AUTHOR'S NOTES: After four stories in a row full of angst and high drama, I decided it was time to write something light and romantic. Thanks go to Bridget for beta reading and for trying to keep me sane, an impossibility these days. Also, thanks to Chuck for suggesting the story, even though he refused to write it for me.

CHAPTER ONE: Early In The Morning

It was an early fall morning. Mike Danko woke up shortly before the sun came up and glanced over at his wife, still sleeping on her side of the bed. He propped himself up one elbow to watch her. He couldn't believe that they actually had three days off together. It was rare for them to get one day off together. Getting three was almost some kind of a miracle.

Jill was soundly sleeping with the blanket clutched under her arms. She smiled in her sleep when she felt a gentle kiss on her shoulder. She sleepily rolled over to find him smiling at her, just out of her immediate reach. He pulled her close and kissed her, his mouth gently exploring.

"Good morning," she murmured when they came up for air. "What time is it?"

"Who cares?," he whispered, kissing her again, letting his hands roam under her nightgown.

Jill was giving herself over to exquisite sensation when the phone broke through, ruining the moment.

"Ignore it," Mike groaned, continuing to kiss and caress her.

"Too late," Jill replied, pulling free and picking up the phone as Mike sat up and groaned in frustration. "Hello? Yes, sir. He's right here. It's Lt. Ryker," she said, holding the receiver out to him.

"Hello?" Mike practically barked, running his hand through his hair as Jill got up and pulled her robe on.

"Danko, were you in such a hurry to start your weekend that you forgot to do a few things? I've got several arrest reports on my desk...all of them devoid of your signature. Would you like to come down and remedy that situation?" Ryker demanded over the phone.

"I'll be there in an hour," Mike agreed unhappily.

"Make it half an hour, Danko," Ryker told him.

"Yes, sir. Thirty minutes," Mike sighed, hanging up the phone and looking at Jill. "Would you care to take a ride? I have to sign some reports. I'll take you out to breakfast after I'm done."

"I'd love to take a ride. You owe me breakfast after the interruption," she smiled, getting a pair of jeans out of the closet.

"Well, I'm going to go take a shower. A very cold one," Mike said unhappily, getting up and heading for the bathroom.

Mike and Jill arrived at the precinct just over half an hour later. Ryker was standing at the front desk talking to the sergeant.

"The reports are in Sgt. Older's office. The sooner you get them signed, the sooner you can start your weekend," Ryker told Mike when they approached the desk.

"Yes, sir. I'll be right back, babe," Mike said as he walked toward the Watch Commander's office.

Ryker glanced over at Jill and smiled conspiratorially, holding out a set of keys. "Good morning, Mrs. Danko. How's the knee?"

"Better, sir. I was wondering how you were going to get him up here," Jill admitted with a grin.

"Yeah, I just hope he isn't upset when he finds out the reports didn't need to be signed. Everything you need's in the house. Have a good time and tell Mike to bring me the keys on Monday," he told her as Mike came out of the Watch Commander's office.

"Sir, Sgt. Older said he doesn't know anything about any reports that need to be signed," Mike told Lt. Ryker, clearly confused.

"Then it must've been my mistake, Danko. I apologize for bringing you down here for nothing. Have a nice weekend and I'll see you Monday," Ryker told them, walking off.

"What was that all about?" Mike asked in confusion.

"I don't know. I've got an idea. Let's go home and take up where we left off when the phone rang," Jill suggested, taking his hand and squeezing it.

"Okay, but I'm taking the phone off of the hook," Mike agreed, taking her hand as they walked out of the precinct.

CHAPTER TWO: Jill's Surprise

When they walked into the apartment after going out to breakfast, Mike locked the door and turned toward Jill, pulling her into his arms and kissing her.

"Now, where were we?" He asked.

"I have a surprise," she told him as she locked her arms around his waist.

"What surprise?" He asked in a deep voice, pulling her even closer.

"Lt. Ryker gave me the keys to his getaway," she continued innocently. "I saw him at the hospital last week. He offered us his getaway for the weekend. I think he still feels bad about me almost getting blown up in his car."

"So, that little thing a while ago was just a ruse to get me up there so he could give you the keys?" he realized with a grin.

"We can leave as soon as we throw some stuff together," she admitted, kissing him. "That is, if you're not too distracted."

"I think I can keep my hormones under control until we get to the lake," he said, returning her kiss before releasing her.

The lake house was approximately an hour's drive from town. Mike parked the car in the carport and took the keys from Jill, who looked around as Mike took their bag to the guest bedroom. The house wasn't very big, but it had a cozy feel to it. Jill had enjoyed staying there with the lieutenant after the attempt on his life several weeks before. She'd been anxious to come back with Mike and share it with him.

Mike came out of the guest room and joined her in the other room, where she was looking at the pictures on the wall. She leaned against him when he slipped his arms around her waist.

"This is nice. I feel relaxed, already," he murmured in her ear.

"Take a walk with me," she suggested, pulling away and holding her hand out to him.

He took her hand as they walked outside. The sun was shining brightly off the lake, throwing out glimmers of light off of everything. They walked slowly around the lake, each lost in their own thoughts. Mike finally found a spot in the grass to sit down and pulled Jill down with him. She leaned against his shoulder and sighed.

"What's wrong?" He asked as he started nibbling her ear.

"Nothing. It's just so pretty out here. When I was here before, I was lonely without you. I know you were trying to find out who was trying to kill Lt. Ryker, but it was still lonely. All I could think about was sharing this with you," she confessed.

"I know," he agreed with a smile. "I wish I'd had more time to check out the place with you, but everything got so crazy."

"Oh, things were tense at first, but it wasn't so bad. I still got to be with you at night and one of the guys was always here with us during the day, so at least I had some balance," she admitted.

They sat on the grass for a long time in silence before getting up and walking back to the house. Jill fixed them both lunch and they ate on the back patio, watching the ducks on the lake. It was a change from the hustle and bustle of the city. After lunch, Mike went into the guest room and stretched out on his stomach on the bed. Jill sat down next to him and began to gently knead his shoulders. He put his head on his arms and willed himself to stay still.

Jill continued rubbing his shoulders through his shirt before moving down his back. She pulled his shirt out of the waistband of his jeans and moved her hands underneath. Mike gasped at the first contact of her hands on his bare skin. It was hard to remain still as he became more and more aroused, especially when she leaned down and began to plant kisses up and down his bare spine.

"That was incredible!" He groaned as he rolled over and pulled her down on top of him.

"I'm glad you liked it," she smiled, propping herself up on his chest so she could gaze into his eyes. They were so incredibly intense that Jill never tired of looking into them. She unbuttoned the buttons on his shirt and bent down to slowly kiss her way down his chest, smiling at his sharp intake of breath. Just as they were both getting caught up in the heat of the moment they heard the doorbell ring.

"You've got to be kidding me! What is this, a conspiracy?" Mike groaned, sitting up and buttoning his shirt back up, the mood completely broken.

He slowly walked back into the living room where the doorbell was persistently ringing, Jill right behind him. He opened it to find a man standing there.

"Pardon me, I'm sorry to disturb you. I'm Mr. Foster. I live up the road. Lt. Ryker told me he'd be having houseguests and since Mr. Applegate's also out of town, he asked me to check in and make sure you didn't need anything," the older man said.

"We're fine, Mr. Foster. I think we have everything we need, but thanks for asking," Mike said, trying to get rid of this unwanted intrusion.

"Well, if you need anything, my number should be by Lt. Ryker's phone. Have a nice weekend," Mr. Foster tipped his baseball cap toward Jill as he shuffled back towards the road.

"I don't believe this," Mike muttered, closing the door and leaning against it. "The next time we take a romantic weekend we're going to Antarctica."

"Oh, come on, sweetheart. He was just trying to be neighborly," she told him, walking over and wrapping her arms around his waist. "We can always go back into the other room and finish what we started."

"I'd love to, only I have a feeling that we're going to get interrupted again by Willie and Terry."

"I know. I'm not crazy about it, either, but think of it this way. It's good practice for when we have kids," she told him.

"Let's go swimming," he suddenly suggested.

"Are you crazy? The water in the lake must be freezing!" She looked at him skeptically.

"Oh, come on! It'll be fun. Then, when we come back in, I'll cook you a romantic dinner and show you how much I love you," he cajoled, kissing her.

Jill wasn't kidding when she told him the water would be freezing. She could feel herself instantly turning blue as soon as she eased into it.

"We'll warm up as soon as we start moving around," Mike assured her, pulling her close.

"Are we going to do anything in here that'll embarrass the ducks?" She asked as she wrapped her arms around his neck.

"I don't think so, since certain parts of my anatomy seem to have disappeared," he answered.

"That's okay," she laughed. "I'm sure they'll come back later."

"I hope so. I don't want this weekend to be a total waste," he confided as he continued nibbling on her neck and shoulders.

"It hasn't been a total waste. We've been together and except for being interrupted every time we try to make love, I've had a nice time," she said.

"I've had a nice time, too," he agreed, capturing her lips with his own.

They only stayed in the water a short time before the cold became too much to bear. They sat on the deck, drying out before going back to the house.

"I'm going to run a bath. Would you care to join me?" Jill asked suggestively when they walked back into the house.

"Yeah, I'd like that," he smiled at her.

Lt. Ryker had an old-fashioned claw-foot tub in his bathroom. Jill loved it, knowing that it was more than big enough for the two of them. She ran the bath water while Mike was in the other room getting their robes. Jill was piling her hair on top of her head when he entered the bathroom. He kissed her on the back of her neck before disrobing and gingerly stepping into the tub. Jill climbed into the hot water after Mike had settled in, sighing as she leaned back in his arms. She ran her hands up and down his legs as he leaned back against the back of the tub and closed his eyes.

"Do you think Ryker would notice if we took his tub?" Mike asked as he made himself comfortable.

"Probably. He's been a cop a long time," she answered, smiling as Mike's fingers drew lazy circles on her bare breasts before traveling down lower. "If you keep that up, we're never going to leave this tub."

"At least we'd have room to maneuver," he remarked, kissing the back of her neck, causing shivers to go down Jill's spine.

Jill sat up and turned around so she was facing Mike. She put her hands on his face and kissed him, gently at first, then with increasing passion as his hands continued caressing her wet skin.

"I think I promised you a romantic dinner," he murmured into her mouth.

"You did, but who needs food?" She replied softly murmured.

"So, do you want to get out and take this into the other room?" He asked as he pulled her closer.

She pulled away from him and nodded. She moved back so he could step out first. He then held out his hand and helped her step out onto the bath mat. They dried each other off in between heated kisses and caresses before wrapping each other in fluffy bathrobes.

"I'd better get in the other room and start dinner. You're going to need all of the strength you can get," Mike advised, reluctantly pulling away from her.

"Okay. Do you need any help?" She asked, smiling.

"If you mean do I need any distractions, the answer's no," he told her.

After a nice dinner with wine and candles they settled on the sofa together. Jill stretched her legs across Mike's lap as he locked his arms around her waist.

"Dinner was wonderful. It makes me realize that you're a better cook than I am," she admitted quietly, snuggling closer into his embrace.

"Well, you do order a mean pepperoni pizza," he teased.

"Thanks a lot," she said, playfully slapping at his chest.

"I love you so much," he whispered, pulling her closer and kissing her.

Jill moaned softly as his lips wandered over to caress her jaw before moving down to his favorite spot on her neck. She moved her legs where they rested in his lap, smiling when she felt his almost immediate response. He pulled her away from him and smiled.

"You're a tease," he complained good-naturedly before pulling her back toward him again. She jumped slightly when he put his hand inside her robe to touch her bare skin, his fingers lightly teasing her breasts. She was surprised when he suddenly stood up and lifted her into his arms. "We need more room," he whispered.

When they got to the bedroom, he laid her on the bed before lying down beside her. He untied her robe and opened it to his roving eyes and exploring fingers before following the path with his lips and tongue. Jill sucked in her breath when he bent down to take an engorged nipple into his mouth, teasing it into an even tauter peak with his tongue. All the while his hands were moving slowly down her body, stroking and caressing, making it impossible for her to remain still. She could feel his arousal against her bare skin. Reaching down to stroke him slowly with one hand, she used the other to untie his robe and slide it off of his body. Mike broke away from her long enough to free himself from the robe and move it aside on the bed.

He pulled her even closer into his arms as she continued teasing him, running her fingers up and down his length, smiling at his increasingly ragged breathing and occasional groan of pleasure as he once again began kissing her neck and working his way down. He finally couldn't take any more of Jill's exquisite torture.

"Jill, please stop," he whispered huskily, gently removing her hand.

"I thought you liked me touching you," she teased, smiling at the look of tortured pleasure he gave her.

"I do. It's just after all of the interruptions we've had today, I want things to last and if you keep touching me like that, they're not going to," He whispered in a throaty voice, bending down to once again capture her lips with his own.

Now it was her turn to cry out into his mouth as his fingers reached down to touch and caress, filling her with sensations that continued to surprise her, even after all of the times they'd made love. She reached down to caress him once more before guiding him to her, crying out once more as he filled her. Locking her legs tightly around him, she pulled him as close to her as they could possibly get.

Mike pulled back slightly until he was looking straight into her eyes. She smiled at the look at love in his eyes as he gently kissed both eyelids before tracing a path down her jaw and throat, smiling at the sound of her soft cries as he slowly moved within her, cries that gradually increased as their pace quickened, until Jill cried out Mike's name as she reached her peak. Hearing her call his name was all it took to bring Mike over the edge as well.

For the next several minutes, the only sound that could be heard was the sound of their ragged breathing as it slowly returned to normal. Mike raised up slightly so they could share some slow, tender kisses. This was the part of their lovemaking that Jill always enjoyed the most. The warm weight of him as they both came back down to earth always made her feel safe and very loved. She slowly ran her hands down his back as she slowly brought her legs back down, reluctantly releasing him. He kissed her once more before rolling over and pulling her close to him.

"I'll have to make sure that I thank Lt. Ryker personally for this weekend," Jill murmured drowsily as Mike hugged her closer.

"I don't know what I would've done if we'd gotten interrupted this time," Mike said as Jill smiled up at him with sleepy brown eyes.

"Sweetheart, I don't think even a freight train coming through here would've stopped us this time," she told him as he laughed.

CHAPTER THREE: Coming Back To The Real World

Monday morning, Mike walked into Roll Call looking like something the cat dragged in. Willie and Terry looked at each other before glancing at Mike.

"Hey, Terry? I thought if a person had three days off in a row, they'd come back to work looking chipper and refreshed. Michael here looks like he just spent the last three days working a stakeout," Willie commented with a wry smile

"So, Mike, what happened this weekend that would make you come in here looking like some of the drunks that we pull in here on Saturday night?" Terry asked.

"You guys know perfectly well what happened this weekend," Mike told the two guys as they looked at each other and grinned.

"In that case, would you like to hear about our weekend? While you were off making mad, passionate love to your wife for the last three days, William and I were out on the streets arresting burglars and shoplifters and other assorted dregs of society. Now, ask yourself, given the choice, which would you've rather been doing?" Terry asked, sitting back in his chair.

"Well, I'm sure that my memories of this weekend are sure to be a lot more fun than yours," Mike grinned.

"Terry, does that mean that if we ask him a question today, he's not going to hear us because he's going to have that look on his face? That look that says, 'I'm not here, I'm still up at the lake with my wife doing things that I can't even tell you guys about,'" Willie complained good-naturedly.

"That's exactly what it means, William," Mike agreed with a nod.

Ryker was in his office that afternoon when he heard a knock on his door.

"Come in!"" he called.

Jill walked into the room, almost as if on air. "Hello, Lieutenant."

"Well, good afternoon, Mrs. Danko. I trust you had a nice weekend."

"We had a wonderful time. Thank you very much," Jill told him as she handed him back the key to his place.

"I figured you probably did. This morning in Roll Call, your husband had the attention span of a gnat," Ryker commented.

Jill blushed furiously.

"Now, now, Mrs. Danko," he continued, slight smile playing on his lips. "There's no need to be embarrassed." I'm glad you had a good time."

"I guess I'd better let you get back to your work. Thank you again," she replied hastily, opening the door and walking out.

Ryker smiled to himself as he returned to his desk and his paperwork.
