  Season Five

Okay, for everyone who doesn't have any idea how to decode my ramblings...

Summary: The episode in short. Duh.
Best Moment: Please, please tell me you have the brain capacity for this.
Best Quote: Again with the "duh!"
Don't I Know You? Guest stars.
References: Any political, historical, pop culture, or other reference a character makes.
The Inside Scoop: Quote(s) from Marta Kauffman, David Crane, and/or anyone else involved with the show.
Oops!: This is where I list the bloopers, if there are any.
Music: Phoebe's songs, or songs that are played/sung during the course of the episode.
Notes: Anything else that caught my eye.

Episode 5.1
Summary: Though he and Emily go through with the wedding, Ross is still in some hot water with his new wife. Monica and Chandler decide, after some deliberation, to continue sleeping together.
Read full summary

Best Moment: Moments, actually. Every scene with Monica and Chandler searching for a place where they won't be interrupted.

Best Quote:
Rachel: You're not an idiot, Ross, you're a man very much in love.
Ross: Same difference.

Don't I Know You?: Christina Pickles and Elliot Gould reprise their roles as Jack and Judy Geller. Helen Baxendale continues her guest-starring role as Emily. Tom Conti and Jennifer Saunders continue their roles as Emily's parents, whom we were introduced to in the season four finale.

My Giant
"We did! And we already paid for it! It's My Giant!" -Monica
"The giant's, like, five years younger than me..." -Joey

My Giant is a movie about a Hollywood agent (Billy Crystal) who "discovers" a 7 1/2 foot tall man while on business in Romania and schemes to get him into the movies in America. (IMDb Listing)

Notes: Not to much to say on this one, really. Except one thing: Phoebe seems to have a liking for the name Filange; in this episode she tells Mrs. Waltham that she is Ross's physician, Dr. Filange, and in this season's finale, she calls herself Regina Filange after she is kicked out of the Caesar's Palace Casino. Later, in season seven's "TOW Rachel's Big Kiss", she makes up a sororiety sister named Regina Filange, and in "TOW the Videotape" (season 8), she uses Regina Filange as her alias when she and Joey (aka "Ken Adams")demonstrate how Greg and Jenny probably gave Monica and Chandler false names. Interesting to note: on the DVD subtitles, the spelling of Filange changes from episode to episode. In this episode, it is spelled "Filange", but in "The One In Vegas", it is spelled. "Falange". Okay, I desperately need a life.

Episode 5.2: The One With All The Kissing
Summary: Monica and Chandler are nearly caught, but they cover it up, however shabbily. Rachel tries her darnedest to get over Ross. Phoebe feels left out as the gang reminisces about London.

Best Moment Moments: The opening scene with Chandler and Monica in the tub, and the end scene when Phoebe's water breaks. And also Rachel's reaction to Monica's sock lie: "You didn't drop any socks!"

Best Quotes:
Rachel: Hold on a sec, there, Mr. Kissy!

Chandler: I was just trying to bring a little culture to the group.
Phoebe: That's fine, just don't bring it in my mouth.

Rachel: Honey, high-five, the babies are coming!
Phoebe: Wait, wait, remember when my water broke?

Monica: Do you know anything about women?
Chandler: No.
Monica: It's all right.

Don't I Know You?: James Michael Taylor returns as Gunther. Zen Gesner (Dave) has starred in All My Children as Braden Lavery and The Adventures of Sinbad as Sinbad.

Notes: One of my favorite season five episodes. Not much else to say.

Episode 5.3: The One Hundreth
Summary: The gang rushes to the hospital as Phoebe goes into labor. At the same time, Joey is hospitalized with kidney stones. Rachel sets an unwilling Monica up with a cute male nurse, causing problems and misunderstandings between Monica and Chandler. After a series of mishaps, Phoebe gives birth to the triplets, one of which turns out to be a girl instead of a boy.

Best Moment: Phoebe breaking down and crying at the end. Absolutely heartbreaking.

Best Quotes:
Joey (with a video camera): Okay, uh Pheebs, quick. Look! This is for the babies to look at someday, so is-is there anything you want to say? Y'know, before it all starts?
Phoebe: Oh, okay, umm, hi kids! Um, it's me, Aunt Phoebe. I can't wait to see you. Please don't hurt me!

Chandler: So uh, now that little Chandler turned out to be a girl, what are they gonna name her?
Phoebe: They're gonna call her Chandler.
Chandler: That's kind of a masculine name, don't you think?
Phoebe: Works on you.

Chandler: Y'know, I don't know if you've ever looked up the term 'goofing around' in the dictionary. Well, I have, and the technical definition is, two friends who care a lot about each other and have amazing sex and just wanna spend more time together. But if you have this new-fangled dictionary that gets you made at me, then we have to, y'know, get you my original dictionary. I am so bad at this.

Phoebe: So, here you are. It seems like yesterday I was talking to you in that little petri dish. Everyone said labor was the hardest thing I'd ever have to do, but they were wrong; this is. Oh, I had the most fun with you guys! I wish I could take you home and see you every day. Okay, I'll settle for being your favorite aunt. I know Alice's sister has a pool, but you lived in me. Okay, so we're cool. Yeah, we're gonna be great. Little high fives! Ahh! Ahh! Ahh! ... Well, if you're gonna cry.

Don't I Know You?:Giovanni Ribisi and Debra Jo Rupp reprise their roles as Frank and Alice. (For DJR, it's for the last time.) Sam Anderson (Dr. Harad) was in Forrest Gump and has appeared on ER, Angel, Murder, She Wrote, and Melrose Place, among other things. Patrick Fabian (Nurse Dan) has a recurring role on Joan of Arcadia, and has also appeared on Will & Grace, 24, and CSI. Iqbal Theba (Joey's doctor) has appeared on ER, Joan of Arcadia, and JAG. T.J. Thyne (Dr. Oberman) has appeared on Walker, Texas Ranger, Charmed, CSI: New York, and The O.C..

Playboy...must I explain Playboy? Playboy is the [in]famous magazine featuring photos of nude women.

The Inside Scoop: According to Marta Kauffman, the writers on Friends have to be careful...because "life tends to imitate art". Kauffman was pregnant during the filming of this episode, which featured Phoebe having babies and Joey having kidney stones. Ten days after giving birth, Kauffman was hospitalized with kidney stones.

Apparently, this is Lisa Kudrow's favorite episode.

Notes: This is one of the first Friends episodes I ever saw, so yay! Good episode.

Episode 5.4: The One Where Phoebe Hates PBS
Summary: When Joey gets a gig taking pledges at a PBS telethon, it stirs up Phoebe's old feelings of animosity toward the network. This leads to an argument between Phoebe and Joey about whether or not truly selfless good deeds exist. Monica covers up her affiar with Chandler by tellnig Rachel that she's seeing a guy from work. Rachel lets it slip in front of Chandler that Monica's "new secret boyfriend" is "the best sex" Monica's ever had, causing Chandler's ego to inflate.

Best Moment: Chandler's happy dance. And also the chick and the duck watching Emeril.

Best Quotes:
Ross: I don't care if I said some other girl's name, you prissy old twit!
Joey: Ross! Way to suck up to the family.

Phoebe: Okay, 'cause right after my mom killed herself, I was just in this really bad place, y'know personally. So, I just thought that it'd make me feel better if I wrote to Sesame Street, 'cause they were so nice when I was a little kid! No one ever wrote back.
Chandler: Well y'know a lot of those Muppets don't have thumbs.
Phoebe: All I got was a lousy key chain! And by that time I was living in a box. I didn't have keys!

Ross: She wants me to move to London.
Monica: But you live here! (pause) You know that.

Phoebe: I cannot believe I can't find a selfless good deed! Y'know that old guy that lives next to me? Well, I snuck over there and-and raked up all the leaves on his front stoop. But he caught me and force-fed me cider and cookies. Then I felt wonderful. That old jackass!

Monica: Uh, listen, I need that broiling pan that Joey borrowed the other day.
Chandler: Oh that was yours? Uh, yeah, we used it when the duck was throwing up caterpillars.
Monica: Williams-Sonoma, fall catalog, Page 27.
Chandler: Expect it in 4-6 weeks.

Don't I Know You?: Gary Collins guest starts as himself. He has appeared on Hawaii Five-O, Charlie's Angels (the TV series), JAG, Saved By the Bell: The New Class, The Love Boat, Dharma and Greg, The Sixth Sense (the TV series) and Dead Like Me. He has been nominated for several Emmy awards and won a 1983 Emmy for Best Host of a Talk Show.

Bloopers: "All I got was a lousy key chain! And by that time I was living in a box. I didn't have keys!" If Phoebe was really living in a box, how did she get the key chain in the first place? It's not like a box would have a mailbox. Or an address.

Notes: Not much to say about this one.
