Mega Force
, the game, was released by 20th Century Fox in 1982.  MegaForce (no space), the movie, was released by 20th Century Fox in 1982.  In both the movie and the game, the hero rides around in the desert on a heavily armed motorcycle.  In the game, the motorcycle can fly.  In the movie, the motorcycle gets dropped out of an airplane.  If you play the game for 99 minutes, the hero will most likely die several times.  If you sit through the 99 minute movie, you will have wished, several times, that the hero had died.

Although I do not have the instructions for this game and I have never read anywhere that there is a connection between the game and the movie, I assume that this game is based on the movie.  If that is the case, they did a pretty good job turning a crappy movie into a tolerable game.  If they have nothing to do with each other, I would conclude that anything released in 1982 with the name "Mega Force", "MegaForce", "Megaforce" or any variation thereof is destined to be...well...kind of crappy.  That said, lets talk about the game...

In the game Mega Force, you fly around the desert on a flying motorcycle called a Moto-Fighter and blow up stuff.  You blow up enemy ships, buildings and missiles.  You even blow up fuel depots to refuel (...um...ok...I guess that makes sense).  The game play is basically like Defender (Chopper Command, The Empire Strikes Back, etc.) only without the radar at the bottom of the screen and in Mega Force, you have to refuel.  Your enemies are on their way to destroy the city of Sardoon and you have to stop them (by blowing them up).  Each level ends when you blow up the enemy headquarters.  With all of the "blowing up" that goes on in this game, I would have thought that I would like it.  Maybe I just haven't played it enough to get the hang of it.  A lot of people seem to like this game.  If you like Defender, I guess this game would be a nice variation for something different.  Unfortunately, it is a bit more difficult to find than the average Atari 2600 game.  You should still be able to pick one up for under $10 with shipping.
