Rafe stood stunned for a moment as he watched the scene unfold in what seemed like slow motion. One moment she was smiling at him and it warmed him inside like nothing else in the world ever had, then the next she turned around and a bright light hit her face and the sound of screeching brakes could be heard. The sound echoed in his ear. He blinked as he saw the car hit her throwing her. Then his paralasis faded away and he was back to regular speed. He rushed to her side tears streaming down his face. He felt as if someone had punched him in the stomach and now he couldn't remember how to breathe. She looked so weak and blood was covering her face from a head wound. He looked up to the heavens and offered a silent prayer to Ed or whomever was listening to forgive him for what he knew he had to do. He placed his hands on her and closed his eyes.
"Oh god, I'm so sorry." A male voice came from behind him causing Rafe to start. Rafe looked up to the man and glared, he didn't know how, but knew that this man was the one responsible for hurting Alison.
"Well don't just stand there staring at her, get help, call 911!" Rafe screemed at him. The man nodded and took off to call for help. Rafe turned back to Alison, his face softened and he once again put his hands back on her. He consentrated and soon white light enveloped them, when it faded he stared hopefully at her face. Then he saw it, she blinked once before opening her eyes.
"Rafe?" She whispered hoarsely.
"Yeah, it's me, I'm right here. I'm right here." He smiled at her causing her to smile. She tried to sit up, but Rafe held her down.
"What happened?"
"You got hit by a car. How are you feeling?"
"I don't feel like I've been hit by a car that's for sure. I feel, I feel..."
"What?"
"I mean, I woke up and I sort of felt like almost drunk or something. You know, and I wasn't, like didn't have the woozy part or anything. I just, you know, the really, really happy part. Kind of like I was, you know, floating on a cloud or something. I mean, I just never. I don't know. I just never felt that sort of like..."
"What?"
"Like peacefulness. You know? I mean, I still sort of feel it all the way down to my toes. You know, like, t's like I feel like the world is just so beautiful and almost perfect."
"Well, it sounds like a wonderful thing."
"Yeah."
"Hold that feeling tight, Alison. They don't come along every day. They're miracles, really. Small ones."
"yeah, that's just what it's like a miracle feeling. That's exactly what it was, or it is. Was."
"Is."
"Yeah, it is. Yeah. Ok. So, now that we have that established, I guess we should just go, then."
"I think still we should get you checked out, it will only take a few moments, besides the guy that hit you already has an ambulence on the way."
"I thought I told you, I'm great, better than great." She sat up giving him a determend look, one he knew he couldn't argue with even if he wanted to.
"Fine, whatever you want, I'm just so happy that you're ok, you gave me quite a scare for a second."
"I did?"
"Yeah, I mean I doubt my cousin would be thrilled to find out that something happened to you on my watch."
"Oh so you were worried for me for Lucy's sake."
"Well, not just her sake."
"Ok then. Ready to hit the park?" Rafe laughed and Alison looked at him more than a little confused. "What's so funny."
"You. You just had a near death experience and you still wanna go hang out at the park."
"Hey I'm on a high remember."
"Just slow down ok. I don't think I can keep up with you."
"Come on. Are we going or not." She stood up and Rafe did the same.
"Whatever you want." Just then the guy that hit her came back to the scene.
"The ambulance is..." He stopped and stared at Alison than back at Rafe then at Alison agian. "...on it's way, but I take it it's not needed? What happened here, after I left she was half dead, now there's not a scratch on her?"
"It's a miracle, I don't care how it happened I'm just glad it did." Rafe said simply. "Maybe you should call and cancel that ambulance." Rafe put his arms around Alison leading her to the car leaving a bewildered man behind staring after them. He shook his head as Rafe and Alison disappeared from view.
"This has been a great day, except for the almost dying part." Alison giggled.
"I agree, I'm glad my cousin picked you as the tour guide." Rafe sat down on a bench in the park and motioned for Alison to sit next to him, which she did.
"I guess I was in the right place at the right time."
"Yeah, I guess so." Their eyes met and they couldn't help but get lost in the other.
"Rafe, there's something I wanted to ask you, and you have to promise not to laugh?"
"What?"
"I feel like I know you, that we've met before. Is that possible?"
"Maybe, but I think I would remember meeting someone as beautiful and amazing as you, but I agree I have the same feeling and I just can't seem to shake it."
"Don't you think it's strange that we both have the same feeling? Do you think it's some kind of sign?"
"What kind of sign?"
"I don't know, like, maybe we were meant to meet and be friends."
"Maybe." There was a long pause as they both stared in opposite directions. Alison closed her eyes and smiled as the feeling of peace she felt when she woke up washed over her again. She hugged herself trying to hold it close to her. Then she saw it, the accident in full color. She remembered hitting the ground and then everything went black until a bright light lit up her vision and she opened her eyes to see Rafe. She jerked her head suddenly in Rafe's direction.
"Rafe, answer me something, truthfully can you do that for me?"
"Yeah, sure."
"Did you have something to do with, you know why I'm ok now? I mean even the guy that hit me thought I was as good as dead."
"You were lucky that's all."
"That wasn't the question. Did you have anything to do with it? There was a white light that lit up everything around me, did you cause it?"
"How could I cause it?" Rafe chuckled nervously.
"I don't know, but all that was around was you and me, and I know I didn't do it. And if you didn't than what was the white light."
"Alison, drop it ok."
"No, I want answers, I can't drop these things ok."
"Well, you'll have to drop this one." His gaze was hard and meant business. Alison winced a bit at the harshness of it, but she had her determined face once again in place. Then it dawned on her.
"You did cause it, didn't you. If you hadn't you would've laughed it off, not dismiss it."
"I just think you shouldn't dwell on it, ok, put it out of your mind, the entire accident."
"How did you do it? I mean I know there are supernateral beings out there, I mean Vampires did invade this place. You're not a...wait no, a vampire would've just let me die or kill me himself. What about an alien? Are you an alien? Cuz I heard of aliens possessing the power to heal. Or, wait the white light, felt like what I imagine heaven to feel like." Rafe's face turned really worried and scared at the mention of heaven.
"Alison, just stop ok."
"That's it, are you from heaven?"
"Alison..."
"Oh my god, you are, you don't even have to say it, I can tell by your face. You're an Angel, a real life angel. The question is what are you doing here? Are you like my own guardian angel? Is that why you saved me?"
"No, but I wouldn't turn down the job."
"Then I'm right aren't I? I mean if there can be vampires, then of course there are Angels. I've always believed in them, ever since I was little."
"Vampries?"
"No, Angels. I always thought that they were among us watching us and protecting us. Now I know that's true. So answer me why are you here?"
"I don't know. I just know that I was supposed to go to Lucy and she was to lead me to my destiny."
"Hmm, so what could Rafe's destiny be?"
"I haven't a clue."
"Maybe I could help. I'm good at finding stuff out."
"Obviously, no one else would have suspected what I am."
"Oh and, Rafe."
"What?"
"Thanks for saving my life. I owe you one."
"Really?"
"Yeah, so that's why you and I are going to find out what your destiny is."
