In Memory of Matthew Wesley Swearengin

May 3,1993-December 9,2000

Things change, time goes by
But still we all feel the loss
They say you don’t know what you have
Until you lost it, but until now
I didn’t have a full grasp of the meaning.
I think of one boy
One boy who never had a wrong thing to say to anyone
One boy who if you ask me
Fit the perfect description of a friend.
When I think of him
Nothing, not one thing
Comes to mind neither bad nor negative
About that one boy.
Everyone I know loved and adored him
I’m sure he was the apple of his mother’s eye
And I know it must be the hardest thing
To say, good bye.
That’s why I know he will be up there to greet us
And say, “Welcome.”
And I know I didn’t know him all that well
But for what I do know
I have spoke, and know
That he will always be remembered
By me, by everyone.
So as for now we are thankful
For that one boy we knew, and still know
That one boy, Matthew.

Last night I had a crazy dream

A wish was granted just for me

It could be for anything.

I didn't ask for money

Or a mansion in Malibu.

I simply wished, for one more day with you.

One more day,

One more time,

One more sunset, maybe I'd be satisfied.

But then again

I know what it would do,

Leave me wishing still, for one more day with you.

This is not at all how
We thought it was supposed to be.
We had so many plans for you,
We had so many dreams.
And now you've gone away
And left us with the memories of your smile.
And nothing we can say
And nothing we can do,
Can take away the pain.
The pain of losing you. But

 We can cry with hope.
We can say goodbye with hope
'cause we know our goodbye is not the end, oh no.

And we can grieve with hope
'cause we believe with hope,
There's a place by God's grace.
There's a place where we'll see your face again.

And never have I known
Anything so hard to understand.
And never have I questioned more
The wisdom of God's plan.
But through the cloud of tears,
I see the father's smile and say well done.
And I imagine you
Where you wanted most to be,
Seeing all your dreams come true
'cause now you're home
And now you're free.

"With Hope" Steven Curtis Chapman

I sit and think of the times we had,
And how so many of us are sad.
We'll never forget your smiling face,
And we'll never forget your warm embrace.
You were brave and courageous in all you did,
You sure were a special kid!
We might start thinking "It's not fair."
Or even "Does God really care?"
But we can't do that because you see,
God has a purpose for you and for me.
I know you're in a better place,
Even though I can't feel your warm embrace.
I know some day I'll see you again,
When I meet you in Heaven, we'll walk hand in hand.
So until that day comes Matthew,
I want you to know that we will always love you.
