Divorce Papers
By: G. Barton

Olivia rolled over to see the clock read 3 am. "Who is it?" She yelled as she stumbled towards the door.

"Who is it?" She yelled out.

"It's Elliot."

She cracked the door open to see him standing there.

"Can I come in?"

She opened the door to let him in. "What is it that it couldn't wait until morning?"

"It is morning." He handed her some papers.

"Later in the morning." She ran her hand through her hair. She took a seat next to him on the couch. "Divorce papers?" She looked over at him. "Oh El. I'm sorry."

"I knew it was coming but I was hoping...you know."

"Do you want to talk about it?"

"Maybe I should go. It is 3 in the morning." He started to get up.

She touched his hand. "Elliott, stay. Let's talk." He took his seat back on the couch. She glanced over at him. She saw a tear rolling down his face.

"Kathy said I could visit the kids whenever I wanted."

"That's good." She really didn't know what to say him. She hadn't been in a situation like this before.

"I guess I won't be needing this." He took off his wedding ring and dropped it on the table in front of them.

Olivia watched the ring spin on the table until it finally stopped.

"Liv,"

"Mmm." She looked up at him again.

"Would it be ok if I stay on the couch?"

"Sure. I'll get you a blanket." She got up and returned a few minutes later with a pillow and a blanket. "Do you need anything else?" She asked as she handed it to him.

"Yeah." He pulled her down into his lap. "You to hold me." He rested his head on her chest.

"Elliot." She tried to push him back but he held her onto her tight.

"I'm sorry." He cried. He let her go. Still sitting in his lap, Olivia wiped the tears which continued to flow. He knew she cared for him after all; they have been partners for six years.

After six years you begin to know everything about that person, their likes, dislikes.

Not realizing she was still in his lap, Elliot leaned in to kiss her. "El...liot." Their lips touched. Olivia wanted to pull back. He was still married and her partner. But something inside her wouldn't do it. She deepened the kiss, their tongues fighting for control. Elliot thinking he should have the control cause he started it or her for not stopping it. Either way they sat on her couch kissing.

Next thing she realized Elliot had his hand up her shirt, pulling it over her head.

"Wait!" She stopped him. They stared into each other’s eyes. "We can't do this. It's wrong."

He didn't move, his eyes silently asking her why.

Olivia stood up and took his hand. "It will be more comfortable in bed." She led the way to her bedroom. They began dropping clothes like they were on fire.

Fire. They were on fire alright and it wasn't the flame of something burning unless you wanted to say it was the heat of passion.

Their bodies soon found the desire they both had been fighting against. Their love for each other. Love more than a working partner can give.

Olivia woke to the alarm clock buzzing. She went to hit the snooze button but ended up hitting Elliot instead.

"Elliot." She whispered like the alarm clock wasn't going to wake him.

"Mmm." He opened one eye. The noise from the clock finally penetrating his senses. They both reached for the clock in a desperate attempt to silence it.

"Good morning." His face was inches from hers. He went for a kiss but she turned her head.

"Morning." She was scared to face him after what happened a few hours before.

"Liv."

"Uh."

"Look at me."

She sat up in the bed with the sheet covering her. "I have to get ready for work." She got up from the bed, taking the sheet with her and headed straight to the bathroom; shutting the door behind her.

Elliot got up and found his clothes. He knocked on the door. "See you at work." he called Olivia didn't answer.

***

When he arrived at work, Olivia was sitting at her desk. She glanced up but didn't say a word. "Morning." He pulled his chair out and sat down.

"Morning." She spoke softly and didn't make eye contact.

"Elliot and Olivia." Cragen walked in. "They found a body on 42nd Street.

"We're on it." They stood and headed out the door.

Elliot was driving. He couldn't take the silent any longer. "Are you going to speak to me?"

"Nothing happened." She finally spoke.

He pulled up to the scene and they got out. He came up behind her. "Yes it did and we need to talk later."

"I'm Detective Stabler and this is my partner Detective Benson." Elliot said as they flashed their badges.

"We have a white female found by a cab driver."

"What do you think?" He asked as they looked at the body.

"Well, maybe she lived near by."

"Detectives." They turned to see a fellow police officer. "I have something over here."

They headed his way. "Panties."

They talked to everyone after they gathered up what information they could get from the body and crime scene. They headed back to the police station.

Before they knew it, it was time to call it a day. Olivia quickly and quietly slipped out. She wasn't ready to face Elliot.

She stopped by the market on her way home, making sure to pick up dinner as well as some comfort food. Sitting her keys down on the table in the entry way, the first things Olivia saw upon entering her apartment were Elliot's divorce papers and wedding band. She picked them and began to read them. She heard a knock on the door. She knew who it was without even going to the door.

"Olivia, let me in."

She sat there quiet.

"I know you are in there."

Still she didn't move.

"Liv, I need my papers." She got up and headed for the door. Opening it, she peeked out.

"Did anyone see you?"

"What?" He laughed.

"I don't want anyone to..."

"Come on, Liv. I have been a hundred times."

"Yeah, but now you are getting divorced."

"Are you going to let me in?"

She stepped back and let him.

"Liv, about earlier." She closed the door behind him. "If you are not ready to talk about, then I won't push. But..."

"There is always a but." She handed him the papers. "You were only thinking of Kathy. I know. You were letting off some steam. I understand, completely."

"No, I was thinking of you." He pushed her against the wall of her apartment. He kissed her.

"You are all I think about these days." He began kissing her neck.

"Elliot." She whispered as she tugged at his pants.

She managed to get the pants unbutton and unzip as he began to get hers down to her knees. They stepped out their pants. He lifted her up and entered her slowly. Her head hit the back of the wall and she wrapped her legs around his waist.

"I wanted you all day." He whispered in her ear.

She let out a moan.

With one hand he held his balance as he began to work on the buttons on her shirt. When he got her free from the lace bra that held her perky breast in, he started to pay attention to each breast and forgetting about the rest of her.

She wrapped her arms around his neck securing his mouth in place. He had both of his hands on either side of her holding onto the wall. He pushed into her again, fast this time.

"Elliot." She whispered again.

"Mmm."

"I'm falling." He lost his balance and they hit the floor. She landed on him. It didn't stop them.

She looked down at him and grabbed his neck as she kissed him. He wrapped his arms around her back pulling her down into him. She fell on him, breathing very heavy, she tried to pick herself up but her arms were too weak. Just like the rest of her.

"Elliot."

"Yeah." He sounded the way she felt.

"We have to quit doing this."

He laughed.

"What?" She looked him in the eyes.

"I'm sorry." He sat up taking her with him.

"I'm serious. You are still married." She gave him a look that said, 'Answer me.'

"Quit looking at me that way."

"Say something."

"Race you to the bedroom."

"El. I'm serious. I can see Kathy having me on the stand anyway. I don't think we need to add adultery to the situation."

"What she doesn't know, won't hurt her?"

"She will find out."

"How?"

"Trust me, *we* always find out."

"Say my name."

"Why?"

"I like the way you say it." He leaned in to kiss her again.

"Elliot." She pulled back. "We can't. I think you should leave." She moved out of his lap.

"I don't want to leave." He protested.

"I'm not saying forever, just til the divorce is final." She grabbed a shirt and put it on.

"You promise." He grabbed her arm.

She stared back into his eyes. "I promise." She leaned in and gave him a kiss.

He got up from floor and gathered up his clothes. Once he was dressed, he reached for her. She let him help her up off the floor.

"My shirt looks good on you." He wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her close to him.

"Thanks." She smiled back.

"I love your smile. I have one more question before I leave."

"What?" She nuzzled closer to him.

"Can we still hang out?"

"Maybe." She kissed his neck once more.

"Ok. I better go or I won't leave." He kissed the top of her head. "See you at work."

"One more kiss then you go." She pushed him against the door and laid a long passionate kiss on him. He could tell she didn't want him to leave and he knew he didn't want to go. But he did know one thing if he didn't leave soon they would end up in each others arms again.

"Good night." Olivia said as she planted small kisses on his face.

He opened the door and headed out. She shut the door and leaned against it.

"Liv."

She opened the door.

"My divorce papers."

She handed them to him. "Good night."

He answered the same back to her. She closed the door slowly. She leaned against the door again.

"It's official Olivia Marie, you are falling in love with your partner." Her mind told herA smile came across her lips in response as she locked the door and headed for bed.

The End
