As they leave the set behind and turn the corner toward the main shopping district of the small carolina town where they film, the tense trio notice James sitting in his BMW in the parking lot, grooming himself in the real-view mirror. Giggling at the sight, they all watch his preen. he's totally unaware of their presence. As he steps out of the car and slips his comb into his jacket pocket, he's greeted by a round of applause and cheers from his castmasts. Turning red, James bows low while good-humoredly flipping them off. "Okay,okay we're sorry," laughs Britney. "We on our way to lunch. wanna join us?" James flashes his ever-ready smile. "Cool.let's go!"
They pick a small italian restaurant that's one of James' favorites. During the meal, Katie picks at her salad as the others chow down on massive quantities of pasta and bread. She's lost her appetite: It's all she can do to keep from baring her teeth at Britney as she watches her take turns beguliling first James, then Josh. Whatever, thinks Katie. They finish eating,leave a big tip and stroll out of the restaurant/. As they walk back to the set, a horde of fans materializes--they must've all gotten off a tour bus or something thinks Katie. Josh and James can't resist the calls of the fans and peel off from the girls to sign autographs. Moving toward the fans, waving, James leans into josh." What do you think of Britney?" he whispers. "She's really nice." says Josh "She looks hot in that tank top.I hear she broke up with that *nsync guy, nick, justin, or whatever."
"Really?" says Josh James shows off his best ladies' man smirk. "To quote from our own show: She's on the rebound...and i want to help her bounce." Josh grimaces. "Are you sure she's your type?" "Jeez, what's that about?" James smacks Josh lightly on the back of the head. "You sound jealous." "Me? Not at all," Josh says, as they enveloped by screeching fans. "Give it your best shot." **************************************************************************************************************

As James and Josh disappear in a mass of admirers, Britney pulls Katie closes to her. "Listen, Katie..." she whispers. "What's up with you and Josh? "Nothing...Nothing..." Katie stammers, surprised by this ambush." I mean, we used to have a thing, but that is totally over.Why do you ask?" " Well, I don't know how over it is with him." smiles Britney. "He was sneaking looks at you all though lunch." Katie feels herself blushing. Maybe Britney isn't so bad, she thinks Maybe we can be pals. "Josh and I are Just good friends now," she says. Britney shakes her head. "I guess I could be wrong, but I don't think so. I've seen that look before." Katie smiles at Britney, but before she can respond, she jumps in pain, she turns to see josh , who's sneaked up on her and pinched her belly. "Hey, salad-eater," he laughs. "I know what you're doing. You're trying to get so skinny that you just have to turn sideways and the autograph hounds won't be able to see you!" Katie sees red. " We can't all look like Beluga the Beautiful, now can we!" she snaps back, indicating Britney. She immediately feels bad for attacking her new friend like that--and she sighs in relief when she see her chatting with James and didn't hear her. Katie is embarrassed that she's shown Josh how easily he can still hurt her. She decides to prove just how crazy Britney's theory is. "What would you do if i kissed you right now?" she says to Josh. "I'd slap you for being so fresh." Josh jokes. See! thinks Katie, smiling to herself. I knew he didn't have feeling for me. Katie turns back towards the set- and stops dead cold, shocked. Josh, too, can't believe what he's seeing. Acroos from them, in front of a bunch of fans, Britney and James are locked in an embrace.
