'High Noon' Update

Channel surfers looking for a duster have long known TBS was a good place to start.

Ted Turner's superstation has always been heavy on the John Wayne reruns -- but High Noon, shot in Calgary this spring, is its first original western.

"To me, TBS were the last people who would've picked it up. They've stuck their neck out," High Noon director Rod Hardy tells the Sun.

The remake debuts on TBS Aug. 20 starring Tom Skerritt as Sheriff Will Kane (the Gary Cooper role) and Once and Again's Susanna Thompson as the bride made famous by Grace Kelly.

Expect more TBS movies like High Noon as the cable channel tries to reinvent itself as "a TV haven for the Regular Guy."

"High Noon is the biggest promotion they've ever done and, if it doesn't work, they've taken a risk," says Hardy.__Calgary Sun (July 12, 2000)
