Summary: A little bit of everything and a lot of love pops up when the electricity goes out on Thanksgiving.

David swung the cabin door inward and stepped inside. He clicked the snow off of his shoes, unwrapped the scarf from his neck and hung it along with his jacket on the coat rack next to the door.

"Something smells great," David said, sniffing the air as he entered. "And I don’t see any smoke, so I guess that’s good."

"Very funny," Anna said stepping out of the kitchen, flour on her face. "And look at you," she said referring to the snow on his shoes and clothes. "How bad is it out there?"

"It’s going to get worse," David assured her. "I haven’t seen it snow this hard on Thanksgiving Day in a long time." David paused a moment and then smiled, lifting his hand and wiping Anna’s face. "Is today really the best day to try to cook dinner?" He laughed as Anna playfully pushed his hand away. "What is this? Flour?"

"I was making the mashed potatoes."

David thought for a moment. "You don’t put... flour in mashed potatoes, Anna."

Anna tried to hide her giggle, but couldn’t. The smile showed on her face from ear to ear. David shook his head.

"Why don’t I get a fire started?" David asked. He walked over to the fire place. "How did you do in there?"

"It wasn’t hard," Anna said. "Defrost, preheat, cook. How could I mess up a turkey?"

Outside the wind began to whip and whirl. It knocked up against the windows and whistled loudly. David and Anna looked over at eachother as the lights inside the cabin flickered and after a moment went out.

"Great," David said. "This is just great." He picked up the telephone. "No electricity. Wouldn’t you just guess that we would get stuck in the middle of a blackout?"

"It’s not the end of the world, David," Anna said. "You have a cellphone, you can call the electric company. I’m sure it’s only the weather."

David lifted his hand and ran his fingers back through his hair. "Well, I’m going to go turn off the oven, so when the electricity does eventually go back on, we don’t get blown into the next world."

David turned and started towards the kitchen. "Oh, I’ll take care of it," Anna said, and started to walk after David when she felt herself grow dizzy. She took hold of the arm of the sofa, placing one hand on her swollen belly.

"Anna," David rushed to Anna’s side, helping her sit. "Are you OK?"
"I just moved too fast," Anna told him.

"Here, sit."
"David, I’m fine."
"I’d rather you just relax for a while." David stood and walked into the kitchen, returning with a glass of water. "Besides," he said, handing her the glass. "Where are you going to go?" Anna smiled as David sat down beside her. "You know," David said. "I remember when I was about six, it snowed like this on Thanksgiving. Vanessa was off somewhere, who knows. I spent the holiday with my dad. We did all the things a six year old kid would love. Build snowmen, a fort... we had a snowball fight that lasted for hours. It was one of the best days."

"I wish I could have spent more time like that with my daughter when she was younger."

"Robin?" Anna nodded. "Yeah," David continued. "I feel the same way... about my family I mean. I have two brother that I hardly even know. And I’ll never have the chance to know Leo." David stood and walked over to the fireplace. "But, I do know that Leo loved the holidays. It could be...St. Patrick’s Day and Leo would celebrate."

"He enjoyed being with his family."

"He was fun to be around. He would do anything for anyone. I... I remember this one time I was in jail..."
"David, you were in jail?" Anna smiled.

"Very funny, Anna," David said returning to the couch. "Really. I was sitting in my jail cell... The same cell they throw me in every time. An ax murderer on one side, a maniac schitzo on the other. Leo hadn’t been in town for a long time. We were just starting to give eachother a chance. Believe me, Anna, he was the last person I expected to see."

"So, Leo visited you in jail..."

"He posted my bail, Anna," David interrupted her. "A brother who I hardly knew. He posted bail. He trusted me enough to put his own freedom on the line."

"You two were good for eachother," Anna said gently rubbing her hand over her belly.

"How are you feeling?" David asked her.

"Better," Anna answered. "Here." Anna grabbed David’s hand in her’s and placed it on her abdomen. "You can feel the baby moving...There. There, do you feel him?"

David smiled. "Yeah...Wow. I can still hardly believe that we created that... that new life inside of you. But..." David paused a moment. "You seem so sure it’s a boy."

"Just a mother’s instinct, I guess."

"Oh, so that’s what you call it." David smiled. He glanced into Anna’s eyes. They glistened as they connected with his. He took hold of both of her hands and spoke. "Anna, you’re everything to me."

"Oh, David," Anna said, practically blushing. "You sound just like that song."

David brought Anna’s hands upto his face. "I don’t ever want to hurt you again," he continued. "I want our life together to be perfect. And after this whole ordeal with Maria Grey is over, we can have the life that we always wanted. No more living my life from the inside of a jail cell. No more worrying if someone or something from my past will pop up and hurt you. We will be able to let the past stay just that, the past."

Anna lowered her hands from his face, but still held onto him. "I want to believe you, David. I’m trying so hard to believe what you tell me."

"There will be no more broken promises, Anna. No more... wondering what I could be upto. You’re looking at a changed person, a new person. For you, for our child. It’s made me see how much I needed to change. Leo’s death forced me to realize how if I didn’t, I would end up like my mother. I would be leading a life like Vanessa. I don’t want that, Anna. What I do want is to be there for my family. I want to get married again, to go on the honeymoon we never had. I want to practice medicine in Pine Valley again. I want to raise our child. And most of all, Anna. I want you to go back to work without a thought in your mind whether you’ll need to come arrest me. Because you’ll know that you won’t."

"You want all the same things I do," Anna said.

"There’s nothing to say we can’t have these things. I love you, Anna."

All of a sudden, the lights in the cabin began to flicker and the room illuminated again. David and Anna looked around.

"Do you realize, David," Anna said. "This is the first time we sat down together to just talk."

"It took a blackout to get us to do it. We should be able to do this, Anna. Electricity, no electricity. Holiday or no holiday."

"I agree." Anna paused. "David, what I said about wanting to believe you. It’s true. I want to see you this changed man you talk about. And I think I’m beginning to see that man."

David lifted his right hand, cradling Anna’s cheek in his palm. "So... does that mean you’ll give me another chance to prove it to you?"

Anna leaned forward, pressing her lips gingerly against his. After a moment, she slowly pulled back, their eyes meeting again. " I love you," Anna said. "I do."

David and Anna embraced again. Their love for eachother seemed to fill the room. David’s words echoed in Anna’s mind. And even though Thanksgiving Day was nearing an end, she had a feeling deep down in her heart that the love that she and David shared would go on forever, and that this part of the past would always be remembered.
