Derek learns that he has a five year old daughter. Derek Rayne was sitting at his brown wooden desk in the study looking over Alex's report on the Aztec artifact, which was sent to the San Francisco Legacy House a month ago when Nick entered the room holding a letter in his hand.
"Derek, I'm not bothering you, am I? This letter is adressed to you. Also, I have something to show you in the control room." Nick said to the precept as he handed him the letter. Derek had been in an awful mood for weeks now. Nick was not in the mood to have his head bitten off by Derek.
"Not at all, Nick. Sorry for being so rude lately...it's just that I have been having these awful dreams. Let's go to the control room." Derek said to the young man as he got up from his desk, and they headed for the control room.
New York City Central Park WestMolly Lewis was in the guest room packing Susan Willson's(Rayne)clothing and stuffed animals when Susan entered the room. "Aunt Molly, why do I hafta leave? Why can't you take care of me?" The five year old asked with tears brimming in her huge green eyes.
Molly stopped what she was doing and walked over to Susan. She knelt down and embraced the child and said, "Honey, I would love to take care of you, but your mommy wanted your daddy to raise you if something ever happened to her." She then kissed the little girl on the cheek.
Crying now Susan replied, "But, Aunt Molly, I don't even know my daddy. Why do I hafta live with some one I don't even know?" The five year old then yawned.
"I think it's time for your nap, Susie." Molly said as she picked up the tired child and put her to bed. She then left the room and headed for the kitchen to bake chocolate chip cookies for Susan.

Nick said to Derek as he was typing the info into the computer about tidal waves and volcano erruptions in Asia and the South Pacific that have been going on for the past several months, "Derek, do you think that these events can be related to the supernatural?"
"I don't know, Nick. Keep monitoring it to see if anymore of these tidal waves or volcanoes errupt anywhere else." The precept said to the young man as he was looking at the screen.
"Will do, Derek." Nick said to his boss, who he noticed was pale. "You okay, Derek?" He asked him.
"I'm fine, Nick. I just had a vision that's all. I'm going to my study and don't want to be disturbed unless it's important." Derek said to Nick as he was leaving the control room. He went to his study and closed the door. Derek picked up the letter on his desk and started to read it. "Oh good God! I have a five year old daughter who's coming to live with me, and she'll be here tomorrow!" He said out loud. He then sat at his desk and put his head down on it and fell asleep.
The Kitchen
Alex was eating an orange when Nick entered the room. "Hi, Alex." He said to his friend as he opened the frige to get a beer. Nick then went to the cabinet and took out a bag of pretzels. "Derek was in a good mood for a while, Alex. Then he turned pale and I asked him what was wrong. He said that he had a vision and that he was going to his study...didn't want to be disturbed unless it was important." Nick said as he sat down at the table.
"He's been having visions and nightmares of a little girl in trouble. Rachel should be back from L.A. today." Alex said to the young man as she got up from the table and threw away her napkin. "I'm going to the control room. A new object has arrived so I'm going to scan it. See you there in ten minutes." She said leaving the room and then headed for the control room.
Nick was getting up from the tan wooden table when Rachel entered the room. "Hi, Nick. How have things been while I was gone?" She asked her younger collegue as she was pouring coffee into the white mug.
"Hi, Rache. How was the conference in L.A.? Derek has been in a mood for weeks now...is in his study and doesn't want to be disturbed unless it's important. Other then that, things have been fine." He said to the blond.
Flicking her blond hair behind her ears, she said, "It was interesting. Alex has been filling me in on Derek's visions and nightmares. I think I'm gonna have a little chat with him right now." She put the mug down on the counter and left the room and headed for the Precept's study. Nick left the room as well and went to the control room.
Derek's Study
Derek was dreaming about how he and Marci Willson had met. He was in New York on vacation and was walking past an art gallery in Manhattan. The sign said Marci Willson's Art Gallery. Derek spotted an interesting painting in the window. 'Would look nice for the Legacy House.' he thought to himself. He walked into the building and was looking around when a feminine voice from behind said, "Can I help you with anything?"
Turning around, Derek saw the most beautiful creature and was smitten by her beauty that his tongue was tied in knots. It took him a while to answer the chestnut haired woman. "I'm interested in the painting in the window." Derek said with a grin on his face.
The woman smiled as she said, "You have good taste. Are you a fan of Monet's work?"
"As a matter of fact, I'm a huge fan of his." He replied as he looked into her huge green eyes.
"So am I. By the way, I'm Marci Willson." She said to him as she brought the Monet to the register and rang it up. "That'll be $50,000." As he was handing Marci his traveller's check and some form of id, he said,"Nice to meet you, Marci. I'm Derek Rayne. If your not busy would you like to have dinner with me?" She told him that she would be happy to go out to eat with him.
Derek took Marci to The Russian Tea Room. After taking a sip of white wine, she said to him, "You know what I do for a living, but I don't know what you do."
Gazing into her eyes, he said, "I work for the Luna Foundation. I have a phD in theology and archeology "You're one smart man. So what do you do for the Luna Foundation?" She asked him clearly impressed with her dinning companion.
Changing the subject very quickly he said to Marci, "You have the prettiest eyes...like emeralds and your complexion is like milk." He was flirting with her and she liked it a lot. After he paid the check, they took a long walk. Marci then invited him to her place. One thing led to another and, they ended up in her femininely decorated bedroom, which was done in mauve, white and lavender, and made love.
Rachel entered Derek's study where she found him looking out the window at the bay. She saw his reflection in the window. "My God, you look awful, Derek!" She exlaimed with concern in her voice.
Turning around he said, "Hi, Rachel. When did you get here ?"
"A couple of minutes ago. What's wrong with you? Alex has told me that you have been having awful visions and nightmares, and Nick said that you have been snapping at him and Alex for the last couple of weeks, Derek. Want to fill me in?"Rachel asked in her psychiatrist's voice.
Running his fingers through his graying hair said, "The visions and dreams have been about a little girl in trouble...seems upset in the dreams and visions that I've been having."
Sitting on his desk facing him, Rachel asked, "When did they begin, Derek?"
"They started three weeks ago, Rachel. I received this letter from a Molly Lewis today. I have a five year old daughter named Susan. She's coming to live with me and will be here tomorrow." He said to her. He then gave Rachel the letter to read. "This is no place to raise a child. I'm thinking of sending her to boarding school."
Looking up from the letter, she replied, "That's not a good idea, Derek. Susan just lost her mother three weeks ago...moving to a new place is confusing and terrifying to a child especially a five year old."
"Rachel, we fight evil and sometimes the evil forces show up here. I don't want to put the child in danger. Maybe I'll send her to the convent. Ingrid would look out for her." Derek said.
"Again, Derek that's not a good idea. The child has been through so much. Yes, evil does pay a visit from time to time. Is that the real reason why you don't want her staying here with you?" Rachel asked as she moved her hands.
"Rachel, I don't know what kind of father I'm going to be to Susan. My father was never around, and my mother took Ingrid and me overseas. I had a nanny and then was sent to boarding school when I was five and a half. What if I 'm not around enough for her...this job takes me all over the world and plus I have so much to over see here." He said to Rachel. She told him that he will be a wonderful father, and they both headed for the control room.

Molly walked into the guest room to wake Susan up from her nap. "Hey, little, Susie. It's time to wake up now." She said as she gently shook the little girl. Susan woke up and rubbed her eyes sleepily. "Did you have a good nap, sweetie?" Molly asked her.
"Yeah, I had a good nap, Aunt Molly. Can we go to the park?" The five year old asked as she was getting out of bed.
"Yes, we can go to the park. Let's wash your face and brush your hair first. Okay?" Molly said to the youngester who nodded her head. They headed off to the bathroom where Molly washed the little girl's face and brushed her hair. She put Susan's chestnut hair in pigtails. She was going to miss the adorable five year old something fierce when she left the apartment for Molly enjoyed having a little girl around the place...was awful lonely after her messy divorce from her husband. After that was finished, they left the apartment and headed for the park.
Central Park
Spotting the carousel in the distance, Susan said, "Aunt Molly, I wanna ride the merry-go-round." They headed over to the carousel, and they both went on toghter. Molly reached up and grabbed the brass ring and gave it to the little girl. "Cool, Aunt Molly. I'm gonna put it on my finger and when I look at it, I'm gonna remember you." Susan said to *her* Aunt Molly who reached over and gave the little girl a kiss on the cheek. Molly and Susan rode the merry-go-round a few more times and then got off it. "I'm hungry, Aunt Molly. I want a pretzel." She said as they were getting off the carousel. They headed for the pretzel vendor. After they ate there pretzels, they walked around the park. When Molly and Susan arrived at the baseball field that faces The Plaza, they play tag until the sun begun to set. Then they went home where Molly fixed Susan macaroni and cheese the little girl's favorite dish. Once dinner was completed, they played Candyland and after that, they went for ice cream at Serendipity's since it was the five year old's last night in the city. Molly carried the sleeping child home, undressed her and let her sleep in Molly's queen bed.

Nick walked through the hologram wall and found Alex hard at work scanning a weird looking object. "Hey, Alex, what the hell's that?" He asked the dark haired woman as he went over to the scanner.
"That's what I'm trying to find out, Nick. You were supossed to be here in ten minutes. What happened?" She asked Nick.
"I was leaving the kitchen when Rachel walked in. She wanted to know how things were goin. She's talking to Derek right now." Nick stated to Alex.
"That's good that Rachel is back. Maybe things can get back to normal." She said looking into her friend's hazel eyes. Turning her attention back at the artifact she said, "It's from Africa. It looks like there's a picture of a mask on it. If I can zoom in a little closer, maybe I can see if it's a mask at all." She said as she typed on the computer enlarging the object. "It is indeed a mask...a Senufo Mask." She informed Nick who was looking at the screen on the wall.
Derek and Rachel entered the room. Looking at the slate blue scuplture Derek stated, "It's from Africa. There's a Senufo Mask on it so the piece must be from the Ivory Coast of Africa."
"It's a weird looking object...half box and half vase. Who sent it here, Alex?" Rachel asked her friend.
She moved away from the scanner and went over to where she placed the tan parcel paper the object came in. Alex picked it up and said, "It was sent by David Zumba from New York City."
Nick noticed a piece of paper on the floor by the computer terminal and picked it up. He tried to read it but could only make out one word...David Zumba. "Hey, guys. I found this on the floor...can't read it cause it in some kinda code. David Zumba's name is on it." Nick stated to his collegues. Derek moved to where the young man was standing and said, "I'd like to take a look at that, Nick." He gave his boss the piece of paper. "It's not in code, Nick. It's in an ancient language...one I've never seen before." He said as he left the control room with the paper in his hand. He went to the library to do research on the ancient writing.
Twirling a long black curl as she said "Well, he's in a better mood. Hopefully, he'll stay that way."
"He's had a lot on his mind you guys. He's gonna need your support...just found out that he has a five year old daughter, who's coming tomorrow to live here." Rachel said to her friends. She noticed that Nick had a big smirk on his face, which she choosed to ignore and continued, "You two may have to baby sit once and a while. So there may not be late night running for you, Nick."
Nick said with a huge grin on his face, "I always knew that sooner or later Derek would end up finding out that he has a child. He's such the ladies man. He's had more action in the past five years than I've had, and I'm younger than him. I think I'm gonna go for a run. Leave you two alone to gossip about Derek." He left the room and headed up the stairs to his room where he changed into his running outfit...blue sweatshirt and gray sweatpants. Nick then ran down the stairs out the main door for a long run.
After Nick left the room, the two ladies discussed Derek's daughter. "I wonder if Susan, his daughter has inherited the *sight*." Rachel said to Alex as she sat down.
"We'll soon find out. I wonder if he'll allow us to do the psychic testing on her." She said to her friend.
Flicking her hair behind her ears, she said to Alex, "It shouldn't be done right away. This house is weird enough and we're adults so it'll be pretty scary to a five year old. Susan might find the lab a frightening place." Rachel looked at her watch and said, "It's getting late and I promised Kat that we would go out to eat." She then left the control and headed for the library. Rachel wanted to make sure that everything was fine with Derek before she headed for her place.
The LibraryDerek was in trying to translate the note, which Nick had found on the floor in the control room when Rachel walked into the room. "Any luck figuring it out, Derek?" Rachel asked him.
"No I'm not having any luck figuring out...guess it'll be a late night for me."
"You should try and get a goodnight's sleep. Your daughter is coming tomorrow and five year olds are a bundle of energy. Are you still nervous about Susan arriving her tomorrow?" She asked him looking him directly in the eyes.
"No, I'm not as nervous, Rachel. I try and go to bed by midnight." He said to her as she was leaving the room.

Molly Lewis was in the kitchen making chocolate chip pancakes when the little girl entered the room. "Hi, Aunt Molly. What are you making?" Susan said as she sat down at the table.
"Good morning, Susie. I making chocolate chip pancakes...your favorite. Did you sleep well?" Molly asked Susan as she put the pancakes on the Blue's Clues plate. She brought it over to the table and set it in front of the five year old. "Do you want orange juice or milk?" She asked in front of the frige.
"Milk please, Aunt Molly." Susan said to the tall and attractive brunette. Molly took out the milk and went to the cabinet and took out a Blue's Clues glass and poured the milk into it and gave it to Susan. "Thanks, Aunt Molly. I couldn't sleep last night. I wish I didn't have to leave this place." She said with food in her mouth.
"You know that it isn't polite to talk with food in your mouth, Susie. I wish you could stay here too, sweetie." Molly said as she kissed Susan on the cheek.
She swallowed her food and took a sip of milk before she said to her *aunt*,"Do you know who my daddy is, Aunt Molly? Did my mommy ever tell you about him?"
"I know your father's name...Derek Rayne. No your mommy didn't tell me anything about him. Finish your breakfast, sweetie. We've got to get to the airport soon." Molly said as she got up from the table to wash the frying pan. Susan finished her breakfast and went to the guest room to get dressed. After that the two of them headed for the airport.

Derek was in the kitchen drinking coffee and reading the newspaper when Alex walked in. "Hi, Derek. Have any luck figuring out what the note said? I spent most of the night and into the wee hours of the morning scanning that object...with no luck." Alex said as she was pouring herself a glass of orange juice.
"Hi, Alex. No, I didn't have any luck. Why don't you go up to bed." He said to his friend. Nick was in town visiting a friend of his. Derek didn't want Susan to feel overwhelmed by meeting too many people at once. It was Rachel's suggestion that most of the staff be given the day off and for Nick not to be around for a good part of the day.
She said with a bagel and a mug in her hand, "That's exactly what I'm doing. I won't be down until supper." Alex then left the room and headed for her room.
