Game six has now been concluded (admittedly a day late due to me being very busy at the moment). Many thanks to all of those who sent in their suggestions and now it's my turn to have a go at the game and post the best answers that we could get. I have the important matter of listing the high scorers firstly and today they are:
1. Kevin Thurlow - 120
2. Ross Allatt - 102.
Congratulations to both Kevin and Ross there for their high scores. Now on we go with a round by round analysis of the solutions offered and the ones that obtained the highest score.
Round 1: Six was the best that anyone could offer here with BRIEFS, with me being familiar with one definition in particular. Some people risked BIFFERS, but sadly I could not find a definition for this on either dictionary.com or the online CODE.
Round 2: We slip down to five here, with MOODY being offered by all. I think a bad selection of letters here prevented any particularly good words, with Q, V and Y all in the same selection.
Round 3: FREES was good for five, but there were a couple of sixes with REFUSE and FOYERS. Can't offer anything better than that here.
Round 4: FORAGE was there for six, but GIRAFFE was in the selection for seven. Quite a rare one to spot I should imagine because of the double F.
Round 5: Numbers time now and I think all numbers rounds in this game were obtainable. The easiest way to get to 408 using the selection was to say (25 + 9) X (10 + 2) = 408.
Round 6: RESUME and MIXERS are good for sixes, but I did manage to find a seven in this selection with LEISURE. As I'm sure you're aware by now, it's rare that I manage to go one better.
Round 7: AMAZED and MOATED are good for sixes, but again I did manage to go one better and find METAZOA. These are multicellular animals having cells differentiated into tissues and organs and usually a digestive cavity and nervous system, according to dictionary.com.
Round 8: ALLEGE and BEAGLE are good for sixes, but I managed to find a seven in GABELLE which is a tax, such as the salt tax in France before 1790, according to dictionary.com.
Round 9: Sevens all round here with MOTORED and ODOMETER which is an instrument that measures distance travelled by a vehicle.
Round 10: Numbers time again and the easiest way to get to 683 using the selection was to say ((75 - 6) X (5 X 2)) - 7 = 683.
Round 11: Sevens all round again with everyone offering ESPOUSE. Not a great deal more to comment on here!
Round 12: Sixes were the order of the day here with PLAYED and PLEDGE. I thought I had managed to go one better and get GLADEYE, but looking it up again I think it is capitalised, so six was the best anyone could do.
Round 13: I got a seven here with RATINGS, but there were two eights of ROASTING and ORGANIST. Far be it from me to make any sort of suggestive comments about two innocent words at this stage in the game(!)
Round 14: Numbers time again and this one was very easy. The easiest way to get to 157 using the selection was to say (100 + 50 + 8) - 1 = 157.
Round 15: Everyone got the conundrum of HIERARCHY, so ten points awarded to all.
Once again, my thanks to those who entered and apologies for the delay in this review appearing! Game seven has now been started on a new page and will close on Thursday 20th October. I am then going away on the Friday, so game eight will probably conclude upon my arrival home, but I shall decide on this next week.
