One invention that has had a profound impact on society and culture
is the television. In 1844 people gained the ability to transmit messages over long distances
quickly and efficiently with the help of Samuel Morse’s telegraph. In 1901 Guglielmo
Marconi was able to send messages in Morse code using radio waves without wires. The
ability to transmit sound and the radio followed soon after. The television is considered
by many to be an extension of the radio, adding sight to sound.
