The Old Whitefish Falls Hotel (1969)

Actors, Bernard Assinwi and Sonny Bell, walk by the old hotel which burned to the ground in 1991, and was replaced by the Red Dog Tavern. Taken from the episode "Where the Rice Grows Wild". You can see the bridge and church in the background.

I have a soft spot for that Hotel. I started out staying at the Hotel and stayed there for at least three months. I stayed upstairs above the bar (more about that later). I can’t remember the names of the folks that owned the hotel anymore but they were some of the kindest people I have every met. They treated me like family. They had an old Doberman Pinser dog that used to scare the hell out me as I would come up the back stairs to my room. Anyway, there was a bar below my room where all the locals would go to party. The songs of the day was Please Release Me… I hope by now he was released. The owners of the hotel would invite me to watch ball games when I did’nt head back to Toronto on Saturdays….it was the first year of the Expos. My first date with Tanice Montgomery was at ‘the hotel’…keep it a secret please !!!

I am quite sure the young boy is actor Sonny Bell, who also appeared in one episode. of The Forest Rangers "Death Dance" (1965). He was accidentally shot by John Conaqueese in that episode.
