Still

by Hannah Littrell

If the sun should refuse to rise
And the moon doesn't hang in the night
The tides wont change, seasons rearrange
And the world is through
I will still love you

As I held him in my arms I could feel him slipping away, along with his life went my future—our future. Our dreams were taken from us by something we could not understand. Two people who love each other as much as we should be together, but sometimes things don't work out that way. He looked up at me, his eyes were so filled with love, fear, and sadness. Just the look on his face made my eyes overflow with even more tears.

"Piper." He whispered to me.

In response, I stroked his hair and gave him my full attention.

"You know... I'll never really be gone... right?" He said.

"What do you mean, Leo?" I asked.

"You know I'll be there with you, don't you?" He asked.

"Of course Leo." I answered.

"Will you still love me when I'm gone?"

"Yes Leo. I'll still love you, I always will."

"I've loved you your whole life." He whispered, taking my hand.

Sometimes I wonder what he meant when he said that, I never really tried to figure out the answer, because it always sounded nice.

He reached up, his hands trembling, and wiped a stray tear from my face.

"Don't cry Piper." He said.

"How can I not? I'll never see you again." I answered, not liking the words that had just escaped my lips.

"Soul Mates... will always... be reunited...."

I looked at him. He was gone.

You touch my heart in ways
That words could never say
That's why I'll always love you
