Maggie & Joe

*********************************

I must admit this union irks me. Seeing these two together is about as delightful to me as taking a trip to the bog of eternal stench. Sure, they may have been wonderfully matched back then... But as far as I've seen, I find myself inclined to disagree. Assessing Joe, I could clearly see that his particular character was selfish and domineering. A typical jerk of a man in the works. The writers clearly should have fashioned this character to be a heel (sorry. "heel" is wrestling lingo for "bad guy"). Not only would that have struck interest in the viewers and heightened ratings but would have kept Joel Crothers on the show as well. He admitted, himself, that he got bored with the role. It happens all too often in soap operas with stubborn writers. When they get ahold of a pet storyline, they'll keep it on a leash forever, sometimes regardless of what the viewers and actors think. That's how they lose they're best players. I would have loved to see this man in a leather jacket and sunglasses riding wildly off with Caroline Stoddard. In truth, she was his match. They had wonderful chemistry together and in my opinion it may have been a mistake to separate them. There was always a sense of fun with those two and their coupling was believable. I think writing in a romance for Joe and Maggie brought down both of their characters. Especially Joe's. If they were so intent on keeping them together they could have at least written something enjoyable for them.

My Couple Rating:
