BABIES
As I predicted, the babies were born on the 9th of August which means they are now 11 days old. Honey, the mum is protective but doesn't mind us having a peek. There are 13 babies. Their fur is growing and it seems that we have creams, tortoiseshells and blacks. I'll keep the site updated with more news on our tiny bundles of joy! You can now view the first pictures of the babie by clicking on this link.
Breeding

After months of waiting for the right time, I finally decided it was time to breed the hamsters! So, on Saturday the 19th of July, I put my long-haired cream male and my short-haired cream female into a large box in the evening. She wasn't in season that night so I tried again on the Sunday and she was! The male didn't really know what to do and unfortunately, didn't get the job done.I tried again four nights later and this time, the male just wasn't interested. I took him out and I made the decision to put my pet-shop bought 'ghost yellow' in instead. He had more of an idea what he was doing and he got the job done. The babies are due on the 9th and I'll let everyone know when they're born. Hopefully, I'll get some good photos.

New Fourth Hamster!

The new hamster was aquired at the Golcar Northern Hamster show. He is another long-haired syrian cream and is the son of a best-in-show hamster. He has been named Timon and is quite tame. Woohoo!! The picture to the left is Fudge.

My Story

Last September I bought a hamster after weeks of nagging my dad. Since then I have become a real hamster enthusiast

I went into the pet shop and looked at the hamsters and I decided that I wanted a Syrian male(the largest and most common hamster.) My brother keeps rats so he recommended I handle them first to decide which would be easiest to tame. The lady in the shop took the lid off the cage and began to remove some bedding. The hamsters soon woke up. I stroked some and they all turned over in submission. The lady then parted some more bedding. I saw a cream-coloured hamster curled up. I put my hand near him to stroke him. He was obviously shocked but I can remember the first time he looked at me as it was yesterday. As soon as he opened his eyes and took his first look at his prospective owner, I knew that he should be mine. I'm not really into the mushy kind of stuff but thats how I felt. Ichose the largest cage that I could afford and then the countdown to get home began before he could munch his way through the cardboard box.

My family now have three hamsters with the possibility of breeding on the cards.(I'm keeping my fingers crossed.) I've been to hamster shows with the Northern Hamster Club and won various prizes. And this is all because of my first hamster, Fudge who I love and care for very much
