door, looks down at his papers then back toward the road. He opens the door and enters. Not long after, he exits and walks across the lawn. In the b.g. we see Phillip King and a few friends eating lunch.
CUT TO:
ext./INT. non-descript sedan – day
Ruiz, in the driver’s seat, watches Phillip with binoculars. Marco gets in the passenger side.
Ruiz
So?
Marco
No problem. Not much and the whole building will be demolished.
ruiz
That should get Scarecrow’s attention.
marco
Why the kid?

ruiz
He’s the son of Scarecrow’s partner… or should I say lover.
CUT TO:
EXT. lebanese embassy – day
Amanda and Lee pull into the embassy driveway. Lee gets out, opens the door for Amanda, they walk up to the door. Crime scene tape bars across the door.
CUT TO:
INT. lebanese embassy – day
Amanda and Lee sift through the ashes of the charred room.
Amanda
You would think, after four years, I would learn not to wear my good clothes to go prowling around in.
lee
We could have stopped by the apartment and you could have changed.
amanda
(flirting)
Oh yeah Lee, and we would still be there.
Lee searches through the ashes, picking up melted pieces of plastic and dropping it back to the floor.
lee
Well, we are still newlyweds…
amanda
We are, aren’t we…

Amanda moves a burned chair.
amanda (cont’d)
Boy, this place looks worse today.
lee
Yeah, not much left. Do you remember where I found the display?
amanda
Over there.
(pointing)
The flash point must have been very hot. Look at the wall.
lee
Looks like the C4 must have been attached to the underside of a table.
Lee moves a charred piece of debris, stirring up ashes.
lee (cont’d)
It should be here somewhere.
amanda
Lee, what if we can’t find it?
lee
I don’t know… I just know there was something about it…
Lee reaches down picks up another piece of burned debris… He tosses it back to the floor. Amanda is still looking.
lee
I don’t think we will find it…
But I think I know what it reminds me of.
Amanda spotting something buried in the debris, picks it up.

Lee, is this it?
She hands the piece to Lee.
lee
Yes, that’s it.
(turning it over in his hand)
it’s this here…
(pointing)
It’s no ordinary display. This is one of Ruiz’s special units.
amanda
We should get it back to the Agency. Let Forensics do some testing.
lee
(reaching for Amanda’s hand)
Come on, there’s someone I need to see…

EXT. electronics store – afternoon – establishing shot
The store is in a well established neighborhood. Mom and Pop stores line the street with trees, outside vendors selling goods.
CUT TO:
INT. electronics store – afternoon
Marco is browsing the components picking out pieces here and there. Placing the items into a basket. He pulls off a few button batteries and tosses them into the basket. Wires and computer components are added.
The bell on the door rings as Lee and Amanda enter. Marco, seeing them, moves to another aisle partially hidden. Lee and

Amanda walk up to the counter. A young TEEN is behind the counter.
lee
Hi, is Logan in today?
Teen
No man, he’s off today. Is there anything I can do to help you?
Lee
I’m looking for a specific type of display.
(pulling out a photo of display)
It’s a special order item.
teen
Don’t remember seeing anything like that in here… Logan is the only one who does the special orders.
lee
Thanks anyway, we’ll try to find Logan at home.
Marco, still near the back, watches Lee and Amanda leave. He picks up a couple more parts, checks the door to make sure they’re gone then heads for the check out.
teen
So, did ya find everything you were lookin’ for?
marco
For now.
CUT TO:

INT. iff. – q-bureau – afternoon
Lee is searching all over his desk. Amanda is writing notes, she looks up at a flustered Lee.
amanda
(eyebrows arched)
Lee, what are you looking for?
lee
My address books.
amanda
Your little black books?
lee
Um… yeah, they weren’t all women’s names…
amanda
I thought you went through those and put the necessary addresses in your day planner.
lee
I checked the planner, Logan’s address isn’t in there. So, it must still be in one of those books.
amanda
I haven’t seen them for a while. Did you leave them at the apartment?
lee
I don’t think so. I thought I left them here…
amanda
(teasing)
Un hunh, Scarecrow, any special reason for leaving them here?

Lee stops looking, walking over to Amanda, he sits on the corner of her desk.
lee
There’s only one number I will ever need… and I have that one memorized.
Lee leans over and kisses Amanda gently on the lips.
amanda
Good save Lee. Did you look in the vault?
lee
Why would I… No… Happen to know how they would get in there?
amanda
I plead the fifth…
lee
You do, do you…
Lee enters the vault, looking.
Lee (cont’d)(O.S.)
You know Amanda, I can never find anything after you straighten things up.
amanda
I don’t know how you can find things in that mess anyway.
lee (O.S.)
It’s an organized mess. Ah, here they are.
Lee comes out of the vault holding four black books. Camera ZOOMS in on the books.

EXT. junior high/middle school – night
Camera PULLS BACK off the chest of Marco, who is dressed in all black. He crosses the lawn to the side door, opening it, he disappears into the building.
CUT TO:
INT. king home – kitchen - morning
Amanda is fixing the boys breakfast. Jamie is looking through a comic book at the bar. Phillip is playing with his skateboard.
amanda
Phillip, put the skateboard down and come eat your breakfast.
phillip
Okay Mom. Can I go over to Jared’s when I’m done?
amanda
Today’s a school day. Maybe after school.
Jamie
But Mom, there’s no school today.
Amanda places a plate of food in front of Phillip.
amanda
No school, why?
jamie
It’s that UE thingy for teachers. The schools closed.
Phillip
(taking a bite of food)
Yeah, they’re having some classes at some convention center… I think. So, can I?

Amanda
Let me think about it. Jamie, do you want toast?
Jamie
Yeah.
The door bell rings. Amanda puts the toast on Jamie’s plate.
amanda
Phillip, that’s probably Lee. Can you let him in?
Phillip
(leaving table)
Sure, Mom.
A moment later Lee follows Phillip into the kitchen.
Lee
Good morning, Jamie.
Jamie
Hi.
amanda
(smiling)
Good morning, Lee. Do you want some breakfast?
Lee
Some coffee would be nice.
amanda
Coming up.
Phillip
(sitting back down)
So, can I Mom?

I guess. But you need to be home by noon.
Phillip
(eating his food)
Cool.
Amanda pours a cup of coffee for Lee.
Lee
The boys don’t have school today?
Jamie and Phillip look at Lee puzzled.
Amanda
No, it’s UEA. There is no school today.
Lee
UEA? What is that?
Amanda
United Education Association, a teachers conference where they catch up on the new education techniques out there.
lee
(nodding)
A three day weekend, that’s got to be great.
Phillip shoves his last bite in his mouth and grabs his skateboard.
Phillip
See ya later.
Amanda
Remember to be back by noon.

(impatient)
Hurry up Jamie.
Jamie
Just a second…
Jamie grabs his milk finishing it off. He follows Phillip out the back door.
Amanda
I can’t believe I forgot all about UEA.
Lee
With everything going on at work, I’d be surprised if you remembered anything.
Lee takes Amanda in his arms. He kisses her on the check, Amanda returns the kiss on this lips.
Lee
This is more like it.
Amanda

Jean is watching tapes taken the night before of the King home. Fast forwarding the tape she is startled by the explosion a few blocks away. She rushes to the window.

EXT. junior high/middle school – morning
Emergency vehicles abound, lights flashing. Smoke billowing from the missing portion of wall of the building. Kids and parents behind the police line watching the firefighters. Lee and Amanda stand among the crowd. In the b.g. Jean Kearsley watches them. Phillip and Jamie come running over to Amanda and Lee.

Mom, what happened?

Did you hear that knarly explosion?

Phillip! The police haven’t said what happened. Good thing you boys were off today.

Lee leaves Amanda and the boys. Walking over to a DETECTIVE next to an emergency vehicle. He show’s him his government I.D.

So, what’s the Agency’s interest in this?
lee
Just checking for connections to a recent bombing. Do you have any idea as to what caused the explosion?

What’s in this area of the school?

Well, the boiler room and other building facilities. We are pretty lucky school wasn’t in process. We could have had a lot of hurt kids.

Lee looks over at Amanda with her arms around the boys. He runs his hand through his hair, then walks over to them.
Lee
Amanda, why don’t you take the boys home. I’m going into the office. I’ll call you later.

Amanda watches as Lee leaves. From the corner of her eye she catches a glimpse of a woman looking like Jean. Parents walk by blocking her view. Amanda, looking around, she can not locate the person she just saw.

Ruiz and Marco sit at the sixties style kitchen table. They turn on the old TV to the news. Intently listening to hear about the explosion.

You set the timer didn’t you?

Yes, for just after the morning bell. That way there would be a lot of kids in there when it exploded.
ruiz
Good. That will get Scarecrow’s attention.

Shouldn’t it be on yet?
Ruiz, playing with a part, unconsciously turning it over and over in his hands.

This just in… an explosion shook the quite neighborhood at a local Arlington Junior High School. Live from the site of the explosion is Andrus Weber.

Parked on the street is Lee’s Corvette and Amanda’s Jeep. Camera PANS UP and ZOOMS in on Q-Bureau windows.

Amanda enters the door, Lee slams down the phone. He runs his hand through his hair. He gets up and paces back and forth.

Damn it Amanda, I have to get this guy.

Lee, calm down. You’re not helping the situation.

He knew, He knew where the boys went to school. He tried to kill the boys.

I know… but he didn’t. If his last target was the school…
LEE
It’s me he’s after, Amanda. We need to get you, your mother and the boys out of here and into a safe house.

Lee walks over to Amanda.

Slowly the sedan drives by the building, double checking the two vehicles parked in front. Not far behind is the Tri County Laundry truck.

Amanda stops at her car noticing a few women gathered down the street. From with in the group she catches a glimpse of Jean, who also notices Amanda and disappears behind someone. One of Amanda’s neighbors waves and Amanda waves back as she gets into her car. The women begin gossiping again.

Ruiz and Marco pull up in a beat up old dodge. Marco takes a paper sack from the back and carries it in to the Motel. Ruiz spots a Laundry truck parked down the street.

Marco places the bag on the table. Ruiz walks over to the window looking out at the street below.

What’s out there?

That truck, I think it is following us.

The Laundry truck pulls away from the curb, the sign on the side reads “Scottsdale Laundry Services.”

Lee’s silver Corvette is parked in the driveway. Lights are on upstairs.

Amanda is sitting on the bed, Lee walks out of the bathroom in his robe.

You know Lee, I have noticed the lights on at Jean Kearsley’s home the past few nights.
Lee
Wasn’t her nephew living there while she is in prison?
amanda
Yeah, but he moved out last week.
lee
Did you find out anything more on when Jean will be released?
Amanda
When I talked to Jenkins, he said he hadn’t received a return call from the prison yet. But I know I know I seen her today talking to the neighbors.
Lee sits down on the bed next to Amanda.

Lee grabs his levis and a shirt and goes into the bathroom.

Jean jumps out of the back of the truck and hurries into the house. A moment later she comes back out and gets in the drivers side of the truck. The silver Corvette pulls out of the driveway, Jean follows at a distance.

Lee is driving, Amanda looks over at a very frustrated Lee.

Lee, what did Billy say?

We received a tip thirty minutes ago about Ruiz.
amanda
His next target?

His hide out.

I don’t know… it’s not like Ruiz to let his whereabouts be known.

Ruiz carefully places a small piece of C-4 on the side of the IFF sign. Looking around he sets the timer for 02:15 am. He attaches a photograph of Lee and Amanda to the C-4.

Billy and Francine are working on the computer as Lee and Amanda come through the doors.

Scarecrow, Amanda, not much to go on.
Lee

We don’t know where the information came from but it seems to be legit. A strike team has is being sent out.

Lee runs his hand through his hair.

Lee and Amanda exit the door. Amanda stops noticing something moving in the breeze.

Lee notices the picture attached over the bomb. He removes the picture, hands it to Amanda, there are only 60 seconds left.

Lee grabs Amanda’s hand and they run toward the street. The sign explodes into shattered wood. They hit the ground from the impact.

They both get up. A trickle of blood runs down the side of Lee’s face. Amanda is holding on to the picture.

Billy, Francine and a few other agents come pouring out of the Georgetown entrance.

Jean Kearsley watches a monitor as the area around the shattered sign fills with agents. She jots down some notes on a legal pad near by.

INT. iff – q-bureau – night
Amanda carefully washes the small cut on Lee’s forehead. Billy paces back and forth.

Damn it Scarecrow! Ruiz is one step ahead of us.
lee
That was only a warning. Ruiz is just taunting me.
francine
Forensics found parts from the same type of timer that was used in the bomb from the Embassy.
Lee keeps fidgeting while Amanda is trying to put a band-aid on his forehead.
amanda
Lee, hold still. Let me put this band-aid on. Your as bad as the boys.

I want agents on this; twenty-four, seven till we catch Ruiz. Scarecrow, I want you and Amanda to go over all the possible locations Ruiz could be hiding.
Lee runs his hand over the band-aid, wincing.

EXT. D.C. street – night – later
The silver Corvette pulls into the warehouse district. The car stops just down from an abandoned building.

Amanda and Lee sit watching the exterior of the building. Amanda looks over a piece of paper.

Are you sure this is the address?
amanda
Five fifteen D street. Yes, this is it. Lee it doesn’t look like anyone is here.
lee
You wait in the car, I’ll go check it out.

I will. If I’m not back in ten minutes, you call Billy for back up.

Lee gets out, then leans back in the car.

Lee shuts the door and carefully slinks off toward the building.

Lee carefully shuts the door entering the building gun drawn. The building is almost entirely empty. Just a few boxes and trash scattered around the building. He moves toward the offices near the back door of the building.

Amanda spots the laundry truck parked off to the side. She gets out of the car and walks toward it. Suddenly there is an explosion in the warehouse.
AMANDA
Lee!

EXT. abandoned warehouse – later that night
Billy, Francine, and a few other agents are in front. In the b.g. firefighters are spraying water on the blaze. Amanda, upset looks on.
Billy
Francine, take Amanda home.
francine
Come on Amanda, I’ll give you a ride home.
amanda
(voice cracking)
No sir, I can’t leave. Not with Lee missing.
billy
Amanda, when we find him, we will let you know.
francine
Amanda…
A male agent hurries toward Billy.
AGENT
Billy, the firefighters have found something.
A commotion forms and other emergency personnel hurry to where there are a group of firefighters gathering around something.
Amanda
It’s Lee! They have found Lee.

We don’t know if it is him yet. Francine, check with the fire Chief. Amanda, if it is Lee…, he…

Marco, is walking down the street, caring a grocery bag, he looks around, then enters the building.

Marco opens the door, places the bag on the table and opens the refrigerator pulling out a beer. He sits down at the table. Ruiz walks in from the other room.

So, did he come?

Yes. The small explosion did the trick.
ruiz

Amanda is busy making soup, preoccupied, Amanda clumsily knocks over a few items. She begins cleaning it up as tears flow down her face.

Lee walks up behind Amanda, bruised but alive. Amanda turns to Lee.

Don’t cry, Honey, I’m okay, I’m right here.

Lee, I was so scared…

Marco parked across the street from the King home, sits carefully watching the house. He slowly pulls away from the curb driving past the Laundry truck.

Jean is listening to Lee and Amanda, she turns to Parker.

Witnessing that explosion last night could get us killed.
parker
Who was that guy last night anyway?
jean
I don’t know… but I think we have stumbled into something very big and dangerous.

So, now what do we do with the tapes?
Jean puts last nights tape in the player pressing play.
jean
I think it’s time to let the cat out of the bag.

And how do you expect to do that?

A few images float across the screen as the camera PUSHES in on the TV screen.

The camera PULLS BACK off the TV screen, the video continues to play to the music of Secret Agent Man. The video is stopped with a picture of the sedan and Ruiz in front of Amanda’s home.

No idea Billy. It just showed up at Amanda’s front door.
francine
Looks like you have been under surveillance, Amanda.
lee
No Agency would put music to their surveillance tapes.
billy
Who would want to follow you two?
Amanda looks over at Lee.

I think I might have an idea on who, sir.

Ruiz pulls a sizable wad of C4 out of his black bag. He molds it in to the shape of a vase. Marco enters the front door.

So, he’s no closer to finding us, as he is to locating the next target.

My informant, said the Agency is concentrating on Scarecrow and Mrs. King. They have abandoned all other possible targets.
ruiz
As expected.
Ruiz fixes a few wires into the C4 and smoothes them into surface.

And this next target?
ruiz
Will make all the others look like firecrackers.

I was able to get the floor plans, as you requested.
ruiz
Good. It shouldn’t be long and the first half of the money should be in the bank. Once that’s verified, we can continue the plan.

Amanda rings the doorbell, looking at Lee nervously. Parker opens the door.

She’s been expecting you.

Amanda and Lee are seated as Jean enters the room followed by Parker.

Amanda, it’s been so long since we have talked.

Looks like that’s where Jean has been spying on us, from her own laundry truck.

If he does, she’s as good as dead.
Lee looks back toward the Kearsley home, Amanda follows his lead.

Ruiz is putting the final touches on the vase. Marco enters from the hall.

Looks just like the other one.

Good. Everything is going according to plan, just one more stop…
Ruiz carefully puts the vase in a box, closes it and puts it in a bag.

Lee and Amanda are driving down a busy street. The car phone rings. Lee picks it up.

I have found the license plate number for that vehicle.
lee

A car pulls up and parks along the street. Marco gets out and walks into a building. He comes back out with a brown paper package and gets back in to the car. Jean, parked down the street, watches from a non descript car.

ext. street – afternoon
Jean carefully follows behind Ruiz and Marco. The car turns down an alley. Jean slows watching the car stop then pulls away. Ruiz gets out of the car continuing to watch the car leave.

Find her Marco. Bring her to me.

The Corvette pulls up in front. Lee gets out, scans the street while opening the car door for Amanda. They hold hands as they approach the building.

INT. motel/door to room 17 – day
Lee and Amanda walk toward room 17’s door. Lee, drawing his gun, motions to Amanda to stay back as he approaches the door. Amanda steps to the side against the wall also gun drawn.

On three, go to the right.
Amanda nods, Lee counts down motioning with his fingers.

The room is unoccupied, supplies, maps and other items still on the table. Suddenly the door smashes in. Lee and Amanda enter the room.

Looks like they will be back.
lee
Yeah, it’s not like Ruiz to leave things behind.

Amanda and Lee begin to search the room. Amanda moves papers off the unmarked blueprints.

These floor plans look awfully familiar.

Let me take a look. They do look familiar. This one.. is the building security plans.

You know, it looks like the Needleham Hotel. But why would Ruiz have an interest in there?

I don’t know? Any special functions scheduled?
Amanda
They are always having some party or another. I’ll check with Francine.
Lee picks up some left over wires.
Lee
Ruiz is up to something, he’s made another bomb.
Amanda looks from the wires up to Lee who runs his hand through his hair, still looking over the blueprints.

Establishing shot of a elegant hotel.

A small storage room with large boxes stacked around. Marco brings in a disheveled Jean, hands tied behind her back.

(pointing to a box)

Ruiz pulls out a gun, checking the chamber.
ruiz
Who are you with? Why have you been following us?
jean
I wasn’t following you.
ruiz

Dumb blonde. Ruiz won’t fall for that.
Ruiz, tired of Marco screws on a silencer. Pointing the gun at Jean’s head.

Walking out of the room, Ruiz stuff’s the gun into his bag.

There are a few people wandering in the lobby. Ruiz walks in the door carefully looking around noting security cameras. He enters the door into a large room. The room is set up for a speech, vases decorate the tables. Ruiz opens the bag pulls out the C4 vase and switches it with one on the head table. He returns the other vase to his bag. And turns to leave, the door opens, Ruiz ditches the bag and hides in the near shadows. Lee and Amanda enter the room.
lee
Do you see anything?
Amanda
No, do you think we are too late?

The speech doesn’t start till later. He has to be around somewhere.
Lee steps closer to where Ruiz is hidden. Amanda walks closer to the head table. Suddenly Ruiz jumps out at Lee tackling him. Amanda moves out of the way as the scuffle continues. Ruiz pinning Lee down choking him.

Your going to pay Scarecrow!
Amanda picks up the vase off the head table. She slams the vase over the head of Ruiz knocking him out and shattering the bomb. Wires and electrical parts fall to the floor. Lee looks at an amazed Amanda.

Well, I’ll be…
A frazzled Jean enters with two security officer just in time to see Amanda take care of him. Lee and Amanda both catch sight of Jean and the officers who rush to hand cuff Ruiz.

Both the Corvette and the Jeep Waggoner are parked in front of the building. Lights are on in the windows the camera ZOOMS in on the window.

Lee and Amanda sit on the couch, Lee picks up the remote. Amanda sips a cup of tea.
