The Prophecy
by Kristina Powell

On the edge of the Disenchanted Forest there lived a young girl that was around the age of twenty-one. She did not know her exact age because her father, a half wolf former guard in the House of White, never told her her real age, so she just went with that she was twenty-one and she was usually happy.

One day she could not get it out of her mind that something was wrong and her little country life was going to change. She already knew that the half wolf was not her real father because he was a half wolf and she was a pure human. That did not bother her; she loved him and he even gave her her name - he'd named her Silver. He always told her that the reason why he named her that was because silver does not try and be flashy like gold but in its way is very beautiful and strong. She always loved it when the old wolf would brush her hair when she was a little girl. She had long curly blond hair and dazzling blue eyes.

Lately the old wolf had become very edgy, ever since they had heard of the trouble with the evil queen and the crowning of King Wendell. Silver had met the prince several times in the past when the wolf was still in the service of King and Queen White and would take her to the palace. She cried the day that the wolf told her that the king and the queen had died - she felt a strange bond with them, especially the queen. She was like a mother to Silver.

At the palace the newly crowned King Wendell was sitting in his study (actually his grandmother's old bedroom). He felt comfortable in this room, like she was watching over him. Wendell was looking at some of Snow White's old books and belongings and came across a book which, on the front of it, said, "The Future of the Kingdoms." Wendell scoffed but was very interested in this book - it was a book of prophecies of old. He then noticed that his grandmother had not read the entire book but had stopped at a certin prophecy that read:

A great king and a great queen
shall be born as two
the great king to the south
the queen to the north
they shall make the kingdoms one once again

Wendell thought this was extraordinary that a king and queen could be born as two. It confused him, and he decided to ask his friends when they returned from the Tenth Kingdom.

Wolf and Virginia were coming to visit Wendell. It had been only a week or two but they missed him and Virginia's father. They had created a very strong bond much like family would. Wendell was very excited and was really looking forward to their visit but he still could not figure out what that prophecy had meant by 'born as two.' He had asked all of his servants and his advisers; he even went as far as to ask Tony, but still no one could tell him what it meant. He already knew that it could not mean him because he was the only child that his parents had before they died. He really had to figure out this thing or it would haunt him forever - he hated it when that happened.

Wendell was once again in his grandmother's old chambers and was trying to think of what being 'born as two' could mean. He then noticed that he was pacing and he was also talking to himself. He was very happy that no servants came into the room - he had ordered them all to stay away from it; he wanted it to be left alone just as Snow White had left it. Shortly afterwards he fell asleep on the couch. He had not been able to sleep because of that prophecy and he was very tired.

In his dream he was in a white chamber with ice and water running; also there, in the center of the room, was a small hill. He read the words to the prophecy again and heard his grandmother calling him the way a grandmother calls her frightened grandchild. She told him not to worry about the prophecy and that all would soon be all right. With that, Wendell awoke on the couch.

Silver was in her little house on the edge of the forest. The old wolf would soon be home and she had to finish supper. She know how he loved to eat fresh lamb so she had been roasting it over an open flame all day. She had also made some vegetables to go with the lamb but she know that he probably would not eat many of them. That didn't bother her, though; she loved lamb, and she loved to see that look that the old wolf got on his face when she sat that big plate of chops in front of him - it made her laugh every time.

That night after silver and her Father Wolf (as she called him) finished eating, he had told her they were going to go on a trip in a fortnight to the Castle of White so he could speak with Lord Wolf about things.

It was almost the day that Silver and Father Wolf would be setting off for the castle so that the old wolf could speak with Lord Wolf. She was very excited because she had not been to the castle since she was young, before the queen died.

Father Wolf had even bought her some new fabric so she could make a new dress for the occasion - it was the most beautiful dark blue that it looked almost like the night sky. Father Wolf always knew what colors she would look good in. It sometimes made her laugh because he was for one, a wolf, and she had heard that wolves didn't like beauty, and for the other, he was a man, which meant he had no taste for fancy clothes, but she know differently. He had been mother and father to her since she could remember. She loved Father Wolf as much as a daughter could a father, and she laughed at people that said that wolves were evil animals that would sooner bite you than look at you. Father Wolf had told her that they would stop at the town near the castle so Silver could change into her dress.

Wendell was now still confused about that prophecy - not the whole thing, just the part about 'born as two.' He had lost a lot of sleep about it but he tried to stop worrying about it. After all, if his grandmother told him he should stop worrying about it, shouldn't he? Wendell soon noticed that once again he was talking out loud to himself but this time he was in the dining hall with some dignitaries from who knew where, so he was getting some pretty odd looks from the people. After all it wasn't every day that you heard the king speaking to himself.
He decided to try and put that prophecy in the back of his mind and get some sleep. He had a very fitful sleep - he dreamt that he was running from something and yelling for someone to help and he was lifted up onto the back of a stallion by someone he whose face he could not see but with whom he felt safe. Then he was back at the castle with his mother and father watching him play in the throne room laughing and carrying on. Then he saw his parents choking but he could not help them - he was yelling for help but no one could hear him.

Wendell woke up at this point. He had that dream all of the time. It frightened him - it was almost how they had really died, but not quite. Some day he would figure out what that dream meant, but not today because Virginia and Wolf were coming in about an hour and then he would ask them if they understood the prophecy, though he really doubted it.

Silver was packing a few things for their trip. They would still need to take some food and things even though it would only take them about a day and a half to get to the castle. Father Wolf almost looked as though the years had melted away; he was bounding around and happy. He was only like this every so often - only when they were going somewhere. Silver knew that he hated staying in that little cottage but he did for her. He called her his little cub sometimes and that made her happy. Father wolf had just gotten the horse ready to go. He would walk and Silver would ride the little horse just as it had always been, and so was again. When Silver had gotten onto the horse, Father Wolf gave her his biggest wolfy grin and they were off to the castle.

Wendell had just gotten to sleep and for once was not having that horrible dream of his parents, but was rudely awakened by a sudden crash in the hallway near the mirror room. He reluctantly got up to see what the commotion was all about. When he did he just had to laugh - there in front of the mirror room was his best friend Tony and Wolf both spread out on the floor and then Virginia was standing in the door way trying to stifle a giggle. When Wendell asked what had happened, Virginia told him that they had decided to come back a half an hour early and Wolf smelled food and came running out of the room to find the food and dad was coming the other way not paying attention and smash they ran into each other. Wendell was happy to have some distraction in the palace. He would ask Wolf if he could figure out the prophecy but until then they decided that they really should get Wolf and Tony off of the floor and make sure that they were both all right. It was a very funny sight for the servants to see their king trying to help Tony to his feet.

Finally both victims were awake and grumbling at each other because of the headaches that they had. Wendell then mentioned that lunch should be almost ready and with that, Wolf was off to the dining room for some food. Even if he did have a headache, he still was hungry.

Father Wolf had decided that they should stop and eat soon because the food in Silver's bag was making him really hungry. Even if he really did want to try and make it through the forest by night fall, he didn't want Silver trying to spend the night in the Disenchanted Forest even if the Huntsman had been killed; he didn't care. Silver was just happy to be out of the cottage for once. She was only able to go to the nearest town every one or two weeks because it was a very long hike. They had only been on the path for about three or four hours at best, and she knew that Father wolf would be getting hungry, so she made up an excuse to stop and when they did she handed him a bacon sandwich that she had made just for him with extra bacon on it. Silver decided that she was not really that hungry and she could eat on the go, so she tended the horse and found a comfortable looking spot to take a short nap. She had the strangest dream - she dreamt that she was in the forest and was watching a small boy with curly blond hair playing and then he started to run. Something had scared him, but he was saved by a man on a large pure black horse. She could not see the man's face but the young boy seemed to be safe. Then Silver woke up. She had been asleep for almost a hour and Father Wolf was yelling for her to get up and that it was time to get moving again. She knew that Father Wolf knew best.

Wendell was walking in his garden when he heard a voice calling him. He then remembered that Virginia had not gone with Wolf when he went to the town for something. Virginia ran up to him and gave him a really big hug. Wendell asked her what that was for and she simply told him that she missed him and that she had not been able to talk with him since they had arrived. So Wendell and Virginia sat in the garden talking like best friends - they talked about everything except the prophecy. Virginia noticed something wrong with her step-brother and asked him what was wrong. He told her simply that he was confused by a old prophecy that he had found in Snow White's room and that he has asked everyone if they know what it meant. He added that he even asked Tony. This made Virginia laugh and Wendell was happy that his only family was happy. Virginia wanted to see Snow White's room so much, so Wendell took her to his favorite place. She thought that the room was beautiful - simple but beautiful. It really looked like a room that Snow White would have. Wendell told her that if she ever needed to think, this was the perfect place to do so - even Wolf would find it relaxing, and that would take a lot of work. They once again sat and talked some more.

Virginia took this time to tell Wendy that he was going to be an uncle and he grinned from ear to ear he even laughed and congratulated her on the baby. He, of course, also asked her when Wolf and she were going to get married and Virginia told him that that was the reason why Wolf had gone into the village - so she could tell him that she wanted the wedding in the palace and Wendell would be the best man along with prince as the groomsmen, or the grooms dog as the case may be. The king laughed at the thought of the golden retreaver walking down the aisle with a bow on his neck. Then Wendell snaped out of it and told Virginia that they should go to the seamstress right then. Wendell did not think of the prophecy the entire time he spent with Virginia. Wolf was right when he said that she was a distraction. Wendell welcomed the distraction - he needed to get his mind back into working order and forget the prophecy.

Only after the entire day was over and the sun was going down did Wendell remember he wanted to speak with Wolf for two reasons: one, the baby and the wedding, but the other, of course the prophecy. Maybe Wolf could shed some light on the subject.

Silver and Father Wolf had just arrived in the capital city of the the Fourth Kingdom. It would be getting dark soon so Father Wolf decided that it would be better if they just waited and went to the palace the next day. Until then they would go and explore the capital a little, seeing as they had not been to the capital since Silver was four and Father Wolf had retired from the service of Queen Snow White.

As they walked the streets of the town, Father Wolf told Silver stories of when he was living in the town and working as the Captain of the Guard at the palace. A lot of his stories made Silver laugh, like the one when he was caught stealing bacon out of the kitchen and had to charm himself out of trouble with the cook. The stories amazed Silver because she had never known that Father Wolf was such a troublemaker when he was her age, and also because of how much trouble he avoided using those wolfy charms of his. He gave her that big wolfie grin that he always got when he was telling her stories. It also made him sad that he had never taken a mate and had a bunch of troublemaker cubs. Silver told him that he already had one cub - even though she was not his cub through blood, he was her father in her heart and nothing could ever change that. She would always and forever be his little girl. This made Father Wolf happy because he had always thought of her as his own little cub and his little girl. They decided that they really should get back to the inn and get some sleep because the next day they would be seeing the king and must look their best.

After Wendell had finished some of his kingly duties (which he found very boring) he went off to find Wolf and see if the half wolf could shed a little light on the subject of the prophecy. Though Wendell knew that Wolf would probably be with Virginia telling her about the capital city, Wendell just had to find out about the prophecy. It really was driving him crazy - he was pacing, talking to himself, and was losing sleep over it. It just would not leave him alone. When he got to where Virginia was, he asked her if Wolf had returned yet. She told him that Wolf should be back very shortly; that he had decided to stop for a bite to eat with Dad. Wendell just wanted to get that stupid prophecy figured out so he could get back to his normal routine, but if Wolf was not around, he would just have to wait he had waited this long, he could wait just a little longer.

Wolf and Tony were in the capital city. Tony already knew that Wolf and Virginia were going to get married and that they were having a cub. It actually made Tony happy he would soon be a grandpa and would be able to spoil that kid rotten - he did have a really good job now. Tony was also happy that Virginia was happy and Wolf didn't seem that bad once got to know him; he was just a little high strung, that was all.

They had left the palace so that Virginia could talk to Wendell alone about the baby and the wedding. Tony hoped that Wendell was able to put that prophecy behind him. It was even driving Tony crazy because Wendell was just too concentrated on finding out about the prophecy. Tony hated things confusing the young king - that was Tony's job.

While in town they decided that they would pick up some gifts for every one. They found a necklace for Virginia, an ink well and pen for Wendell, and of course they bought a box of biscits for prince just so that he wouldn't feel left out. Wolf also bought a simple gold band ring for Virginia so the wedding band would not be so extravagant that the singing ring would get jealous. Being two of the Heros that saved the Kingdoms, they were given a discount on all of the stuff. In fact, the jeweler gave Wolf a second gold ring for himself if Wolf promised always to come to his shop first when purcasing rings. Wolf agreed and left the shop on the way back to the palace. Wolf was getting really hungry from being out all day with Tony and decided to stop at a tavern and get a bite to eat before heading back and as they were not far from the palace, Tony sent the carrage on ahead with instructions to tell Lady Virginia that they were stopping for a bite to eat and should be back in a short time.

As luck would have it, at that same time Silver and Father Wolf were at the same tavern getting something to eat and having a lot of trouble getting some service. As Wolf walked through the tavern door he smelled a sent that he had not smelled since he was a cub. He remembered his father's old friend very well because it had been that friend that had taken him and healed his feet after he had run to try and save his father in the fire. It had also been this old friend that had taken him to his aunt's home to be cared for until he was old enough to roam free. Wolf looked around the room looking for the face of that man and saw him sitting in the corner with a very beautiful girl, looking as though he was beginning to get angry until wolf noticed the man lift his face and sniff the air. The old wolf found the sent and came running towards Wolf, arms open, and they embraced like a father would his son coming home from a long journey. Tony lifted a questioning eyebrow at the two of them smiling at each other in complete silence. When the silence was broken, it was by the young girl that he had been sitting with. She asked Father Wolf who his obvious friend was. When she was finally introduced to the young man, she smiled at him and told him that they would be honored if he and his friend would join them though they could not get the waitress to pay attention to them.

This outraged both Wolf and Tony. They asked to be excused for a moment, went up to the bar and asked to see the owner of the establishment. When the old gentleman came out and saw them, he was excited but not for long because Wolf said that if they did not start treating all of the customers with respect he personally would see to it that the tavern was shut down and the man's license would be taken away and never returned. Of course, the man agreed and asked Wolf what they wished to be served - everything was on the house trying to get back in the graces of two of the king's friends. Of course, Wolf told him that they would have four servings of fresh lamb, a mug of beer, and a pitcher of milk, and maybe a glass of the finest wine that he hadfor the young lady. This was proving to be a very good day for Wolf - well other then the collision in the hall outside of the mirror room. His head still was a little sore from that - Tony definitely had a hard head.

Time passed as though they had only been sitting there for a few moments. Wolf and Father Wolf had been telling tales of what it was like in the old days in the Second Kingdom. Tony and Silver laughed at the two hybrids and their stories. A few of the tales were not funny at all. Father Wolf told them all of his parents and how his father had been shot with an arrow for poaching in the winter when there was little food. It made Silver, Tony and even Wolf, though he had heard the story so many times, cry. They sat at their table in complete silence until Wolf finally looked up, noticed that it was dark and yelled "Cripes!" and that Virginia was going to kill him if he didn't get back to the palace a/s/a/p. He then rushed out of the tavern full force - even running into a man on the sidewalk. Tony, a little worried about his future son-in-law, chased after him into the street and he, too, saw how late it was. He groaned that Virginia and Wendell would be so worried about them. Tony and Wolf both told Father Wolf and Silver about them being late getting back to the castle, and that Virginia and the king would be worried. Father Wolf told them that they would be coming to the palace in the morning. Wolf was very anxious to return to the palace fast but still told Father Wolf that he would see them then and he bowed respecfully to Father Wolf who, after all, was still an elder wolf and deserved the respect. Tony, in turn, told them that he would inform the palace gaurd that they would be coming and said his goodbyes.

Wendell was still wide awake, but not from worry of the whereabouts of Wolf and Tony. Wendell knew that they could take care of themselves. What he was worried about was still not being able to figure out the prophecy. He even considered contacting the evil queen's magic mirrors to try and get it figured out, but Wendell decided that it really would not be for the best to do that, you never knew what might happen. He decided to think of his adventure with his new friends - actually he considered them more of a family. It seemed like a lifetime ago that he was a snobby stuck-up spoiled prince. Now he was a king that could not unscramble a silly little prophecy that probably had nothing to do with him. But one could never be too careful, one of his many lessons that he learned on his travels though his and other kingdoms. He almost could not believe that it took getting turned into a dog to make him see that he worked for his subjects just as much as his subjects worked for him, and also that his subjects were not common after all, but strong and hardworking folks that deserved respect.

Wendell really started to think about his old companions and how each of them had a lesson to learn on their journey. Tony had to learn that he was not a failure at everything and he was useful to people. Virginia had to learn how to love and be loved. Wolf had to learn that he could be a good person and that he was not the filthy animal as he thought he was.

Wendell thought about his step-sister and how strong she was, and how she had such a wild spirit that was part of her that only wolf could even come close to taming it. Of course Wolf was just as wild and strong as Virginia; they really did make a good couple. With that last thought Wendell fell asleep.

Once again he was in the forest, only six or seven. Something scared him and, as always, he ran and was saved by the large stallion. Everything was the same except something was different, but before he could figure out what it was, that part of the dream was over. Wendell knew what was coming next and willed himself to wake up. He did not want to dream that part again.

After Wolf and Tony had left for the palace, Silver and Father Wolf went back to the inn where they had gotten a room. Silver finally asked Father Wolf how he had met Wolf because Wolf really did not look that much older then her. Father Wolf told her the tale that he and Wolf's father Warren had grown up together in the forest of the Second Kingdom. When Warren meet Wolf's mother Crystal, he had been very happy for them and he decided that he would travel the kingdoms. He got news when he had was traveling through the Fourth Kingdom that Snow White needed some good guards and he applied and was made a royal gaurd. He went to the Second Kingdom often with Snow and he would visit Warren and Crystal and their four cubs. Father Wolf was named the godfather and had to swear to Crystal and Warren that he would take the children to their aunt's home if any thing happened to them. When wolf was around the age of five, Silver had come to live with him and he would leave her with some very close friends so he could visit the small family. When Wolf was ten, Father Wolf was going to visit them and was almost to the small cottage when he smelled smoke. He hid in the trees and saw Warren and Crystal on their knees and a small cub that Father Wolf recognized as baby Rebbeka on the ground. She had been knocked unconscious, but he did not see Wolf, Grey, or even Copper. He then saw that they were starting to light the pyre. That was when he saw the small boy that he recognized as Wolf trying to get his parents out of the flames. Father Wolf ran and dragged Wolf out of the flames. He then asked the villagers if the young cub was to be killed as well - they told him yes, but he told them that if they did not hand over the baby he would get the queen Snow White into this. They did hand over the little girl; she was alive, but barely. Father Wolf took all of the children, tended Wolf's feet and Rebbeka, and then took them to their Aunt Rose to live.

Some of the parts of that story made Silver cry some more, but she had never seen that look on her Father Wolf's face before now when he was talking about his old friend. They sat there in complete silence until Father Wolf told Silver that they should get some sleep. They were going to see King Wendell in the morning so she must look her best.

Father Wolf sat in the room listening to Silver's gentle breathing. He could not sleep; he was thinking of all of the things he had been through and seen in his lifetime. He was a half wolf who had a human daughter, he had been made the captain of the gaurd when he was only around the age of Wolf. He sometimes wondered why he had never chosen a mate. Maybe he truly was destined to care for Silver. He still could remember when he first tried to feed her a bottle or when he first had to answer the question of where babies come from. Boy did that question scare him. He'd told her that fairies brought babies to their parents with magic - it made her laugh and sometimes it made him laugh too. He wondered what he was going to do when he no longer had to care for Silver but he stopped himself. He was not going to think of that - not yet anyway.

Wendell had finally gotten a little peaceful rest, but still woke up at the same time that he did every morning since he was little. He went downstairs to get a little breakfast before everyone else woke up. But he was a little too late, for there, in his normal seat, sat Wolf. Wendell noted that this was just like breakfast at a normal family's house - the first one down to breakfast gets all that he or she can eat. But of course this was no ordinary family. He was a king that was turned into a dog by his evil step-mother. His step-sister, the daughter of the evil queen, was from the Tenth Kingdom. Her fiance was a half wolf that betrayed the evil queen to save the whole of the nine kingdoms. And then there was Tony, who was like a father to them all and was married to the evil queen. Wendell had to laugh at his future brother-in-law, who had yet to notice Wendell's arrival in to the room. Wolf had a piece of bacon sticking out of the side of his mouth like he was sucking on it, savoring the flavor. Then it dawned on Wendell that was probably exactly what he was doing. Then Wendell also noticed that neither he nor Wolf had changed in to regular clothes; they were both still in their pajamas and Wolf's tail was free and wagging about. Wendell did not sit at his usual spot in the dining room but instead sat next to Wolf. He and Wolf spoke about many things, like the wedding, the baby, or cub as wolf called it, Wolf's family, and then Wendell asked Wolf if he knew anything about prophecies. Wolf told him a little. But when Wendell asked him about the exact prophecy, Wolf told him that he had heard it before but knew very little about it or what it meant.

Before Wolf left, he remembered and told Wendell that a half wolf that most just called Father Wolf, and his foundling daughter Silver were going to be coming to visit. Wendell told Wolf that he indeed had met them before and they would be most welcome to stay at his palace for a while.

When Father Wolf finally got up out of bed it was already way past the time that he usually ate breakfast, so he was starving. He had been thinking of Silver when she was still wearing pig-tails in her hair and skipping rope for so long that he had not even noticed that she was no longer in the room. He figured that she went out to get some breakfast and would be back soon. He decided that he should take this time to get ready to go to the palace. He took out his old uniform that he wore when he was Captain of the Guard. He dressed himself and washed up with the wash water that Silver had brought in for him before she left. When he was finished he looked at himself in the mirror and saw that he was getting a little grey hair but he did not care. He began to sort his things so that they could leave soon after Silver got back from getting breakfast. He pulled out an old wooden box from under his bed. Inside was a deep purple velvet bag. He looked at the contents of the bag and sighed, then he slipped them back into the bag and stuck the bag back into the box when he heard and smelled Silver coming back. She had brought him three large bacon sandwiches and a cup of milk from the tavern that they had eaten at the night before. She told him that the owner tried to give her the food but she paid for it anyway. Silver told him that he really looked very handsome in the uniform. Shortly after Father Wolf finished his last sandwich Silver asked when they would be leaving for the palace. Father Wolf told her to be patient and that they would be leaving shortly.

When Wolf and Tony finally got back to the palace, Wendell and Virginia were already in their bed chambers, so they really had not been too worried about the two wayward wanderers. Tony and Wolf said their goodnights and slipped into their rooms - Wolf into the room that he shared with his beautiful and wonderful mate Virginia. As he lay there beside her sleeping form he could not help but think of his cub and how it was going to be such a joy. Then he began thinking of his family, especially his siblings - his brother Copper was getting so strong that he could almost beat Wolf in the wrestling matches they would have in the grass. Wolf thought about how his little baby sister Rebbeka was becoming so beautiful, almost as beautiful as their mother. And his other brother Grey was so kind to all of the creatures in the forest and to humans alike. Wolf decided then and there he was going to write them all in the morning. Maybe they had families that he had no idea about. Wolf thought about the day his parents died and Father Wolf was right there to help them. Of course he had used Snow as a threat to those guys - Wolf knew that if Snow White's trusted captain told her that some villagers killed a little baby no more than two, Snow would have been very angry and of course Red did owe her a favor, as Father Wolf had told him.

He should not have left Auntie Rose's home so early. Of course if he had not, he would have never ended up in that sheep pen and been sent to the prison where he met the evil queen and then found his mate. With the thought of Virginia in his head, her body warm beside him, and her scent filling his nose, Wolf rolled over and drifted off into a peaceful sleep as he always did with her so close.

Silver stood by the mirror trying to get the knots that had infested her hair when she was asleep out. She was thinking of when Father Wolf would take her to the palace when she was very young and she would play with Prince Wendell or would sit on the king's knee and listen to stories of Snow White, Cinderella, and all of the great women of history. She could even remember the smell of the queen when she would let Silver help her get dressed in the morning. The queen always said that she wished she had a daughter like Silver. As Silver stood there she began singing a little lulluby that she could not remember ever hearing before:

Hush my darling child
Sleep my little baby
do not cry I will be
right by your side
when you wake do not fear
for I will be right here

Silver sang the little song and finished her hair. She could hear Father Wolf stirring behind her. Little did she know that Father Wolf had been awake for a half an hour just watching her brush her hair. He had heard the lulluby before; actually, he heard it the day he had come to care for Silver when she was a baby. As he watched her he could hardly believe how beautiful his little girl had become. And how beautiful she looked in that dark blue dress with the gems stuck on it. His little girl was all grown up and would soon be leaving him. These thoughts made him a little sad because no father wants to see his little girl leave. But it also made him proud that she could handle life on her own and that meant he did his job right, in the way that she deserved to be raised.

When Virginia woke up she was surprised to find that Wolf was already gone. She could not remember a time after they had become engaged that he would miss a chance to wake her with a kiss and escort her down to breakfast. Then she thought of something - the cook owed Wolf his life also and the cook knew that wolfies could not resist bacon. So Wolf probably would not return until he had eaten all of the bacon set in front of him and maybe some of Wendy's also. She laughed when she remembered the look on Wolf's face when he was cooking in the forest on their first adventure. Of course every day with Wolf was an adventure. She then remembered that silly song he sang when he was eating bacon sandwiches. She almost could not believe that such a handsome man with such passion for life would be in love with her. Virginia knew that Wolf would never leave her for a prettier girl because in Wolf's eyes she was the only girl that mattered in the Ten Kingdoms.

As Virginia was thinking, Wolf snuck into the room and threw his arms around her waist in a giant wolfie bear hug and kissed her neck. Virginia had to giggle because his ever present stubble tickled her delicate skin. She turned around and gave him he good morning kiss and called him a goof ball. Wolf gave her that little growl of his and told her that they should play hide and seek that night or go camping. Virginia told him maybe and asked how that bacon was. Wolf gave her an innocent look and told her that it was delicious and also that it was cooked just right. He also told her that he was sorry for not being around when she woke up but he had got to talking to Wendell and lost track of time. Wolf then, in a very sheepish manner, asked Virginia if it was alright with her if he invited his family and friends to the wedding. Virginia had to laugh at that little face that he was giving her and told him that he could invite any one he wanted that it was his wedding also and it would be great to see his family at their wedding. Of course he had to do one thing for her if she let him and that was to tell her about his side of the family so she could tell their cub about them. This made Wolf get that big smile that he used only when he was very happy and went about telling Virginia about his two younger brothers and his little baby sister who was only ten when he left home and how he hadn't seen any of them since. Then Virginia told him that she now knew who else was going to be in their wedding party. Wolf gave her a confused look and she told him that she needed to have at least one bridesmaid and they needed ushers and such, plus Wolf's brothers could be grooms men. Just the thought of seeing his little siblings got Wolf even more happy and he scooped Virginia up still in her nightgown and carried her down to the dining room to tell Wendell. But when they got there Wendell had his head down on the table asleep and he was wimpering a little.

The scene of their dear friend sleeping at the breakfast table alarmed both Wolf and Virginia. They could not think of a reason why he would have fallen asleep at the table. As they got a little closer to their sleeping friend Wolf could smell a slight scent of bubble gum. He knew the only thing that smelled like bubble gum was troll dust. But Wolf could not smell any trolls around so they could not have put it in the cup that Wendell was holding. Wolf then caught the scent of something else other than troll dust. Someone had put something smelling of vanilla into the drink. Wolf pandered for a second what the vanilla scent could be and remembered being told by an old wise wolf of a thing that smelled like vanilla which was called Jennifer Rose. Virginia asked him who Jennifer Rose was and Wolf realized he was talking out loud.

Wolf told Virginia the story - he told her that the Jennifer Rose was very beautiful and one of a kind. He asked her if she remembered the story of Rupunzel and the witch that locked her in the tower. Virginia did remember and Wolf went on to tell her that the witch had a sister whose name was Jennifer. She was a good witch and grew roses. Her favorite rose was the one that grew on a small hill at the edge of her land. She put a spell on the bush so that it would forever bloom and it would have a special power. She gave the rose the ability to calm a person's mind but only temporarily - about one or two hours. He also told her that no magic comes without consequences, and the magic of the rose bush was that if someone took too much it would be deadly. But by the looks of Wendell he was still alive, just fast asleep so they hoped he would stay alive. They both wondered who would want to make Wendell fall asleep and why the Jennifer Rose. Wolf could only think of two people that could have put the stuff into the king's drink - the cook and the serving girl that always brought Wendell his drink in the morning. First they would take Wendell and put him back into bed then go find the cook.

Wendell was dreaming. He dreamt that he was around six; he knew this day from memory - he was watching one of his fondest memories unfold in front of him again. It was his birthday and his parents were throwing him his first ball. All of the other royal children were there, though all of them were much older then him he was the youngest. He saw Little Red in the corner - she was as always flirting with one of the knights that were present. She was around fourteen and was wearing a red cape with a hood like always. He noticed the naked emperor's son watching all of the festivities. He was about eighteen and wearing a very handsome blue suit. He hadn't gotten to the state of his father where he would wear nothing. Wendell never under stood that man - how he could walk around in public without any clothes on was beyond him. Wendell then heard the common sound of the man banging his staff against the floor and yelling. Wendell, as a little kid, found this man really annoying. But he knew who was coming - the man yelled out that the Queen Mother Snow White had arrived.

Young Wendell ran over and gave his grandmother a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. Snow remained by the side of her little grandson, when the man yelled again this time announcing Wendell's other grandmother, Cinderella, had arrived. Wendell gave her the same welcome as he had Snow but gave her an extra kiss because he did not get to see her every day like he did Snow White. Snow White and Cinderella wandered off to talk about old times, their grandchild, and their children. The man began yelling again and young Wendell was excited because the man yelled this time that King Christopher and Queen Alexandra White were coming. As Wendell watched the scene of his mother and father he began to really miss them - he had not thought of them in so long. When they were alive he had never noticed how beautiful his mother really was - even if she was not in those fancy clothes she would have been one of the most beautiful women in all of the Nine Kingdoms. He took notice now of how beautiful her eyes were - a dark blue that if you looked close enough into them, one could see the night sky. He saw now that his parents were so much in love, a lot like his now step-sister and Wolf. His father was handsome, brave and true; a good king. Wendell could only hope to be like him some day. Then Wendell noticed the young girl at the bottom of the steps in a simple party dress. She was looking up at his mother with such love in her deep blue eyes, Wendell could almost not believe it. The dream ended with his mother and father tucking him into bed asking him if he had a good time, then telling him that he had a new nanny that would arrive in two days. Her name was Christine. Wendell then drifted into a dreamless sleep.

Wolf was running to find the cook to get an explanation of why the stuff was put into the king's drink. They had already talked to the serving girl and she told them that the cook would probably know. They found the cook in the kitchen cleaning up the pots and pans of breakfast. He looked very lost in thought and when he spotted Wolf and Virginia in the kitchen, he knew they knew he had put something into the king's cup. Before they could even ask, he told them that he was ordered to put it into the cup. Then before they could ask him why or who, he told them: While he was sleeping, Snow white and the king and queen visited him in a dream. They told him to take the Jennifer Rose sample in the library and the left over Troll dust from Wendell's coronation stored in the pantry, and put it into his drink at breakfast. They told him to only put three drops of the strange dark purple liquid into the drink, no more, and a pinch of the pink powder into the drink so Wendell would sleep and not be troubled. So he did as they had told him and that brought the tale to an end. The worry that was in Virginia's eyes softened because she knew they would not do any thing to harm the king and she forgave the cook - at least he told them the truth, that he had done it.

As Silver was riding the horse, her long hair was flowing and bouncing behind her. She had been out getting Father Wolf some breakfast when a old elf told her she should wear her hair down and flowing instead of in a bun. The nice old elf fixed her hair and gave her some slippers to go with the dress. Silver felt almost like a princess. The stable boy even polished up the saddle so she would not hurt the dress with dirt. Silver was riding sidesaddle because of her dress; she wanted to look lady-like. Silver was hoping that Wendell was well; she really could not wait to see him again. Silver then began to notice that everyone was bowing to her as if she was someone special. Silver decided to just go along with it and just rode on.

They had left the inn a little after they had gotten re-packed and Father Wolf was carrying the pack and trying not to start growling at the boys that were whistling at Silver. He controlled himself and began thinking of what he was going to say - it had to be ironed out before they arrived at the palace. He knew it would be hard but he had to do it. Father Wolf did not want to think anymore about what was going to happen, so he began singing a wolfen lulluby that every little cub learns when in cubhood: "Sheperdess makes quite a mess but little lambs are lovely." He then fiqured that he was not going to be able to get the task he had to perform out of his mind, so he resorted to thinking about what to say. After he had that figured out he could relax a bit, but not too much; if he did, one of those boys might try something and he would have to bite them.

Wendell woke up. He felt as though he had slept for two days. Wolf came in and told him that he had been drugged with troll dust and some Jennifer Rose and he had been asleep for around two hours. Wendell noticed he did not have a headache like was usually associated with a drugging with troll dust. Wendell did feel a lot better, but was confused about how he got back to bed. Wolf then explained that he had carried him back and that he should lay off the cookies and tea. Wendell gave Wolf a dirty look and threw a pillow at him. After they both stopped laughing, Wolf reminded him of the visit of Father Wolf and Silver, so that Wendell could get ready to greet them. Virginia came in shortly after Wolf to inform Wendell that she had told some servents to ready two more guest rooms for their guests and Wendell thanked her.

Wendell really had been out of it but remembered that he had not had his usual dream. He told Wolf about not having his usual dream and they began talking about dreams. Wolf turned to Virginia and informed her that in the kingdoms they take dreams seriously, especially recurring ones. Virginia left the guys alone to see the seamstress about the dresses for the wedding that was scheduled to take place in four days.

Virginia chose a white dress that was low cut in the collar and had a long flowing skirt and flowing sleeves. For bridesmaid dresses she found a deep purple that was also low cut in the collar with a tight fitting corset that had a twin just like it.

After everything was finished with the dresses, Virginia remembered the letters that needed to be sent to Wolf's family. So she wandered off to find Wolf so he could tell her everyone that needed to be sent invitations. When she found him he was still talking to Wendell. She hated to interrupt but there was so much to do and less time to do it in. The moment Virginia mentioned the wedding, Wendell suggested that they divide up everything that still needed doing among the four of them once they found Tony, and they all agreed and set out to find Tony.

They each got assignments: Wendell would go see the seamstress about the suits for the guys, Wolf would go to the kitchens and talk to the chefs, Virginia would go speak with the people in the greenhouse, and Tony would try and find someone to perform the wedding. They all were so caught up in their tasks that when they heard the trumpets anouncing the arrival of Silver and Father Wolf they all were startled. Wolf was first to greet them because they had been shown into the dining hall and he was the closest to them. Virginia and Tony ran into each other on the way and were next to arrive; Father Wolf seconds later congratulated her. Wolf was beaming from ear to ear when he intruduced Father Wolf to his mate. Wendell was last to arrive in the dining hall but had run the entire way. After he caught his breath, he shook hands with Father Wolf and turned to greet Silver to his palace.

The moment he touched Silver's hand there was a strange sparkle. Everyone in the room was confused and looked around for an explanation. They all saw that Father Wolf was the only one in the room not startled by the spark. Wendell asked him if he could explain. Father Wolf cleared his throat and told the young king yes, but not in the dining room. Father Wolf told them all to follow him, they all obeyed the old wolf. As they all climbed the steps everyone was wondering were the wolf was taking them. When they finally stopped, Wendell exclaimed that the door was locked and the key lost. Father Wolf reached into the wooden box he carried, pulled out a key on a white ribbon, and unlocked the door to the room. The room that they all stood in seconds later held a large wooden bed, a vanity and a wardrobe full of dresses and girly stuff, which did not make any sense - how did all of the stuff get into the room if it was locked. Reading the question Father Wolf walked over and pushed on the book shelf and in its place was tunnel. Father Wolf, still silent, walked over and picked up the wooden box he had set on the bed, and handed it to Silver. Silver reluctantly opened the wooden box and the velvet bag inside of the box. She pulled out a blanket and a crown. On the edge of the blanket was embroidered a crest - Wendell recognized the crest; it was the crest of the House of White.

Wendell could not handle the silence anymore and he asked the old wolf what it was all about. Father Wolf cleared his throat again and announced that the blanket and the crown were Silver's, given to her the day of her birth. The key was given to him the same day that the room was locked so no one could enter the room until this day. And so Father Wolf began his tale:

On a day in early spring - it was a very special day that Father Wolf would not forget - he had been ordered to the chambers of the great queen Snow White for reasons he would soon find out. Moments after he entered the room he caught the salty smell of tears, and the scent was coming from the queen. He did not understand the reason why the queen would have to cry.

Snow White told him that she made a very hard and difficult decision - even harder on her son and daughter-in-law. She asked him if he had heard that Alex was in labor and would soon give birth to the heir to the throne. She went on to say that she had a vision that Alex would giver birth to a boy and a girl, but if the girl remained at the palace she would be in great danger. Snow White told him that if the vision came true he would be entrusted to take the little princess and raise her as a foundling child. But he could bring the little girl to the palace so her parents could see her grow until her sixth birthday - then he should not bring the girl back, until the fourteenth anniversary of Snow White's departure from the palace. Three hours later he was informed it had been twins and he was handed a little pink bundle. He fell in love at first sight.

Silver blushed a little. She was still cluching the little blanket and the crown; she could not believe what she was hearing. Wendell was just sitting there in a daze listening to the story. Questions were bubbling up inside but he had lost all words. Father Wolf went on to say that at the moment the little bundle was placed in his arms he gave it a name, the name of Silver because to him silver was more beautiful then gold. Snow White added to the name stating that she needed a royal name - her official name was to be Silver Nicole Alexandra White. Father wolf took the child and they lived happily in the city and the country later in time. With that, Father Wolf ended the story. He could tell that they all had questions and said he would answer as best he could. It was well into the night before everyone stopped asking Father Wolf questions. They all left Silver and Wendell alone, deciding they really had a lot to talk about.

For the first half an hour they both just sat there absorbing the tale that Father Wolf had just told them. Silver broke the silence by asking Wendell to tell her all about their parents. They talked till dawn and fell asleep in the chambers. When Wendell woke up he thought he might have dreamt the whole thing but he had proof it was real - Silver lay asleep on the bed. Wendell got up from the couch and went to his grandmother's chambers to think. Speaking out loud to no one, he asked why Silver had been taken. As if by cue, Father Wolf answered that Snow White had seen the coming of the evil queen. Wendell remembered that Christine had come to the palace on his sixth birthday. Father Wolf asked Wendell if he had any more questions and Wendell said yes and handed the old wolf the prophecy book. He asked if the old wolf knew anything about it. The old wolf nodded his head yes and would tell him if the king would promise one thing. Wendell said anything and Father Wolf said that Wendell had to watch out for Silver so she would not get into trouble. Wendell told Father Wolf that the only one that could acomplish that task was him, he would from now on be the privite guard to the princess Silver.

Father Wolf tried to supress a smile but lost the battle, so he just cleared his throat. He told Wendell that he had a private message for him from Snow White: Separated for Safety, Raised by Love, Reunited by Order, Rule with Wisdom, Kindness and Love. Then the old wolf told Wendell that the prophecy had a twin to it that said Silver Queen, Golden King once separate shall be joined by a member of whose race was once hated and feared, now respected. The young king could not believe that prophecy either, but did not speak. The old wolf went on and finally said that the prophecy Wendell had been worried about meant that the great king and queen are twins. Finally Wendell knew and accepted the answer to the problem, and went off to find Virginia and Wolf. He found them in his official study working on the invitations to the wedding that was only in three days. Wendell helped as best he could but fell asleep in his chair. Wolf carried him back to his chambers.

Two days later, the king woke up and remembered two things - first that he had a sister and second, that his step-sister's wedding was the next day. That day was spent working on wedding stuff and the next day Wendell met many of Wolf's family and greeted royals and noblity from everywhere in the kingdoms. The last person he saw was a young and beautiful girl with hair the color of a raven feather and eyes the color of emeralds. Wolf came up behind Wendell and looked to were Wendell was looking and saw the young girl and the two gentlemen that had joined her. Before Wendell knew it Wolf was dragging him over to meet them and he was introduced to Wolfs siblings, Rebbeka, Grey, and Copper.

Soon the wedding began. The hall had been decorated with white and purple flowers and ribbon; everything looked so beautiful. Wendell noticed that Wolf was trying not to bounce around but was not succeeding well. When Virginia came in, Wolf tried to keep his tongue inside his mouth especially in front of so many guests. Wendell did not notice much of the wedding exept the bridesmaids, Wolf's sister mainly, she looked so beautiful. He made a mental note to get at least one dance with the girl. The wedding went really fast and before they knew it, the couple were sharing their first kiss as husband and wife. Virginia had explained some customs in her world like the garter and the throwing of the bouquet. Silver caught the bouquet and the dwarf king caught the garter. Next came the banquet, a ten course meal with salad, soup, meats, vegatables, breads, and everything else being served. Wendell thought about how much his life had changed in the past two months. Wendell had cooked up a little surprise for his family - actually a suprise for Virginia and Silver.

As Silver stood at the reception ball, she thought of everything that had happened in the past few days. She had been reunited with her twin, learned about her parents, and now she had a step-sister. She was so deep in thought that she did not notice her brother walk up behind her. Wendell cleared his throat and it startled her. He asked her what she was thinking about and she told him the past few days. They talked for a couple of minutes and Wendell finally asked her if she would care to dance. Silver accepted because you should never decline such an offer even if it was coming from family. They began to dance but had not been dancing long before Virginia and Wolf danced up beside them and Wolf and Wendell swiched partners. The girls laughed at them. They were all now one big happy family and that was fine with every one of them.

Virginia asked Wendell if he was happy. Wendell responded with what did he have to be sad about? He was ruler of a good kingdom, had a beauiful sister and step-sister, and had two really good friends. Wendell, in turn, asked Virginia the same question. She said that she was the happiest that she had been her entire life - she had a handsome step-brother that was ruler of a good kingdom, her father, a handsome devoted husband, soon she would have a cub and she had two brother-in-laws and a sister-in-law. She mentioned them because she had noticed the way he looked at Rebbeka during the wedding.

They finished dancing and Wendell decided that it was time for the surpise. He told Wolf it was time and he ran off to find Tony. Wendell told Silver and Virginia to go up to the throne platform and wait for him, Wolf, and Tony, and they did as asked. Soon the room was quiet and Wendell began to speak.

He told the room that he had family and wanted to honor them. He placed a beautiful tiara on top of Virginia's head and placed a crown on Silver. He told the room that the crown placed on Silver's head and the tiara on Virginia's once belonged to Snow White. He gave Tony and Wolf medals that had the White family crest on them. After all of the clapping was done, Wendell decided to introduce Silver to some of the royals that he knew. First they spoke to Red and she drilled Silver on who did her hair and who chose the dress.

Silver then met Leaf Fall and her husband. They tried to avoid the Naked Emperor but could not - the man offered to introduce Wendell to his tailor. When they finally got away from him they both began to laugh, but it was cut short when they found Cinderella. To Silver she was still one of the most beautiful women in all of the kingdoms and she voiced her opinion. It made Cindrella smile and return the compliment by saying Silver looked as beautiful as her mother was at her age. When Silver and Wendell left Cinderella they did not have to go far until bumping into Queen Izabella. It was a great honor to have her at the palace, she was older than Cinderella and would soon pass her crown to her son. Silver noticed the Queen was like newly fallen snow - soft, beautiful and pure white.

The thing that caught Silver's attention, though, was her eyes - they were such a pale green. The queen was chatting with Wendell and told Silver that she must meet her son. The man that came to the side of the queen had to pry himself out of a meaningless conversation with some girl and welcomed the summon. When he got to the side of the queen he took Silver's breath away. Wendell recognized the look on Silver's face - it was the look Wolf got every time he looked at Virginia. Wendell had meet the prince once at the funeral of his ten older brothers who had been killed by some curse. Silver was watching the man at the side of the queen - he was tall and, unlike his mother, had black hair with a strip of white in it. The man's eyes almost took Silver's breath away again, they were such a pale blue that they were almost white. Izabella, noting the look in the young people's eyes, quickly introduced them. She told Silver that her son's name was Gavin and then she suggested that they go dance. With Silver taken care of, Wendell went off to get that dance with Rebbeka.

Silver and Gavin danced the whole night. Gavin told her of his ten older brothers and how they had died. He spoke of his impending coronation as King of the Eighth Kingdom. Silver spoke of the life she had led and how she had just been told she was a princess.

Wendell and Rebbeka danced as long as Silver and Gavin. They spoke about many things of family and life. Wolf and Virginia could not let go of each other except when Tony or Wolf's brothers wanted to dance with Virginia. The party did not end until noon the next day. When Wendell finally peeled himself out of the arms of Rebbeka, He saw that no one had gone home. He announced that guest rooms would be prepared for everyone so they could all rest before they departed for their kingdoms.

Gavin did not go straight to his room; he walked Silver to hers and asked if he could write her. She told him yes. Wolf's brothers did not wish to sleep so they just explored the palace. Red was flirting with a knight like she always did when she came to the palace. Wolf and Virginia decided to start their life together with a bath. Wendell could not sleep; he was thinking about the past few days again, and he also thought about the prophecy he had finally gotten figured out, and how with the way things were going Silver truely would be a queen in the north. Then his mind finally wandered into thinking of Rebbeka, and Wendell fell asleep with a smile on his face.
