SSW 2002 - Florida

My husband traveled with me this year to Orlando SSW 2002 and we took a second video camera. They are both digital video cameras which provide the best quality. He gave up a day of his vacation to tape for us on Saturday so obtained all of the Saturday events (except for one PC/GH one at 2:30 which sold out). So I have all of the AMC and OLTL events from Saturday...and all of the GH and PC events from the weekend except for the 2:30 GH/PC one which I was able to tape on Sunday.

I have the 13 prior SSW tapes from Orlando 2001, and the Anaheim 2002 weekends. So the first edit from Orlando 2002 will be #14 which contains the GH talk shows. I was able to put the remaining events that GH actors attending on the #15 and all of the PC actors events are also on this. They combined PC & GH actors at several events. There is also one show which they combined AMC and PC actors on the #15.

For AMC, I have all of the remaining Saturday shows that they appeared at on #16 (as I mentioned one of the Saturday AMC shows is on #15). For OLTL, all of the Saturday shows they appeared at are on #17. Because the Street Jams were each about 1 1/2 hours I used two separate tapes for those concerts. So Saturday night's concert is on #18, and the Sunday night concert is on #19. There is some duplication between nights but many different songs and different performances. If you had to pick one concert, I would suggest the Sunday night tape as there were a couple of additional performances and just to hear Kirsten Alderson makes it worth while though I really enjoyed the songs that Kurth & Taylor played Saturday night! Both of these concerts came out pretty good as I invested in the tallest tripod I could find and it made a big difference in being able to get a good clear picture.

I taped all of the following events on SP, the editing is all on SP. This provides the best quality. I have made notes on the following of any quality notes to be aware of. I recommend when looking to purchase any event tape to make sure the person used a tripod as without a tripod it is impossible to get a good stable picture. And for the outdoor events a VERY tall tripod is a necessity to avoid all the tall heads. The sound is good on the outdoor events as they have a good sound system. I noticed that in the indoor events that the ones I taped on the video camera with the microphone attachment have a bit louder sound than my husband's camera without. So if they hold SSW next year and if I can talk him into taping again, I would definitely get another microphone for his camera and another jumbo tripod (he had the smaller tripod at one of the outdoor events and the picture is not as stable having to balance it on the backpack for added height. Fortunately I met up with him and switched tripods so he had the taller one for the later outdoor events). So each time I go I refine my system and look at how I can add additional tapes and continue to improve the quality. I think this years Orlando SSW tapes are definitely better with the addition of the taller tripod and microphone. The other quality note is like last year, during the evening street jams there are white spots in the lighting. When an actor would stand in a certain spot with the floodlights on them the picture is not as clear as when they moved out of that spot. So nothing I can do about that and the same occurred last year. Sound came out great on both Street Jams.

SSW #14 2002 Orlando - GH 2:19 mins SP

1) Saturday 10:45 am Talk show hosted by Linda Dano. Guests: Tamara Braun (Carly, GH), Steve Burton (Jason, GH), Robin Christopher (Skye, GH), John Ingle (Edward, GH), Wally Kurth (Ned, GH),Vanessa Marcil (Brenda, GH) Sat 55 mins. Great camarderie amongst the cast. Especially fun is the joking between Tamara/Robin/Vanessa. Linda drools over Steve, and they joke about his nickname. Wally sings a bit of "Barefoot Ballet" to a fan in the audience as a street jam preview. Fan does a scene with John Ingle. (Stacey taped, good quality)

2) Sunday 10:45 Talk show hosted by Linda Dano.
Guests: Tamara Braun (Carly, GH), Robin Christopher (Skye, GH), Vanessa Marcil (Brenda, GH), Steve Burton (Jason, GH), John Ingle (Edward, GH), Wally Kurth (Ned, GH) 62 mins. Note I was farther over to the side during this event and the cameraman was right in front of them taping so for the first three ladies I taped the big screen which showed nice close ups of them and came out good. Funny though when Steve came out fans had a fit that they wanted to see Steve and made the cameraman move! So from then on it’s the live picture. Fan does a scene with Wally. (Stacey taped, good quality)

3) Sunday 12:00 pm Outdoor Q&A with Walt Wiley - Motorcade arrivals
Chad Brannon (Zander, GH), Tamara Braun (Carly, GH), Wally Kurth (Ned, GH), Vanessa Marcil (Brenda, GH), Coltin Scott (Nikolas, GH) 26 mins. Chad sings a bit of "Jailhouse Rock". Vanessa talks about the differences in working with Ingo and Maurice. Note: My tripod extension broke so I had to hoist the tripod up on top of my backpack as I wasn't able to extend it as the lever snapped off from all the use! I was still able to use the tripod but the picture is not as stable as in other events as it was balanced on the backpack but came out better than I thought it would. This is the only event this was an issue as my mechanically inclined hubby joined me after the event and figured out how to extend the tripod even without the lever, he sure was a helpful guy!

Note: My camcorder battery died about 14 minutes into this event, changed batteries quickly. Steve was asked about who he prefers working with...this is when the battery died so his response is not contained...but he doesn't really answer, and doesn't pick a favorite ....says something diplomatic. Chad Brannon (Zander, GH), Tamara Braun (Carly, GH), Wally Kurth (Ned, GH), Vanessa Marcil (Brenda, GH), Coltin Scott (Nikolas, GH) 26 mins. (Stacey taped, good quality). Coltin tells about originally auditioning for Juan. Vanessa talks about kissing Antonio Sabato Jr. and Ricky Martin! She reports her contract is up very soon and is not sure whether or not she will be able to stay as it is difficult to juggle working and having a baby. Taped the motorcade as they departed.

SSW #18 Orlando 2002 Saturday Street Jam 1:28 mins

6:30 pm Saturday night, hosted by Walt Wiley. All the actors arrive on stage, and dance a bit to "Lets Get Loud". (didn't get the arriving motorcade, but did on Sunday night see #19). Wally Kurth and Kurth & Taylor band start off the show. Among the songs they perform are "Freedom", "Barefoot Ballet", "Let It Go". (Changed tapes here during Walt's chatter). Then Kassie DiPaiva performs a new song, "A Beautiful World" (?), then Kassie & Wally do a duet (one of my favorite moments), then Kassie sang "Ordinary Girl" (?). Coltin Scott performed two songs, one was the very popular "Stay". Then Susan Lucci did three songs, "Do You Wanna Dance With Me?" (?), her Emmy song, "Ain't Got that Swing" (?). The show closed to fireworks as Wally, Coltin, and Kassie sang the final song together.

SSW #19 Orlando 2002 Sunday Street Jam 1:29 mins

6:30 Sunday night. This begins with the motorcade as the actors arrive down the main street. They gather on stage and dance to "Lets Get Loud" as confetti streams down. Chad and Tamara dance together - they look great! Chad then does some moves with Alicia Minshew from AMC. Kurth & Taylor start off the concert, they do different songs except for "Barefoot Ballet" which they perform again. (Changed tapes after their performance). Next, Ilene Kristen (Roxy, OLTL) sang "These Boots Are Made For Walking" (?). James DiPaiva came out and she sang to him. Coltin performed next and did a different song, and also performed "Stay" again. This was followed by Kassie and Kirsten Alderson in a duet, "I Can Do Anything You Can Do Better" (?), then Kirsten did a solo, then Kassie did a solo with a song from her new album. (Hearing Kirsten sing was the highlight of the night, she has an amazing voice!) Then Kassie is joined by Wally to repeat the duet they sang Saturday night. Then Kassie sang her new song "A Beautiful World" (?). (I changed tapes again at this point as she thanked Disney staff). The show closed with the finale "America" sang by Kassie, Wally, Coltin, Ilene, Susan, and Kirsten as fireworks go off above.
