Billy Campbell and His Happy Little Home on Wheels

Billy Campbell stars with Sela Ward in the romantic family drama "Once and Again" on ABC. Billy and Sela's characters are two divorced parents on the sometimes tough, sometimes funny of "adult" courtship. You might also remember Billy as the title character from the Touchstone movie, "The Rocketeer." He recently purchased a new Volkswagen EuroVan, which has become a familiar site around the studio.

It turns out that Billy had Volkswagen on his mind for quite some time. Between wardrobe changes at a recent filming of "Once and Again" he told us, "I always wanted a VW bus, but decided against an old one."

When a story line was proposed with a camping scene, a EuroVan Camper seemed like the perfect vehicle. While the scene was temporarily set aside, Billy became intrigued with the new EuroVan. Mimi Clark, a founding partner of Pier 3 Entertainment and a Volkswagen owner herself decided this was an opportunity too good to miss. She tracked down a model with all the features Billy was looking for and had it delivered to the set. Now Billy's a happy member of the Volkswagen family.

The new EuroVan turned heads right away. "The crew was really impressed. When I first pulled into work, some of them were hooting and hollering. Come to think of it, those where the transportation guys. They like a well-made vehicle.

I was extremely impressed with the handling, pickup and visibility. Also with the comfortable seats and interior design in general." There was no hesitation when we asked about his favorite EuroVan features. "Number one. Turning radius. Number two. Turning radius. Number three. Turning radius. Number four. Everything else!"

Does the EuroVan provide a refuge from the fast-paced Hollywood lifestyle? "It gets me away from the madness," Billy said. "We spend so much time with our nosed to the grindstone that we have to be careful to remember to just take a breath, to stand back and do something for ourselves. Personally, I have trouble remembering that and sometimes, though I resist, the producers have to send me home because I'm so exhausted I can barely remember my lines.

"On occasions like those, I'll crawl into the comfort of my EuroVan and sleep a few contented hours before succumbing to the pull of the open road. It's a happy little home on wheels and it rejuvenates me. Heck, I'm so proud of my EuroVan, so happy with its comfort and performance, that it may be the last vehicle I ever own."__VW Driver (Spring, 2000)
