Short summary: *** this fanfic is a Josh and Katie romance that tells the story of the relationship of Joshua Jackson and Katie Holmes behind the scenes of Dawson's Creek.***

"Two bedrooms with two bathrooms.." Josh murmured to himself as he leafed through the real estate section of the newspaper. "Two bedrooms? Oh, I see, even Shumba can't tolerate living in the same room as you." Katie teased as she joined him at the long U-shaped table. "No, no, no. Since James and I decided to move in together." His eyes still glued to the newspaper. "Are you serious?" She asked incredulously, pulling out her script from her bag. " Why? Did you want me to shack up with ya?" He asked as he pinched her cheek lightly. "It's just that you guys haven't known each other for that long and already-"

"The guy is nice…unless there is something you're not telling me about him…" He trailed off, his fingers still on her face. "No, it's not that. It's like how they say, never go into business with friends." She whispered in a low voice as Kevin arrived for the table reading. "Living together is hardly a business, Katie." He retracted his hand and returned to the newspaper. "Well, if you still haven't found a place, you can try my building. I think that they have a two bedroom available." She suggested. "I'll have to go check it out with James." "Sure. Just tell me and I'll give you the office phone number."

"Hey guys." Michelle waved as she plopped down next to Josh. "Ugh. It's seven in the morning. I can't believe that I actually crawled out of bed at this ungodly hour!" She complained, resting her head on his shoulder. "Am I late?" James asked, skidding to a stop before walking to the table. Katie smiled as he smiled a silent greeting to her. "Nope." Kevin said. "There's one more person." "Cliff Eliot?" Michelle asked groggily. "Sorry I'm late." They all turned around to see a tall brown haired male with an apologetic look on his face, which quickly turned into the most adorable smile.

"Everyone this is Scott Foley. He'll be with us for three episodes." Kevin said, introducing them to the man who will be guest starring on their show. Everyone stood up as Scott went around shaking everyone's hands. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Wow. You sure traveled a lot." Josh said in awe. "My dad worked in international banking." Scott explained. "Must've been great." "Well, it was hard. I had to constantly find new friends with each new location." Katie felt guilty as she listened to them talk. Here was a guy who waited table, sold insurance and even lived off Mrs. Fields' leftover chocolate cookies for seven long years. He definitely paid his dues as an actor. She could see why Josh was intrigued by him. They were practically like brothers now. She was beginning to feel a bit left out.

"Katie, we need you in full body makeup." A crewmember called out to her. "That's my cue. I'll see you guys later." She stood up and waved at them, before leaving. "Later." The two boys chided. "So what's up with the you two?" Scott asked as soon as she was out of earshot. "What do you mean?" Josh asked, shaking his leg nervously.

"Come on. The obvious flirting." "I flirt with everyone. What did you think I was doing with you?" He answered jokingly. "I should've known that you would answer like that." "What about you? I've seen the way you have been looking at Michelle." Josh said in a tsk-ing voice. "Don't even go there." "Too bad I'm the one who gets to kiss her today." He prodded on in a sing-song voice. "It's called acting." "Sure." He continued sarcastically. "You want me to go talk to Kevin about having Cliff kiss Joey?" Scott asked in a threatening voice. "That would never happen. Joey would never be interested in a jock, just as she would never be interested in Capeside's black sheep either." "You never know. Oh, by the way, what's with the caesar hair cut?" He asked pointing to Josh's hair. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Josh, what time do you want to go see the apartment? I'm nearly done now." James asked Josh as he walked towards his trailer. "Oh. Scott and I were planning on shooting some pool. I'm sorry, I forgot. Do you want to come with us?" Josh asked politely. He felt horrible that he forgot about their plan to go see the place at Katie's building. "Nah. That's alright. You guys have fun." James said quickly, trying to cover up the disappointment on his face.

"Tell you what. Why don't I go with you." Katie offered, noticing the look on his face. He smiled appreciatively, mouthing a thank you. Josh whistled for Shumba, who crawled lazily towards him. "I guess that settles it then." He hesitated for a minute. "I'll see you guys tomorrow. Have fun." Katie and James watched as the two men got into Josh's jeep and drive away. "You didn't-"

"Well, come on. Don't you want to see the place? I'll even cook you dinner and drive you to the emergency room too." She cut in, smiling. He chuckled for a moment before asking her for direction to her apartment. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"You didn't-" "It's alright." Josh cut in, stepping on the gas, peeling out of the lot. "Then wipe that frown from your face!" Scott joked, watching the two people they had left behind, from the rear view mirror. "This…this is not a frown." He pointed to his own face. "This is the, I'm-gonna-kick-yo-ass-in-pool face." He added, pointing at his face again. Scott sighed. "Little boy, you still have a lot to learn." "Hey, I'm anything, but little." He said with an arrogant grin. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Katie held the door open for James, letting him walk into her apartment. "I feel like I just walked into the Pottery Barn catalogue." He walked around a little, commenting on her good taste in furniture. "Some of them are." She reached for a leaflet on her coffee table and handed it to him. "And some are from this little antique store I found." "I'm impressed. I really am. Did you do this all by yourself?" He settled down on her sofa, smiling as he recognized it from the catalogue.

"My friend, Megan came from Ohio to help me settle in." She scooped the pile of scripts on the floor and placed them on the kitchen counter. "I see. You're not really the tidy type." He moved the vase on the table, placing it exactly in the center. She grinned sheepishly. She wasn't expecting company so she didn't bother to clean up the place. She glanced around nervously, praying that her more personal belongings were all safely tucked away in her bedroom. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Your shot." Scott called out to Josh, who was too busy staring off into space. "Caesar boy!" He called out, trying to get his attention. Josh cringed at that name and reminded himself to have a talk with Kevin about the hair. He bent forward, with his stick aimed at the lower part of the white ball, then hit it quickly, sending it straight for the blue ball then back towards it's original position. "Not bad." Scott commented as the blue ball fell into the hole with a thud. "You sure know how to set up them balls."

"I spent most of my High School years playing pool and watching the Jon Stewart show." This time he hit the white ball slowly. He felt Scott's eyes burning on him and he glanced up with a questioning look. "It's killing you, isn't it?" Scott asked, leaning against the wall. "No. It looks like I'm killing you." Josh chuckled, gesturing towards the pool table. "The two of them in her apartment, all alone." He continued.

Josh shook his head, dismissing his friend, and aimed to sink in the red ball. He pulled his stick back then tapped the white ball lightly, letting it roll to the red one, hitting it lightly, missing the hole by half an inch. From behind, he heard Scott's laughter amidst the loud chattering of the people on the other table, but his mind wandered to the apartment on the other side of town.
