Go Visa!

Here's the deal. If you don't know, I work at the Super Target in Rogers. One big thing that they always push us to do there is to get people to apply for Target Visa cards. I used to be really good at it. A year ago when we opened, I used to get at least one every day I worked, and a lot of the time more than one. There's constantly some sort of game going on there. Every time someone gets someone to apply, he or she (the person working, not the applicant) gets to participate in whichever game is going on that day. Most of the time we end up winning some sort of prize. I've won a lot of things such as bags of candy, 12 pack of pop, a cool Target coffee mug, a Target dog, and a few Target gift cards. <--(One time I got one for $14. That was awesome!)

Each Target store has a certain number of applications that it should be getting each year, according to the company I guess. So, we make goals. First a weekly goal is set, and then that number is divided into the seven days of the week. To give you an idea, the goal for one day is usually around 15. If a store does really well and gets a lot, the store does better because it's meeting its goal. Whenever one of us gets an application, it's a big deal to the store, especially the store manager and all those top level people. However, the Rogers SuperTarget is not doing as well as it would like. We rarely meet our goal. Usually the last I hear before I go home is that we have about 4 or 6 applications, which is not good. I understand this does not directly effect me (wait actually it does, because the manager told me how, but it's only because I could afford to buy one more pair of shoes in the long run or something), but everyone really wants to get people to apply.

Lately I have not been getting as many as I would like. Now, I'm lucky to get one about every three days I work. (But then again, that's still more than a lot of the cashiers get). When I get a Visa, it really does make my day, as dumb as that sounds. And if I get more than one a day, it's even better! Not getting one after working 8 hours is kind of depressing.

So, I want all of you who are reading this to do me a big favor. You have to be 18 to apply, so if you're not, which I'm assuming a lot of you are not, tell people you know who are 18 to apply, like... your parents!! Perfect! I know this is dumb but I'm serious. But, here's the thing. Don't just tell them to apply. Read through the benefits of the Visa card, and then one you have convinced them to make my day, they have to go to the ROGERS SuperTarget. Remember, not the one in Plymouth. Before they go, talk to me and find out when I'm working so I can be the one to get the credit for it. They would have to come at a time when I'm working. Or, you can just tell me all the information I need for them to apply, and then I can bring it into work next time I work (which would be soon) and I can do it that way.

Benefits of the Target Visa card

-Upon approval of the Target Visa, you will receive a 10% off coupon for one purchase at Target. To use the 10%, the purchase must be put on the Target Visa.

-Target Visa can be used anywhere Visa is accepted- even at WalMart!

-Every time you use your Target Visa at any Target store or at Target.com, you will earn one point for every dollar that you spend. Any time you use it anywhere else, you will earn one point for every two dollars that you spend. Once you have reached one thousand points, you will receive by mail a 10% off coupon good for one FULL DAY at Target rather than on just one purchase. Then, you start over and keep earning more points.

-Target will donate one percent of all your Target Visa purchases made at Target to any K-12 school of your choice anywhere in the country. Target donates one half percent of purchases made with the Target Visa anywhere outside of Target to the school.

-You get to choose the color! Silver or red! Both do the same thing.

-Every time you use your Target Visa, you can walk right over to the Guest Service desk at Target and pay off your balance with cash or a check. This way, if you don't want another credit card, you can always use the Visa, pay it off, and you still earned points for pretty much just paying in cash!

-No annual fee.

The Target Guest Card

Your parents might say they already have a Target card, but they might just have the Target Guest card, which is much older than the Target Visa and does not have as many benefits. The Target Guest card does not earn you points, and you can only use it at Target. The interest rate on the Guest card is 21%, but the Visa's interest rate is from 9.9-18.9%.

An Inspirational Target Visa Story

One day I was working, and I asked this man and this lady if they wanted to apply for a Target Visa. The man was extremely nice, but he politely refused my offer. I asked him if I could tell him about the benefits of the Target Visa, and he listened. After I was finished, he thanked me and told me he would do it another day. Then he asked me how many times I hear people say no. I told him I hear it all the time. Then he asked me how many people had signed up that day from me (I was standing at the thing by the door), and I told him no one had signed up and I had been standing there forever (I forget how many hours had gone by. It was a long time ago) bored out of my mind. Well, the man and the lady said goodbye to me and walked happily out the door without a Target Visa. A long time later, I'd say a few months, my eight and a half hour shift was coming to and end, and I turned my light off at the front of my lane. Two people came through, and I was frustrated because I had just turned my light off, but I let them come anyway just to be nice. The total of their purchase was around $40, and then the man said to me, "We want to apply for one of those cards." I was shocked. The man explained to me that they had been waiting to apply until they saw me at the store again since I was the one who told him all about the card. This was the same man and the same lady I had talked to before. Even though their total was small to save 10% on, (you know, you can use it any time. You don't have to right away) they still applied because they remembered me. If I would have shut my light off even a minute earlier, I would not have gotten a Visa that day, and that man totally made my night!

Thanks for reading this. I know you're probably thinking I'm really stupid and this is never going to work, but I REALLY want people to apply. I asked EVERY SINGLE PERSON who came through my line today and not one of them even thought twice about it. No one ever listens to us cashiers. They only ignore us and don't care about the benefits because they don't even give us a chance to tell them. I am dead serious about this, too. If you can't tell, I'm pretty much desperate. haha I just thought I'd try this, even if you don't care because it's worth a try. Email me or IM me (you should know my screen name- EachPechPearPlum) if it is necessary, and find out when I work. THANKS! ~Betsy
