The Power of One

by Odim

Prue was in a cemetery in front of her mom's grave. The place had been cleaned and at that moment, under the moon, she decorated it with white flowers, her mother's favourite colour. The wind was intense and she couldn't stay more. She got up, in a black dress and heard shouts not very distant. In front of her, a woman was been attacked. Everything happened quickly. A man bit her and left her alone, going into the darkness. Prue ran to help her.

Phoebe and Piper were at the kitchen when Prue arrived with someone else.

"Who is she?"

"I have no idea. She was attacked by a vampire and is here to explain this whole story. Start by telling us your name."

"Suzan. Suzan Marie. A vampire bit me."

"It explains the mark in your neck!"

"Exactly. And there is a good reason the vampire bits me... In fact, I started to follow him."

"YOU?"

"I've been following him for two weeks. Since the beginning I asked myself if he was a warlock, but I realised that, when the moon is full, he goes out to drink some blood."

"Why did you do this?"

"It's my job. I'm a witch."

The three got surprised.

"I know it is scary, I'm sorry to tell you like this."

"NO... we are witches too. With powers!"

"Great! Then you can help me! Look, I had a power. I could make an object appear or disappear. After he bit me, I can't do it anymore! But I have an idea."

"What?"

"If one of you goes to the place he lives, it would be very dangerous, because you could lose your power. But he wouldn't bite me again, I've already lost mine. So..."

"What are you suggesting?" asked Piper.

"That I could destroy the demon if you transfer your powers to me."

"Ok, I agree. If we go by ourselves it will be worse," said Prue.

"So let's go upstairs?" proposed Piper.

"Upstairs?"

"Yes, we usually make our spells there."

"Oh, I like to do this in my father's farm, it's so calm..."

They got inside the attic and Phoebe closed the door. Prue opened the Book of Shadows and at the first page she saw the spell that gave their power in the beginning. At the second page there was an explanation of how to transfer the powers to someone else.

Piper put the caldron in the focal point with wood and fire inside of it, like the Book of Shadows proposed. Phoebe appeared with a cup of wine and each one drunk some, while the old woman was sweeping the room to remove the impurities. Prue lit a red candle and a purple one too.

"Ready?"

Together making a circle around the caldron, the witches tried to concentrate. Prue read:

I hope this power
fallow the sacred oath,
longer than one hour
bigger than the earth.

From the caldron they could see three blue brightly balls, that floated until stop inside of Suzan. Everyone was happy because the spell had worked.

The sun went down, the night came and the day started again.

"Good morning, Piper!"

"Good morning, Prue. Coffee?"

"A lot."

"I made pancakes. Here you have the honey you adore."

"Any news about the demon?"

"The one like a vampire? No, I guess he has already been killed, or almost."

"I'll phone Suzan. Where is her number?"

"She left it here."

Prue called her.

"Hello, can I talk to Suzan, please?"

"Suzan? Sorry, wrong number."

"No Suzan? Isn't 555-1529?"

"Exactly."

Prue put the phone down.

"I don't believe it..."

"What?"

"She gave us a false number!"

"Suzan?"

"She lied to us!"

"How? I've seen her been attacked!"

"I think she had a good time with our powers and is around there, moving objects, freezing everything and having visions."

At an unfinished flat, with covered tables and chairs and unpainted walls, the old lady was cutting an apple as the door-bell rang.

"Come in."

"Did you get the powers?"

"Yes..."

"Finally! It wasn't even necessary to fight! Just a very good lie! That simulation in the cemetery was cool!"

"Yes..."

"And as we've planed, it's time to I receive my 50%!"

"No..."

"What?"

She moved the knife directly to his heart, making him drop to the floor in a second. She moved the knife back to her hands and continued to cut the apple.

Piper was at the kitchen and Leo was in her head. His smile and his eyes were driving her crazy. As she moved, she knocked some glasses down, even trying to stop the time. Angry, she went to the attic and read the spell that could be found in the first page of the Book of Shadows. And she tried to receive her power back, but it was impossible.

"Prue... I want my power back, but this spell that once gave me the ability to freeze the time is not working again..."

From her office, Prue answered: "I guess it's obvious, Piper. It can only be read one time per generation. Or would you want to have copies of the Charmed Ones around there?"

"My God! We don't have our power anymore!"

Sherva, at her flat, was training how to use her new powers. She had moved the body of the demon to a garbage in the other street. And in a short period of time, she had finished painting the walls. As she went to the living room, she realized that there was a cat with her. It was grey and had a different collar.

"I'll call you... Suzan."

At the attic, the three Charmed Ones were thinking of how to get their powers back.

"The worst is that we have no idea where she is!"

"And why would she lie?"

"Hey! If she has the powers, she will return to get the Book!"

"How could she know about it, Prue?"

"I think it's a lot of coincidence a witch be attacked by a demon right in front of me in a cemetery, and try to kill a demon that would not bite her if she hadn't invaded his privacy. She knew we were witches."

"Go on."

"So she must knew we had the Book of Shadows. With it she has the access to old knowledge, which is very important to realize what she wants to do."

"So she is returning!"

"She must be waiting the best moment. I have a plan."

The night came, and the three witches went out in Prue's car to start Phoebe's plan. Enjoying the opportunity, Sherva got inside of the Halliwel's manor. She took the Book of Shadows with a smile on her lips. Again in her car, she put the book next to her and went back to her flat. Behind her, the Halliwells followed.

At her flat, Sherva opened the Book. At the first page there was a spell called "Power Forever". Excited with the idea of never loose the powers again, she read:

Under the earth, in the deep blue see,
Burning in the fire and pairing on the air
I give back the stop, the make and the think”

Prue opened the door. Each one received the powers back.

"What the hell is hap..."

Piper froze the time. Phoebe took Kit and Prue the Book of Shadows.

"Let's go."

And they closed the door.

Prue was again in front of her mom's grave. She put new flowers and touched carefully her mother's name, trying to feel her. She took from her purse a candle and tried to light it, but the wind was still intense. And after five tries she finally gave up. It was impossible. The wind got more intense. On her knees she looked to the dark sky.

"Amen."

She got up and left. At home she would rest. And even with the wind, a fire appeared on the candle.
