the podsters & the slayerettes

01. The Freshman 1999-10-05
Buffy goes to college. Her cloying new roommate, Kathy (Dagney Kerr), actually likes Celine Dion. Her strict new psychology professor, Maggie Walsh (Lindsay Crouse), is nicknamed "the evil bitch monster of death." And with vamp activity running low, she's no longer a big slayer on campus - until she realizes that students are disappearing (and not because of poor grades). The fight is on.

02. Living Conditions 1999-10-12
Buffy suspects she has a roommate from hell when Kathy borrows and ruins her clothes, listens to Lite FM, and horns in on Buffy's new "patootie" Parker (Adam Kaufman). But is it all in Buffy's head? The gang thinks so. Guess who's right.

03. The Harsh Light of Day 1999-10-19
A tale of three soured relationships. Spike returns with his newly undead girlfriend - the gang's annoying former classmate, Harmony - whose constant nagging drives him mad as he searches for the all-powerful Gem of Amara. Buffy gives in to her lust feelings for the seemingly sensitive Parker, then overhears him using his sob story to lure another girl into bed. And Anya shows up to have sex with Xander so she can get him out of her head, then feels shafted when he doesn't declare his love.

04. Fear, Itself 1999-10-26
In this hair-raising Halloween episode, the gang gets trapped inside a haunted house frat party, where the demon Gachnar manifests each guest's worst fear: Buffy believes her friends have deserted her, Xander is rendered invisible, Oz turns wolfy, and Willow can't control her magic. When the demon itself finally appears, he's truly nothing to fear: Gachnar is so wee that he's no match for Buffy's heel.

05. Beer Bad 1999-11-02
Professor Walsh's lecture on the id foreshadows the latest campus predicament: The local barkeep is adding something to the beer: Those who imbibe, including Buffy, go Neanderthal, reverting to their primal impulses.

06. Wild at Heart 1999-11-09
Oz escapes his cage and shares his full-moon fever with Veruca, the she-wolf. To make matters worse, he insists that she sleep in his cage the following night, so she won't run wild, and Willow sees them together. Oz eventually kills Veruca to save Willow, but all is not well. He leaves town, saying he shouldn't be around people until he figures out how to handle the wild wolf within.

07. The Initiative 1999-11-16
Riley realizes he's actually interested in Buffy and enlists Willow's help to win her "peculiar" (and oblivious) friend. But he's a busy guy: Unbeknownst to Buffy, he's a special agent in an "initiative" run by Professor Walsh, and his current mission is to find Spike, who's escaped from the secret headquarters where the group holds evildoers captive.

08. Pangs 1999-11-23
Angel's back, secretly watching over Buffy because he's afraid she's in danger. But so is Hus, a Chumash Indian spirit who returns when the old Sunnydale Mission is uncovered, and seeks vengeance for his people. And the last thing Buffy wants to do during a cozy, politically correct Thanksgiving is slay a Native American, even if he is a ghost. She finally gets the job done after being attacked by an entire murderous tribe.

09. Something Blue 1999-11-30
Willow has no idea that her spell (to have her "will be done") has actually worked. She inadvertently strikes Giles blind, makes Xander a "demon magnet" - and causes Spike and Buffy to become betrothed. The demon D'Hoffryn is so impressed at the pain Willow's inflicted that he offers to elevate her to a demon, but she turns him down and works to reverse the spell.

10. Hush 1999-12-14
Sunnydale is terrorized by pale, bald, mute, grinning monsters called The Gentlemen, who "steal" the voices of the entire town, then set about trying to accumulate seven human hearts from their silenced victims. The only thing that can kill them is the sound of a human scream - which Buffy emits after she and Riley smash the monsters' voice-storage box. In the process, they finally discover that they're on the same side of the law.

11. Doomed 2000-01-18
An earthquake convinces Buffy that the end of the world is coming. ("The last time we had an earthquake? I died," she explains.) Even Giles believes her after seeing a demonic symbol that had been scratched into a victim. With the help of Riley and Spike, the gang prevents the guilty demon and his two pals from carrying out their plan to reopen the hellmouth at the burned-out Sunnydale High.

12. A New Man 2000-01-25
Giles feels out of the loop (and unnecessary) when he's the last to find out about Buffy's involvement with Riley (Marc Blucas), the Initiative, and Professor Maggie Walsh (Lindsay Crouch) - to whom he takes an immediate dislike. Little does he know that he's about to reenter the spotlight: His troublemaking old pal Ethan Rayne (Robin Sachs) comes to town and turns him into a Fyarl demon.

13. The I in Team 2000-02-08
Buffy enlists in the Initiative, unaware of what Professor Walsh is really doing in room 314 of the compound: She's playing Frankenstein, creating a monster named Adam (George Hertzberg) out of demon body parts. Believing that Buffy knows too much, Walsh tricks her into going on a suicide mission - or what would have been one for anybody but a Slayer.

14. Goodbye Iowa 2000-02-15
Riley learns that Walsh is dead, and even after learning about her nefarious secret project, Adam (who has escaped and killed a child), he can't help but feel loyal to her. It doesn't help that he's suffering from withdrawal from the chemicals Walsh was sneaking into his food to make him stronger. So he begins to doubt Buffy's motives.

15. This Year's Girl, Part 1 2000-02-22
Faith (Eliza Dushku) miraculously wakes up from her eight-month coma, with a major vendetta against Buffy. Lucky for her, the late mayor has left her a present: A gadget that, in the final moments of this episode (which is part one of two), allows her to switch bodies with Buffy.

16. Who Are You?, Part 2 2000-02-29
Faith decides to make the most of her time in Buffy's body by partying hard - and seducing Riley. But she gets more than she bargained for: Being on the receiving end of so much goodwill and affection reawakens her desire to help people. Buffy, meanwhile, escapes from the clutches of the Watcher Council's goon squad, and, with Willow and Tara's help, reverses the spell.

17. Superstar 2000-04-04
Another amazing play on the Buffy formula: This time, we've landed in the middle of geeky Jonathan's (Danny Strong) wildest fantasies. He's now the star of the show (including the opening credits); Buffy is his sidekick. But the "augmentation spell" he used to create this alternate universe has a downside. While it makes everyone believe he's the best of everything, it also conjures up an ogre who represents the WORST.

18. Where The Wild Things Are 2000-04-25
Buffy and Riley's explosive sex life awakens a "disembodied presence" at Lowell House, where Riley lives. The poltergeists are the spirits of children who lived there when it was the Lowell Home for Children, a facility run by a cruel, scripture-spouting matron who believed sex was "dirty."

19. New Moon Rising 2000-05-02
Oz (Seth Green) is back, claiming to have his "wolfy" side under control. But Willow's heart has gone on: It now belongs to Tara. And when Oz figures that out, things get hairy. Literally. Meanwhile, Buffy worries that Riley is a bigot when he criticizes Willow for having dated a monster.

20. The Yoko Factor, Part 1 2000-05-09
Spike spreads rumors among the Scooby gang, instigating a slew of infighting in hopes that the group will break up. That way, Adam can defeat Buffy - and, as a result, help Spike by removing the chip from his head.

21. Primeval, Part 2 2000-05-16
Buffy discovers the hard way what Adam is up to: He's created an army of "cyberdemonoid" zombies out of the dead, including Professor Walsh and Forrest. And: He's caused a riot in the Initiative to provide him with a fresh supply of body parts. And: He's activated a behavior modification chip that forces Riley to do his will.

22. Restless 2000-05-23
Turns out, the team unleashed the primeval power of the first slayer when they did that injoining spell-and she's not happy. She tries to kill Willow, Xander, Giles and Buffy in their sleep after they nod off during a "vidfest." Meaning we get a tour of their dreams.
