2600 Shadows

Adventures of Tron

Adventures of Tron was one of two games for the Atari 2600 made by Mattel based on the movie Tron.  The object of the game is to keep Tron alive by avoiding the bad guys (grid bugs, recognizers and tanks) and to score points by intercepting "bits" that fly by overhead and then moving to the next level.

Each board has 4 floors, 2 elevators (one on each side of the screen) and a center I/O beam (Input Output beam).  On each floor, you try to grab the "bits" that fly by overhead.  There are two "bits" on the first (bottom) floor, two on the second floor, two on the third floor and one on the top floor.  You can jump down to a lower floor on the I/O beam at any time, but you have to cross over the I/O beam for the elevators to take you up to the next level.  When you have collected all 7 "bits", you jump on the I/O beam and it will take you up to the next level.

When I first started playing the game, I didn't have the instructions.  It was kind of hard for me to get the hang of grabbing the "bits" and I wasn't sure I what I was supposed to be doing.  After playing it a few times and realizing the object of the game, I got the hang of it and it became very easy...almost too easy.  It's a pretty cool game, but once you get it, it isn't much of a challenge.  The game is pretty common and you should be able to pick it up for under $5.
