Switching Nights

By Gail Shister --
ABC's "Once and Again" (10 p.m. ET Tuesdays) and "Gideon's Crossing" (10 p.m. Wednesdays) will switch time slots as of Jan. 10.

"Once," the sophomore divorce drama starring Sela Ward and Billy Campbell, was to move to Mondays to make room for "NYPD Blue," but ABC decided it would do better on Wednesdays against NBC's male-oriented "Law & Order."

Conversely, ABC believes Andre Braugher's rookie "Gideon" will improve against CBS' female-skewing Tuesday lineup.

"Once" co-creator Marshall Herskovitz is thrilled that he won't have to compete anymore against CBS' powerful "Judging Amy" on Tuesdays.

"We were splitting an audience instead of making our own way."

After tonight, "Once" will be pre-empted by special programming until it occupies its new slot Jan. 10.__Philadelphia Inquirer (December 19, 2000)
