A few weeks had passed in what seemed like a hazy blur to Rafe and Alison as they embarked on their quest to find his destiny and found themselves growing closer and closer with each passing day. They had spent most of their time at the barn.

***************

Rafe pulled Alison to him as they lay on the hay just enjoying just being with the other.

"I love this place." Alison looked over at Rafe as she spoke. "It's special, can't you tell?"

"Yeah, I think so." He kissed her forehead.

"I'm so happy, happier than I think I've ever been in my life."

"Really? Well I'm glad, cuz you deserve all the happiness life can bring you. You deserve everything." She smiled at him.

"If I tell you something, you promise not to laugh or freak out or anything?"

"Promise." He crossed his heart for effect which made her laugh, he loved to hear her laughter, to him there was nothing sweeter then that sound. She stopped laughing and grew more serious as she remembered what she wanted to tell him.

"I think I'm falling for you, hard." His smile grew.

"Well that's good, because I'm falling for you equally as hard, if not more so."

"Don't you find that a tad bit strange?"

"No, I mean sudden, yes, but when you find that someone who you know in your heart is right, than it's never too sudden. It's just..."

"What?"

"I can't offer you what you deserve to have. I can't promise a life together, I can't promise to stay forever. It's not fair to you for us to get too involved..."

"What do you mean too involved, I'm already involved, Rafe, we are involved. It's to late to not be. I told you I'm falling in love with you and you say you are too, so lets just take it one day at a time."

"Alison, it's just not..."

"Fair?" she finished. "I get that, honestly Rafe I do, but even if it's not a lifetime, it'll be enough. It has to be. Why miss out on something that has the opportunity to be so great, just because we are afraid of the end result? I want to make each moment really count. Nothing lasts forever, Rafe, just our time is shorter than most, but I still want it just the same."

"Are you sure?"

"I'm sure."

"If your sure than I'm sure." They kissed and it turned more passionate, he rubbed his hands up and down her back as the kiss intensified. His lips slowly traveled to her neck, that spot that had haunted his dreams all last night. She threw her head back to give him better access, she loved the feeling of his lips on her bare skin.

Lucy set out her tarot cards trying once again to find her cousin's true destiny. She knew it was important to him and if it was important to him than it was important to her, he was after all family. Everytime she would do a reading she kept coming up with the same thing she had the first time, but that didn't stop her from trying just one more time. This time something new came up and her eyes widened.

"That's it, his destiny, I know what it is and he's already found it, he just doesn't know it yet." She smiled.

**********

"Ed?"

"What now? No they haven't remembered anything yet, it will take a little more time. How many times do I keep having to tell you that?"

"That's not what I was going to ask."

"Than what?"

"Are you pulling for them to get together or what? Cuz sometimes I see you smiling at how happy they are and then I see you frown at how happy they are."

"I want the kid to be happy, trust me I do."

"But you think Alison isn't his happiness?"

"I didn't say that, I think she just might be."

"Then why so sad?"

"I've just grown attached to having him around."

"Ed, I always knew you had a soft spot for Rafe, don't tell me you're gonna miss him if he succeeds his mission and is allowed to stay on earth for a lifetime?"

"Alright I'll miss him, happy now!?"

"I'll miss him too, but just think of everything he'll get to experience if...when he succeeds. He'll have love, and most likely kids, grandkids."

"Grandkids?" Ed got a far off look in his eyes and his smile grew. "He'd love that."

"Yeah, he would."

**********

Alison couldn't tear herself away from his lips and the feeling of his arms safely wrapped around him. She could get used to this, she thought and then froze. He gently pulled his lips away from her and caressed her fearful face.

"Hey, what is it?"

"Everything is so perfect." She sobbed and he grew more confused, but tenderly wiped her tears away.

"Then why the tears?"

"Because it's not gonna last forever and it should."

"See this is what I was talking about, us being together is just not fair to you. I don't want to cause you this much pain, ever and I will because I do have to leave you."

"No, you aren't the one that will cause the pain, it's the circumstances, not you, never you." She cupped his face and he saw the determination and truth in her eyes.

"I don't want to leave you, ever." He held her close to him stroking her blonde hair as a few stray tears fell down his own cheeks.

"I know." she whispered. "I know." They stayed in their embrace for a long while neither wanting to ever let the other go.

*************

Ed shook his head sadly. He hated to cause Rafe this much grief, but he knew that if everything turned out according to plan Rafe would be the happiest man on earth and Ed would be alone. He hated to admit that somewhere deep down he didn't want to let go, he didn't know how or even if he could. He closed his eyes trying to push down all his feelings and focus on the most important things, Rafe's happiness. Ed looked down and gave a small sad smile to Rafe and Alison, knowing that while his time with Rafe was ending theirs was just beginning.

*********

Rafe and Alison pulled apart slightly before she shifted and leaned back into his arms.

"Can we just stay like this forever?"

"I wish we could, you don't know how much I wish we could." She curled up in his embrace laying her head on his strong chest as he ran his hands through her hair with soothing motions. Soon she was lulled fast to sleep in the arms of her Angel.
