Apologies for the slightly belated review to game 18 on the website. I have been very busy just recently with exams and so have decided to take myself off up here to the study with a glass of cham... err... Vimto and have the windows thrown open trying to get a breeze through the house. My thanks to all who entered this slightly extended Countdown game and the names of the five highest scorers are posted below:

1. Chris Kirby - 109
2. Emma - 105
3. Ellis Delmonte - 102
4. James Hall - 95
5. Austen Allen - 91

Congratulations to all of the above and we now move swiftly on to my round-by-round with the review of the game, listing all the maxes that were found, as well as any unusual words worthy of note.

Round 1: Fours and fives didn't really get the game off to a great high scoring start, but the best that anyone could come up with was FRAUD for five.

Round 2: Most people managed a six in this round with ADROIT, meaning 'skilful and adept', but there was a seven available with MADWORT, which is listed on dictionary.com as being a low-growing plant with rough stems and blue flowers. Well done to those who got this.

Round 3: Seven points went to all in this round as everyone had the same word - BROWNIE.

Round 4: Back to fours and fives again here - the best word being OPIUM for five points. The noun MOON was there for four, take it in whatever sense you will!

Round 5: The first numbers round of the game and I chose the Classic Countdown Selection of one large and five small numbers. The target was 368 and could be reached by saying (9 x 7 x 6) - 10.

Round 6: Sevens were the order of the day and the most popular one here was DEMISES.

Round 7: Many people suggested PHONE for five, but there was a six available here with UNOPEN. Well done to those who spotted the six.

Round 8: There was a five here with POWER, but there was also a six with ROPIER and REWIRE. Unfortunately *REPOWER* was not listed for seven.

Round 9: A couple of good words here with FORAGED for seven, but DOGEARED is also there for eight. It must be noted that this word is usually used with a hyphen as in 'dog-eared', but it is listed in dictionary.com without the hyphen, therefore I allowed it.

Round 10: The second numbers round of the game and this time I chose two big numbers and for small. The target of 262 could be reached by saying ((25 - 7) x 9) + 100.

Round 11: There were a couple of sixes in this round with FOVEAE, which is the plural of fovea, numely 'a small cuplike depression or pit in a bone or organ', and there was also FOVEAL, the adjective and the word comes from Latin meaning 'small pit'.

Round 12: Some excellent sevens here with ASUNDER and REMANDS, but there were a couple of eights with SURNAMED (apparently it can be a verb!) and also MAUNDERS, which loosely means 'wanders', probably coming from a dilectal expression of either 'wanders' or 'meanders'.

Round 13: Some excellent sevens in this round with GUESSER, RESUMES, SURMISE and MESSIER, but no eights that were found here.

Round 14: The last numbers round of the game with the Classic Countdown Selection and a nice easy target of 596 which can be reached by saying ((9 - 3) x 100) - 4.

Round 15: Everyone got the conundrum of ACETIRADE going to ERADICATE so ten points to all.

Once again, my thanks to all those who entered the game. Game 19 has now been set up on a new page and will close a week today, so that is Saturday 17th June.
