Short summary: *** this fanfic is a Josh and Katie romance that tells the story of the relationship of Joshua Jackson and Katie Holmes behind the scenes of Dawson's Creek.***

Katie knocked on the bedroom door, poking her head through the little space. Josh walked over to open the door wider, allowing her access to his room. She stood at the doorway, eyeing the piles of clothes, books and CDs that were either on the floor or on the bed.
"I guess this is where the fun begins." She ceremoniously pulled back the sleeves of her shirt and puffed out her chest. "So where do we start?" "Start? I've put everything away already. There's nothing to do." "You're kidding me right?" She walked over to the bed and lifted an old wrinkled shirt; "This is putting away?" She shook her head in a scolding manner. She was not a neat freak by all means, but this was too much.

"You disapprove?" He asked, pouting like a boy. She rolled her eyes then pulled him by the arms, signaling him to get to work. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"There!" She placed the last book on the bookshelf, wiping a bead of sweat from her forehead. Josh sat on the edge of the bed, looking at her, amused. "What?" She asked, not so sure why he was staring at her like that. "Nothing." He answered, chuckling at her reaction. "That is not a nothing look. So? What?" She quickly glanced at the mirror, trying to pinpoint what it was that he was looking at. "Are you guys done yet?" James interrupted from outside, knocking on the door. She opened the door, realizing that they had left it closed this whole time. He brushed past her, giving the room a quick look over. "So where do we start?" He asked, earning a confused look from both Josh and Katie. "Start?" They both asked incredulously. They watched with a shell-shocked face as James listed off the piles of CDs, which sat in piles on the desk, then the creased bed sheet and many other things that needed to be put away. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The three lay on the living floor, too tired to move a muscle. "What time is Michelle coming over?" James looked to his left, asking Katie. "What time is it? She said she'd come over after shooting." "It's 10pm. She's shooting with Scott right?" Josh asked, nudging Katie, who was next to him. The three went back to silence, too tired to say a word. Suddenly there was a loud growling sound. The three looked at each other, wondering from whose stomach the sound came from. "OK. It was me. I'm hungry." Josh said with a shrug. James chuckled, before crawling to his feet and heading to the kitchen. "What are you doing?" Josh asked. "Cooking. I doubt that you can and let me tell you from experience that you don't want Katie to." He replied, opening the fridge to see what he could come up with.

Josh and Katie smiled as they heard their friend hum followed by sounds of pots and pans. "Thank you" Katie mouthed silently, laying her hand on top of Josh's. "Hey, it's OK. I was really hungry." He answered, lifting his hand a little, then tangling his fingers through hers. The two lay with their eyes closed, listening to the sizzling sound that came from the kitchen. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Katie stirred from her slumber as she heard distant voices. She rolled over to her left and fell off the bed as she met a pair of brown eyes and drool. "Shumba." She croaked, getting up to her knees, resting her chin on the edge of the bed. The Rhodesian Ridgeback rolled over, begging her to scratch his tummy. Katie laughed as she crawled back on the bed, cuddling the dog.

"Are you okay? I thought I heard a thud." She lifted her head and smiled lazily at Josh, who had just come into the room. "I'm okay. How did I get in your room?" She propped herself on her elbow, tickling the canine's stomach. "Let me tell you, you are one tough cookie to carry. Not to mention the drool…" He pointed to a spot on his shirt. She rolled her eyes, accusing him of being a drama queen. "Well, Michelle's here and dinner's done." He strolled over to his bed, offering her his hand. She smiled before placing her hand in his, letting him pull her up. Together, they walked to the living room, dropping their entangled hand reluctantly. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Welcome back, Sleeping Beauty." Michelle greeted from her position on the couch. Katie breathed in the delicious smell that hung in the air. "Well, don't just stand there." James said as he passed her a plate of spaghetti. She eagerly accepted it and placed it on the polished coffee table, careful not to spill any, knowing that there would be hell to pay if she did. "You know, he's not going to kill you for being human." Josh said, nudging her, trying to make her drop the fork on the table.

"I won't kill you, but let me remind you that I spent a very long time, polishing the wooden edges then windexing the glass area." James said warningly. Katie lifted her hands up, stopping them. "Guys, I'm not a baby. I can eat without spilling!" "Word!" Michelle quipped, slurping a strand of noodle, leaving some sauce on her chin, sending the other three in laughter. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"I'm stuffed." Katie rubbed her stomach with a satisfied look. James smiled with pride that his friends enjoyed his cooking. "So what's next on the agenda?" Josh asked, carrying the dishes to the kitchen, which was the least he could do after the awesome meal that his roommate had made. "Nothing. I think we're done." James followed him with the glasses. "Wait. No, no, no. There's still one thing left." Katie said, standing up. Michelle stood up with her and they headed to the front door. "And that is…it's time for you to leave?" Josh asked. "No, silly. Housewarming gifts." Katie replied. "Gifts. Those are always nice." He said perking up at the mention of gifts, like a child. "We'll be back with them." With that the two girls left the apartment.

Ten minutes later, they heard a knock on their door. James reached to open the door and fell on the floor, laughing at the sight. There stood Katie with a blue beanbag and the Michelle with a red one, trying desperately hard not to drop them. "You got us bean bags?" James sputtered out, pointing at them then laughing again. "Well, your couch isn't exactly fit for four so we thought that we'd bring our own seats." Michelle said, dropping the beanbag in front of the TV.

"Besides, what's a bachelor pad without a couple of bean bags." Katie added, smiling gratefully at Josh who offered to carry it for her as opposed to James who was still on the floor, having caught a nasty case of hiccups. "And now for the last gift." Michelle pulled out a tape from her jacket. "There's more?" Josh asked, placing Katie's beanbag next to the coffee table, not so far from where he sat.

"We just thought that the perfect way to end this day would be with E.T." As soon as those words left Michelle's lips, groans were heard from the two men.

"E.T? Can we get something straight here? I'm nothing like Dawson." James quickly said. "You don't have to tell us that. We know that. For one thing, Dawson is a virgin." Josh pointed out. "His vocabulary skill is way better than yours." Michelle continued. "He's oblivious to everything!" Katie said, throwing up her hands in the air. "He lives on flannels." Michelle added.

"OK. I get the point. Ease up on the guy a little. He's still a kid." James said, chuckling. Katie took her place on her beanbag and smiled up at Josh, who sat above her. "I mean, sure he is a bit naive and all, but growing up at a small town can do that-" James rattled on. "Shut up Dawson!!!" They cried out in unison as they increased the volume of the TV. Laughter echoed in the room, but was soon replaced by the sweet sound of Eliot.
