INTRODUCTION:
Q:
Who made this?
A: I, Justin Channell, started this FAQ on July
4th.
Q:
May I post this on my site or club?
A: I'd appreciate if you did not. You may link to
the FAQ however.
Q:
Are you involved with the show in anyway?
A: Nope, just a really big fan.
ABOUT
THE SHOW:
Q:
Who are Sifl and Olly?
A: The sockpuppet alter egos of Liam Lynch and
Matt Crocco. The two used to make comedy tapes
for friends and family, and those eventually
became a tape that Liam sent Matt of two
sockpuppets acting out the tapes. These were the
first Sifl and Olly episodes. Liam later sent the
tapes to MTV-UK, where they became short buffer
clips inbetween videos known as
"idents."
Q:
When did Sifl and Olly start airing?
A: The early MTV-UK "idents" started
airing around late 1996 and early 1997, and the
first season on MTV started airing July 1998 at
the 12:30am timeslot. The second season started
in 1999 and was aired at 8pm Weekdays. The first
half of the seasons included music videos with
cameos by Sifl, Olly, and Chester, but when they
reran, the videos were removed.
Q:
When does Sifl and Olly air?
A: It doesn't anymore. It was cancelled by MTV
after the end of the second season. A third
season was supposed to air online, but MTV never
got around to it, so the episodes will soon be on
VHS/DVD from Liam and Matt, and if that works
well, there will be Season 1 and 2 on VHS/DVD,
and possibly new episodes. Until then, you can
try the "Where to Get Videos" section
of this site.
Q:
Who does the voice of (insert character's name)?
A: Liam does the voice of Olly, and Matt does
Sifl, Precious Roy, and Chester. Other than that,
you'll have to try to figure out on your own.
Q:
Where can I get Sifl and Olly songs?
A: You can try Napster, WinMX, Morpheus or one of
those file sharing things, or go to http://www.sifl-n-olly.com where you can buy some
original tunes by Liam and Matt, and even
"Camp Sunny Side Up", the basis for
some of the S&O songs!
Q:
What the hell is Chester supposed to be?
A: Chester is made out of a plastic budha mold
turned inside out. So technically, if you poured
plaster in Chester's mouth, you'd have a nice
little budha.
Q:
Why use socks?
A: Originally, it was going to be claymation, but
Liam didn't have the money to do that, so he just
used socks.
Q:
Why don't they just move Sifl and Olly to Comedy
Central or Fox if MTV wont play it?
A: MTV and Viacom own the rights. Nice thought
though :).
ABOUT
THE SOCKHEADS
Q:
What is a sockhead?
A: A sockhead is a fan of Sifl and Olly. The name
comes from the Yahoo! Group(formerly eGroups,
which was formerly OneList) that was started by
Marybeth McAndrews in 1998 and today stands at
over 900 members, including Liam "Olly"
Lynch. Sockhead is a play on the name for Dave
Mathews Band fans, who call themselves
"Daveheads."
Q:
How can I join the Sockheads?
A: Look at the links section of this site.
Q:
Is there a sockhead convention?
A: Yes. This August in Nashville, TN. Guests of
honor will be Liam Lynch, Matt Crocco, and Liam's
parents. I wont be there, sadly:(.
Q:
Is there really a Sifl and Olly tribute album?
A: Yep. It was suggested by Justin Channell(this
is in the third person BTW) and Dr. Funk took up
the idea of starting the project on his 4-track.
The tape was later converted a CD by Allison
Hinderliter, and sold for the price of a CD-R and
printing. Sadly, after 100 copies were made, the
production of the CD has stopped. There is going
to be an "internet only" tribute album
coming soon.
Q:
Did you know there's a character named Sockhead
in the movie "Freaked!"?
A: Yeah.
ABOUT
LIAM AND MATT
Q:
What are Liam and Matt's birthdates?
A: Liam Lynch was born September 5, 1970 and Matt
Crocco was born March 15, 1971.
Q:
When did they meet?
A: Liam and Matt met at the ages of 10 and 9 as
neighbors, and began to really hang out with each
other after the 4th grade. The two grew up in
Kent, Ohio during the 1980's, and the young duo
would write songs and perform skits to amuse each
other. Those songs and skits of past very much
mirror the present antics of Sifl and Olly.
Q:
Where can I get some of Liam and Matt's early
songs and sketches?
A: http://www.sifl-n-olly.com sells original music by
Liam and Matt. Camp Sunny Side Up contain a lot
of material that later became Sifl and Olly, and
the Welcome to Earth video has some videos from
CSSU. You can also buy some new original tunes
from the duo.
Q:
Did Liam really study guitar with Paul McCartney?
A: Yes, Liam was selected to enroll in the
Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts. While he
was in Liverpool, he studied guitar with Paul
McCartney, had studio lessons from George Martin,
and lectures from Brian Eno.
Q:
Is this FAQ finished?
A: This FAQ is FAR from finished.
