Sonny & Carly #30  August 4 – October 12, 2004 - 8 hour original edit

Sam assures Sonny that she's staying in Port Charles but isn't going to try to win him back. Carly pays Sam a visit across the hall at Jason's. She accuses Sam of living with Jason just so she can get close to Sonny again. Sam tells her that she can live on her own and raise a baby as a single mom if she needed to and that she planned on leaving town but Jason stopped her. Carly accuses her of setting up that scenario, knowing how generous and selfless Jason is and how he would want to help her. Sam denies using anyone and asks Carly if she is so insecure that she thinks that Sam could get between her and Sonny again. Carly warns her not to use Jason or she will regret it. Sam kicks Carly out of the apartment.

Sonny and Carly received a visit from Sam's brother Danny, who was looking for Sam. Jason arrived, so Carly took Danny into the kitchen for cookies. Jason let Sonny know that Sam was at the police station, confessing to the fire. Sonny left for the police station, leaving time for Carly and Jason to talk. She said that she understood why Sam was protecting Danny. After Jason left with Max, Courtney arrived, looking for Jason. Carly said she thought Jason and Max were going to Pier 52 to intercept a shipment, and Courtney wanted to know if they could be waiting to ambush Faith. Carly did not know anything about that, and Courtney was worried that Jax might alert the police that Jason was after Faith.

Sonny arrived at the police station. When Sam noticed him, Alexis informed her that it was too late. Ric let his brother know that Sam's confession was on tape, and Sonny asked, in the name of their mother, for Ric to leave with him. Ric agreed but first went to Mac regarding what he knew about the plans against Faith. Assuming Sonny wanted Ric with him as an alibi, Ric played along while Mac got the police ready. Sonny took Ric to the safe house to speak to Danny. They learned that Danny had knocked over lit candles at his mother's house, starting the fire. Knowing Sam had not committed the crime, Ric handed Sam's taped confession over to Sonny, who destroyed it. For once, it seemed as though the brothers were working together.

Carly showed up at the police station and told Sam that Sonny had taken Ric to Danny. Sam was quite upset, but Carly let her know that she wasn't going to let her husband get charged for perjury. Carly later ordered Alexis to keep Ric from filing perjury charges or the truth about Kristina's parentage would be revealed.

At Sam's trial, Ric accuses Sonny of buying a confession from a death row inmate to save Sam from going to jail. Alexis, however, gives a killer argument and gets Sam's conviction overturned. She later overhears a Sonny admitting that Ric was right on the money with his theory.

Carly warned Alexis to use whatever influence she has to get Ric to drop the charges or she'll tell Sonny about Kristina. Alexis was still fuming over Sonny lying to her and urged Carly to go ahead and tell the truth. She said she just wants Sonny behind bars. Carly reminded her that Kristina's safety would be at risk, the world would know, and Sonny could still get visitation from prison. Alexis promised to give the matter her due diligence. Carly then went to see Sam and warned her to keep Sonny and Jason out of her confession. Sam said she was going to prison alone and then they saw Jason come in, under arrest. Carly talked to him and he begged her to leave. Sam, Carly and Jason talked and wondered about Ric's motives. Jason said he was all right and Sam left to see Danny. Jason again asked Carly to leave.

Ric was feeling good about Sonny telling him the truth about Sam and Danny when Mac called Ric to tell him about the yacht. Ric quickly turned on Sonny and accused him of setting him up. They argued and Sonny beseeched him to not use Faith as an excuse to sell out Sam and her brother. Ric agreed not to arrest Danny or go after Sam and to let the confession in Texas stand. He did, however, threaten to send Sonny to prison if he was the one who killed Faith. Jason called Sonny to tell him they'd been set up.

Sonny confronted Alcazar on the pier and accused him of working with Ric to set him up. Lois rushed up to defend Alcazar and wonder why he would blow up his own boat. Lois and Sonny argued about Carly, Alcazar, and life. Sonny asked Alexis for her to help Jason. Alexis wondered how commented on his nerve on asking for a favor after lying to her about the false confession. She pointed her finger at him and warned him she would not be doing him any favors again.

Sonny, Alexis, Ric, Jason, and Carly are all gathered in a heated discussion at the police station when a waterlogged Faith is dragged in, very much alive. Ric questions her motives for running from the scene of the explosion, and Alcazar arrives in time to hear Faith say that she blew up the yacht in order to escape Sonny's death threats. Back at the penthouses, Carly and Sonny bond over their continued efforts to put their marriage back in order.

Jason announced to Sonny that Justus was representing Faith. Sonny worried that Ric would go easy on Faith, baiting Sonny and Jason to go after her. Sonny admitted that he often thought of ways to eliminate Ric but didn't know if he could ever go through with it because of the mother they shared. Sonny questioned Jason about the future with Sam and the baby, apparently concerned with the whole arrangement.

Carly ran into Sam at General Hospital. Carly was there for Morgan's checkup, and Sam was there for a checkup herself. Carly wanted to know if Sam was staying with Jason just to be near Sonny and was obviously jealous of the friendship between Sam and Jason. Dr. Meadows arrived on the scene and mentioned to Sam that she would need the baby's father's medical records, in order to have the proper information in place. When Sam mentioned she could ask Sonny, Carly interrupted and said she would take care of it. When Sam and the doctor walked away, Carly made a promise to Morgan that she was going to take care of all this somehow.

Jason ran into Carly, and they had an uncomfortable meeting. Carly was still mad about Jason's lie, and he boldly asserted that he had done nothing to betray her. Carly snickered when Sam came back and suggested a childbirth seminar with Jason. Later, Carly and Morgan visited with Bobbie. Bobbie warned her daughter not to play the bad guy against Sam. Carly complained about Sam wanting Sonny's medical records, but Bobbie assured her it was for the best to have the complete records of both of the baby's parents. This prompted Carly to ask about her own father, since there were no records for him to use for Michael and Morgan. Carly then mentioned a freckled birthmark that she shared with her sons. Bobbie did not want to discuss it, nor did she want to think about her "customers" from back then.

Sonny showed up at the PCPD and Justus why he would represent a woman who was Sonny's enemy, having tried to kill him. Sonny then ordered him to resign from Faith's case or never do work for him again. Justus refused, citing that nobody could tell him whom he could or could not represent. When Sonny went to visit Faith, she muttered to him that he had won, and then she collapsed with a bloodstain across her shirt.

Sonny informs Alexis and Ric that Faith has been stabbed in her cell. Ric alludes that perhaps Sonny is behind it, and Justus runs to the hospital in disgust. Ric and Sonny continue to argue, and later Sonny is intrigued at seeing Alexis and Carly fighting outside of Kelly's. Sonny inquires about their argument, but the women cover that they are speaking about Kristina.

Later, Carly feels guilt over keeping Kristina's true paternity from Sonny. She asks him for advice on her newfound interest in finding her own birth father. Sonny warns her that it might not be what she wants it to be, but that every child has the right to know his or her father.

Ric continues to taunt Sonny about his children, prompting Sonny to issue a warning that Ric stay away from the Corinthos kids or else Sonny will kill him. Ric replies that Sonny is the only danger to his children, and that he'll make it his mission to put Sonny in prison in order to save the kids. Carly attempts to defend Sonny, but he grabs her arm and the two leave.

Later, Sonny tells Sam that in addition to the arrangements he has for Carly and the boys, he now has a safe house for Sam and their daughter in case something happens to him. Jason walks in on their discussion, and Sonny tells him what he shared with Sam. Sam leaves the two alone, and Jason asks Sonny the location of Sam's house. Sonny refuses to tell Jason, and Jason points out that he knows about Carly's. arrangements. Sonny reminds Jason that Sam's baby is his, not Jason's, and he questions whether Jason is developing boundary issues. He asks if Jason is trying to use Sonny's unborn child to fill the void left in him when Courtney miscarried. Jason is shocked by Sonny's accusation, and tells him he's only trying to do what's best for the kids. Sonny immediately apologizes for his insinuation.

Carly angers Bobbie yet again with her continued questions into the past and about her biological father. Bobby tells Carly that he was a client during her days as a prostitute, and that she has no information on him-and has no desire to find out. She reiterates to Carly what a horrible time it was for her, and implores her to drop the subject and leave things alone. Carly apologizes to her mom, but later raids her nightstand in search of her old diary. She finds it and sees information about a boyfriend that Bobby had. Carly finds that pages have been ripped out, and is sure that the missing pages contained information about her father.

Carly meets with Jason at Kelly's. Jason isn't too pleased with her and tells her it wasn't right for her to call Courtney over to watch Morgan when she knew he could take care of Morgan and that he would see her. Carly apologizes for trying to bring them together that way but asks him to help her find her biological father. She hands Jason Bobbie's diary and asks him to read it and tell her if he senses whether Bobbie may be keeping her father's identity a secret or not. Jason refuses to read Bobbie's diary and asks Carly to tell him what she knows. Carly explains what she found, some young guy's initials and that she thinks her mother had a teen romance with that guy and wonders if he is her real father, not some anonymous john like Bobbie claims. Jason tells Carly to leave it alone because he is worried she will get hurt if it turns out her biological father doesn't want her.

Carly goes to the hospital and shows Bobbie her birth certificate that she had faxed from Florida and asks Bobbie if maybe the birth certificate may jog her memory about who her father could be. Bobbie gets very defensive and asks her to stop trying to find out who her father was and insists it is some john she didn't know. Meanwhile, Sam goes across the hall with Morgan and knocks on Sonny's door. Sonny answers and she thrusts Morgan into Sonny's arms and tells him she can't handle him or any babies. Sonny takes Morgan and brings him upstairs to take a nap. He invites Sam in and tries to reassure her she will make an excellent mother despite her fears that she is incompetent around babies. Sonny offers to help her anytime she needs it. Sam tells him the baby kicked. Sonny touches her stomach and feels their daughter kick. Jason walks in to find them like this. Jason tells Sam that he needs to discuss business with Sonny and doesn't mean to be rude. She takes the hint and tells him she is going to Kelly's for dinner and suggests he meet her there. Jason agrees to meet her there.

After she leaves the room, Jason suggests that Sonny not lead Sam on by spending any more time with her since he thinks she still is in love with him. Sonny wonders what Jason is implying but Jason changes the subject and tells Sonny that Faith escaped from the hospital. Sonny is pleased with that news since it will be easier to have her killed if she is out loose. He orders Jason to find her and kill her and make it look like an accident. Jason worries about Ric but agrees to get rid of her.

Carly comes home and shows Sonny the copy of her birth certificate and asks him if he sees something interesting or not. Sonny notices that where it says the name of her birth father, it looks like something was written and then scratched off and unknown was written over it. Carly suspects that her mother knew who her father was but decided not to reveal it and so scratched it out and wrote unknown instead.

Bobbie visited Sonny at the penthouse and asked him to try to stop Carly from searching for her biological father, stating that it was a bad idea. Carly overheard and wanted to know why Bobbie was afraid. Bobbie insisted that Carly's search would not result in a fairy-tale ending, as her work as a prostitute took place in a cathouse frequented by the dregs of society. Bobbie emotionally spoke about how she had made a good life for herself and did not want her past dragged up and embarrassing her. Sonny took Bobbie's side, saying he did not want heartache to come to Carly. This appeased Bobbie, and she left. Sonny then explained to Carly that he just wanted to keep Bobbie's guard down.

Jason arrived and voiced his concerns that Carly was going to bring herself pain by starting the search. Sonny asked Jason why he was so passionate about the subject. Jason insisted he was merely concerned for Carly, but Carly guessed that he was projecting his loss of raising Michael and also about Courtney's miscarriage. Carly was determined to visit the hospital in Florida where she was born. Sonny told her she could use the jet, and she decided to leave that night. Jason reported to Sonny that Justus would not give up any information about Faith. Sonny said that Justus would have to go down with Faith. Jason was uncomfortable bringing harm to Justus.

Carly claimed to have yet another plan to finding her father. She told Sonny she had found a box at "The Cellar" that belonged to Ruby. Carly and Sonny went to the nightclub and found the box Carly had mentioned. They searched for clues about her father. They found the ledger of Ruby's brothel with names of clients in it. She found three of them with the initials "JD". Carly then had a moment of doubt, but pushed on to discover her father's identity. She thanked Sonny for his offer to help and for his support, but told him this was a journey she would need to take alone, and that she had thought of a shortcut to the truth.

Bobbie met up with Carly at Kelly's. Carly asked for her help but Bobbie refused. She claimed not to know who Carly's father is. Carly told Bobbie that she would not stop looking for her father until she found him.

Sonny visited Sam. Sonny was upset to hear that Sam was ordering books so Jason could read to the baby. It was important for her daughter to know Jason's voice. She told him that she was still in love with him and that Sonny could spend time with his daughter after she was born. It would be too difficult for Sam to have Sonny spend time with her now that the baby was still inside her. Sam told Sonny to stop being selfish and to think of someone else for a change. Jason walked in on them and slammed the door. He asked what was going on.

Jason reminds Sonny that Samantha and her baby will be Jason's responsibility once the baby is born, but Sonny confesses that Sonny believes that Jason is getting too close to Sam and her baby! Sam reminds Sonny that Sonny has his own family and Sam is well aware that Sam's daughter will never be a part of Sonny's family. After Sam reminds Sonny that it will be Jason who will be there on a day-to-day basis for her daughter, Sonny storms away.

Carly meets at The Cellar with Coleman and asks Coleman to help her in her search to locate her biological father. Carly warns Coleman not to contact any of the prospective candidates. When Carly offers Coleman $10,000 for the job, Coleman suggests the favor might be worth some of Carly's "personal" attention, just as Sonny arrives. Carly warns Coleman that he might not live to collect his reward, because her husband just overheard his last remark!

Coleman rushes to explain to Sonny that he was only joking. However, when Coleman tries to apologize to Sonny, Sonny coldly gives Coleman the brush-off. After Coleman leaves, Sonny reminds Carly that Sonny's men would be more reliable than Coleman, but Carly insists that she wants to handle everything herself. Sonny again warns Carly that she could end up being very disappointed when she meets her father and that Carly's father could be the kind of person who would want to "use" Carly's powerful connections for his own gain.

Just as Courtney confides to Carly that she is afraid she will land in bed with Jax and lose her bet, Sonny returns and overhears. Sonny warns Courtney that getting too close to Jax will turn out to be a major mistake. Courtney reluctantly explains her bet with Jax to Sonny. When Sonny demands to know if Jax is pressuring her, Courtney begs Sonny not to hurt Jax and Sonny promises not to interfere with Courtney's life.

After Sonny leaves, Carly warns Courtney that Sonny was entirely too calm about Courtney's bet with Jax to presume that Sonny actually plans to forget about Jax's bet. Later, Sonny tracks Jax down at Kelly's and warns Jax that Jax will be a dead man if Jax touches Courtney. Jax retorts that making threats appears to be Sonny's answer to everything. Sonny orders Jax to go look up one of Jax's old girlfriends and leave Sonny's sister alone, but Jax protests that he actually cares about Courtney and Jax's interest in Courtney has nothing to do with Sonny.

Later, as Courtney tries to convince Carly to help her resist Jax's charms, Jax arrives at The Cellar. When Jax learns that Courtney and Carly were thinking about going to Atlantic City, Jax announces that JAX also plans to go to Atlantic City. Carly is surprised when Courtney accepts Jax's plan and agrees to meet Jax later in Atlantic City. However, after Jax leaves, Courtney explains to an amused Carly that, while Jax heads to Atlantic City, Courtney will be busy, going somewhere else! Carly arranges for Sonny's jet to take Courtney to Sonny's Island.

Later, when Carly meets again with Coleman, Coleman reports that two of the prospects on Carly's list are dead. The third prospect would have been about seventeen years old when he knew Bobbie. Coleman further reports that the third prospect lives in an expensive neighborhood in Manhattan. After Coleman collects his $10,000 and reminds Carly to keep him in mind if she needs any more similar jobs done, Sonny arrives and again warns Carly not to get her hopes up about finding a warm, fuzzy father who will be happy to welcome his illegitimate daughter into his life.

Ric calls Sonny over to the police station. He informs him that the police believe that Justus is helping Faith hide out somewhere since he disappeared when she did from the Quartermaine estate. He asks Sonny if they can trace his accounts in case Justus tries to get money from them to help in Faith's escape. Sonny tells Ric that Justus doesn't work for him any longer and that he will not let him near his accounts since he doesn't trust him to use them to nail him for some charges. Ric tells him he isn't interested in getting him on anything right now. Sonny doesn't believe him and points out that Ric needs him in his life to feel important but not vise-versa.

Jason tells Sonny he is concerned about Carly going to New York to find her biological father who doesn't know she exists and that he fears she is setting herself up to be hurt. Sonny understands Jason's worries but supports Carly's decision to want to find her father and get to know him. Sonny feels strongly about this issue because Sam is carrying his child and he wants his child to know him. Sonny asks Sam to leave him alone to talk to Jason about business. Sam goes upstairs. Sonny tells Jason that Faith has disappeared again and that Justus is probably helping her hide out since she isn't in good health to travel right now. He tells Jason to find Justus and Faith before the cops do and call him if he finds out anything. Jason leaves.

Sam asks Sonny if he sent Jason off so he can talk to her alone to corner her about Jason. He tells her he wanted to talk to her alone though. He tells her that he understands that Jason wants to help with the baby but that he will be the baby's father and not Jason. Sam tells him that he will be the father but Jason will be around the baby more than he will.

Sam and Sonny argue about his involvement in their unborn child's life, along with Jason's involvement. When Sonny said that he loved Jason like a brother, Sam countered that she had seen Sonny's version of love. She accused him of being devoted and protective until loving someone got in the way. He swore he would decide how much time he spent with his own daughter. Jason arrived, and Sam was asked to go upstairs so he and Sonny could discuss business.

Jason told Sonny that Justus had said he wasn't helping Faith. Jason also said he didn't believe Justus but that he wasn't having Justus followed. Sonny wanted to know why. Jason said that he wanted Justus to have a chance not to be with Faith when Faith was found. Jason reminded Sonny how they had pulled Justus out of the monastery to defend Sonny in court. Sonny blew up, stating he didn't want to hear about that. He was mad that Jason wouldn't follow his orders, and he said that he wanted Faith killed-if Justus was with her, and then he needed be killed, too. Sonny continually asked if Jason was going to do as instructed, and Jason finally agreed. Perturbed, Sonny left.

Carly showed up outside a building in New York City, and, when she tried to enter, was stopped by the doorman. She stated she was there to see John Durant, but the doorman said only family was allowed to enter. The doorman said everybody wanted to see Durant, and, when Carly asked why, she was shown a newspaper article and learned that Durant was a federal prosecutor who had just brought down a Soho drug syndicate. Carly tried bribing her way into the building, but the doorman told her Durant wasn't even there. She did get the information out of him that perhaps she should visit Paddy Mac's Place, a local Irish pub.

When she arrived there, an interview with John Durant appeared on the TV. John stated that the media needed to quit glamorizing the mob and realize the mob for the parasites and terrorists that they are. When asked if he feared retribution, he said it was the gangsters who should be afraid. Another man in the bar appeared very interested in the telecast as well. Durant and some co-workers arrived. Suddenly, the man at the bar pulled a gun on Durant, but Carly, on instinct, grabbed the man's arm and kept anyone from getting hurt. The other men took the gunman away, and John thanked Carly. She then claimed to be a law student who had hoped to run into him there for an interview. She wanted to get some personal background information, rather than everything that was already in the papers. He mentioned that he had grown up an army brat and loved beaches, so he had enjoyed his time in Florida. As the questions persisted, Durant finally asked Carly who she really was and what she really wanted!

Sonny stays overnight at the hotel where Carly is staying in New York. He has breakfast sent up for them when she wakes up. A knock on the door claiming it is room service after breakfast was already sent up makes Sonny suspicious. Carly answers the door to find Coleman on the other side with a file folder in his hand. She tells him to come back later. Sonny comes over and opens the door to find Coleman there. Carly grabs the folder out of Coleman's hand. Sonny hands Coleman some cash to pay for his investigative work in helping Carly possibly find her father. Coleman tells them that the guy he found lived in Florida during the time that Carly could have been conceived. Sonny dismisses Coleman.

Carly tries to keep Sonny from finding out about John Durant, the federal prosecutor that is after the mob and who could very well be her real father. She tells him she doesn't know if she wants to keep looking for her father and worries that her biological father may not like her or want her in his life. Sonny asks her to let him read the file Coleman brought to her. She reluctantly agrees to let him read it. He reads the file and mentions there is another name with J.D. as the initials besides  John Durant. Carly sighs with relief. Sonny tells her that according to the file the man is a sanitation worker who owns his own home with a wife and two kids and sounds like a good man. Carly tells Sonny she isn't sure she is ready to meet anyone right now. Sonny respects her decision. Carly tells him she wants to have some time alone to think about what she wants to do next. Sonny leaves for a while.

Carly gets a surprising phone call from John Durant. He apologizes for being a jerk the other night at the bar and that he would like to meet with her at the same bar to talk. Carly accepts his invitation. She heads to the bar. Sonny returns to her room and reads the New York Post front-page article on John Durant. He hears a noise near the door and goes over to investigate. He waits near the side of the door and Coleman walks into the room. Sonny grabs him suddenly and throws him against the door and demands to know what he really found out about Carly's father.

Carly meets Durant at the bar. He tells her that she can ask him about his background for her new novel if she wants to. She takes out her pen and notebook. She asks him about his private life. He tells her that he was married once to some woman but they have been divorced for a while. He admits he is married to his work. Carly asks him if he was ever in love with his wife or anyone else. He tells her he has always been in love with his work more than with a woman. He does admit he was in love once a long time ago back when he lived in Florida as a young man. Carly asks him if he ever had any regrets. He tells her that his only regret was he never had any children. She tells him that since he lived in a lot of places he could have fathered a child and didn't know it. He considers her point.

Sonny tried to figure out if Coleman was lying to Carly about her father, just to collect a paycheck. Meanwhile, Carly was at the Irish pub speaking with Durant again. At first, they were watched by a young man at the bar, who left and ended up breaking into Carly's hotel room. Hearing somebody (Sonny), he rushed out. Carly tried to find out about past loves in Durant's life, and he wondered why her questions were so personal. She continued pretending to be a novelist trying to get background for a character. Durant mentioned one regret: never having children, and Carly suggested that, since he had traveled the world and been a bit wild in the past, perhaps he had a child somewhere. Durant still wondered about her questions and accused her of not being whom she claimed. In a huff, Carly left.

When she went back to Sonny at the hotel, she allowed Sonny to believe the lie that Coleman had come up with, about another man, in Queens, being her father. She said she had met him without revealing her identity but didn't want to get any closer for now; she just wanted to go home. When the young man returned to the bar, Durant gave him Carly's beer bottle and told him to find out whatever he could about her. He later returned with DNA information linking her to Durant. He also announced that she was married to public enemy number one, Michael "Sonny" Corinthos. While Sonny was in the shower in the hotel room, Carly heard a knock at the door. When she answered, John Durant was there!

With Sonny only feet away in the shower, Carly is shocked to find her father knocking on the hotel room door. John apologizes for his earlier gruffness, and wants to make amends. Hoping to get rid of him before Sonny sees him, Carly tells John that she'll meet him at the bar in twenty minutes. Sonny soon emerges from the bathroom and asks who was at the door. Carly covers, saying it was the maid, and then tells him she's decided to go shopping after all. Sonny correctly guesses that she's really going after her father, and gives her money for her search.

Meanwhile, Steven informs John that the DNA tests prove that Carly is related to him, but don't say how. John tells him he'll figure it out, and then he plans to use her to put Sonny in prison. Carly shows up to meet with John, and he continues to be nice to her. She's suspicious of his behavior, but he assures her it's only to help her with her book. Once he lays out his tough-on-the-mob agenda to her, she changes her mind about wanting to know her father and decides she's heard enough. Carly thanks John, and quickly leaves. She returns to the hotel to find an angry Sonny. He explains that he just caught a federal agent, posing as a maid, bugging their room. Carly is stunned when he tells her that John Durant is clearly coming after him.

Sonny finds Sam at work in Jason's apartment and demands to know why he wasn't notified when she was taken to the hospital. Sam blows her top at him, and tells him it was a false alarm. She reminds him that he was in Manhattan with his wife, and that he needs to back off. Jason arrives, and Sam storms out of the apartment. Before Sonny can go off again, Jason asks him to take it easy on Sam and cut her some slack. Sonny continues to feel left out of his unborn child's life, but Jason makes him see reason by explaining that Sam is having a difficult enough time getting over Sonny.

Carly, with boys in tow, runs into Steven on the docks. She asks about Sonny's ship, and the two strike up a conversation. Unbeknownst to Carly, Steven is reporting all of her actions back to John. Carly informs him that she knows his family, but isn't the best of pals with his sister, Liz. Steven smiles and tells her that he'll make up his own mind, and that he plans to try and get a job at GH. Carly is intrigued by the doctor, but thinks nothing more of it. Later, she tells Sonny about their meeting and says he seemed innocent enough. Sonny then confronts her on why she didn't give the check he wrote to her father.

Jason heads to Sonny's penthouse and reports that Alexis plans to use Sonny's many threats against Faith's life as Faith's defense. Sonny admits that Alexis has them in a corner. If Jason denies threatening Faith, it will be perjury and Alexis will be sure to produce witnesses who know about the threats. But if Jason admits the truth, Ric will be able to go after Jason for attempted murder. Sonny suggests that they get rid of Faith Before the trial, but Jason warns that Ric may be hoping they will try to eliminate Faith while Faith is in custody and then Ric would be able to nab Jason and Sonny for making a move on Faith while she is in police custody. Sonny finally manages to see Faith and surprises Faith when he declares that IF Faith goes ahead and takes Ric's plea bargain without going to trial, Sonny will give his word that Faith will be safe in prison.

At the PCPD, Ric is surprised when Steven Lars informs Ric that Steven is looking for a job. When Ric tells Steven Lars that there are not openings for a forensics expert at the PCPD, Steven Lars intrigues Ric when Steven hints that he is able to deliver what Ric wants. When Ric continues to give Steven the brush off, Steven mentions that he has relatives in Port Charles and Ric realizes that Steven Lars Webber is Elizabeth's brother and, therefore, Ric's former brother-in-law! Steven admits that he know all about Ric's vendetta against Ric's mob-boss brother, Sonny Corinthos. Although Steven hints that he would be able to help Ric, Ric leaps to the conclusion that Steven might be moonlighting with Internal Affairs and suggests that Steven return to Manhattan instead. Later, Steven reports to Durant that Ric did not want Steven's help on his staff and Durant declares that they will now need to play hard-ball with Ric. Later, Durant calls Ric and tries to convince Ric that he is being presented with a golden opportunity to hire a forensics expert like Steven Webber, but Ric also gives Durant the brush off.

Steven Webber shows up at Jake's bar. He meets Coleman who serves him a drink. Carly shows up at Jake's after the limo gets a flat tire and the driver is out fixing it. She sees Steven and asks him what he is doing hanging out at this kind of bar. He tries to hide that he is upset but tells her he wanted a drink after seeing his estranged mother Heather earlier. He tells her that he never bonded with his mother and that he wishes she wasn't in town to bother him. Carly can relate to that. Steven suggests a game of pool and that the loser has to keep drinking shots while the winner doesn't have to drink at all. Steven ends up losing several games to Carly and gets drunk. They sit and talk. Carly tells him about how she was adopted and that Bobbie is her biological mother and how she came to town to find her and that she tried to pay her back for putting her up for adoption but that it wasn't worth it and now she is close to her mother. Steven suggests she may have gotten her talent for pool playing from her biological father and asks her if she knows him. Carly looks at him suspiciously but leaves it alone. She tells Steven she will give him a ride to Kelly's for coffee to sober him up. Coleman warns Steven to not go with Carly because Sonny may find out about it and hurt him. Carly takes Steven to Kelly's for coffee.

John Durant shows up at Ric's office and catches him making out with Alexis on top of his desk. He introduces himself to Alexis. Alexis is totally embarrassed and just shakes his hand without telling him her name. She takes off. John Durant tells Ric that he should hire his former forensic pathologist since it looks like he needs all the help he can get since Port Charles has built a reputation for being inviting to the mafia families in the state. Ric asks him why he is trying so hard to push Steven Webber into working for the police.

Later, Ric finds Steven outside of Kelly's talking to Carly. Ric acts all polite to Carly. Carly tells Ric she has not interest in talking to him. Ric tells her he came to talk to Steven. Steven suggests they talk somewhere private. Ric tells him that he doesn't mind if Carly hears what he has to tell him. Ric tells Steven he has been hired and welcomes him to the PCPD.

After Ric leaves, Carly gets angry and asks him if he is a cop. He tries to explain that he is a forensics specialist and a medical doctor not a cop. Carly doesn't believe him and accuses him of trying to get close to her and her children as a way to get to Sonny. She tells him to stay away from her children and herself and that she has no use for cops in her life. Later, Carly runs into John Durant literally as she is heading toward the docks. She is shocked to see him. John Durant surprises her even more when he refers to her by her real name. Steven goes back to Jake's and asks Coleman to serve him a soda. He asks Coleman to tell him what he knows about Carly.

Sonny goes to see Faith in the visitor's room. He tells her she will safe from being killed by him or Jason as long as she accepts the plea bargain and doesn't testify in court to incriminate Jason or him. Faith doesn't believe him at first. He tells her that she should worry still since she is very good at making enemies but promises on his word that he won't try to have her killed in prison. Sonny leaves and Alexis asks Justus what is going on when Justus tells Sonny he won't be sorry for agreeing not to kill her in prison. Alexis warns Sonny about trying to intimidate her client. Sonny tells her she needs to button up her blouse after it is unbuttoned enough to be embarrassing. Sonny taunts her about her apparent fling with Ric and asks her if she had sex with Ric on his desk. Ric overhears Alexis lie to Sonny and tell him how great a lover Ric is and how he rocks her body and soul. Sonny enjoys their banter. Ric comes up behind Alexis and tells Sonny that Alexis is a great lover as well as a great attorney. Alexis tells Sonny that he and Ric have something else in common, that they are both egotistical pigs.

As Faith was escorted from the PCPD to the prison van, she swore revenge against those who had wronged her. Ric asked Sonny how long it would be before Faith was found dead. Sonny swore to Justus that Faith was safe from him, since she had accepted the plea bargain and the prison time.

Sonny had documents drawn up that, with Sam's signature, would acknowledge him as the baby's father and give him shared custody. He ordered Jason to get Sam to sign them. Jason suggested backing off Sam for a while, but Sonny insisted. Jason gave Sam the papers, and she was not happy with them.

Coleman warned Steven to stay away from Carly, the wife of Sonny Corinthos. He used Sonny's shooting of Alcazar as an example. Later, Coleman called Sonny to give him some information. Carly and Durant ran into each other on the docks, sending Carly into a panic wondering what he was doing in Port Charles. Jason knew something was upsetting her, but she would not admit what it was. Durant told Steven that, if Carly should turn out to be his daughter, then he would use her to bring down Sonny. Steven ran into Carly on the docks. She did not want to speak to him again and fell walking away. Steven realized she had hurt her hand and continued in an attempt to befriend her. He took her to the hospital to help with her hand, and, as Carly continued to tell him that they could not be friends, Sonny arrived in the doorway.

Sonny questions what Steven wants from Carly, and Steven quickly explains that he met her on the docks and only knows her from a friendly game of pool. He tells Sonny that she hurt her wrist and he was simply helping her, but Sonny isn't convinced of the man's innocence. Carly reminds Sonny that she mentioned Steven to him, and Steven admits to Sonny that he is also working for the PCPD. Sonny erupts, telling Steven that he doesn't like cops around him or his wife, and Steven assures them both that he has no interest in coming after Sonny.

Later, Sonny chastises Carly for hanging out with a cop, but she defends herself to him. Bobbie shows up later to check out Carly's wrist, and Carly apologizes to her for upsetting her over the situation of finding Carly's father. Bobbie asks what changed, and Carly covers by saying she decided she didn't know him this long, why bother finding him now. Bobbie doesn't buy her act, however, and quickly asks her daughter if she knows who her father is.

John steals a postcard that Bobbie has mailed to Carly, and gives it to Steven for a DNA analysis of the stamp. Steven takes it to the hospital, and does the tests. His results show a 100% positive match that Carly is Bobbie and John's daughter. Later Steven believes that John is only using Carly to get to Sonny; Steven balks and lies to John, telling him that Carly is not his daughter.

Sonny demands that Jason gets Sam to sign the papers, but Jason tells her Sam is scared and is refusing. A later visit from Sam only makes the situation worse. She yells at Sonny for his controlling ways, and tells him that he cannot buy her child away from her. Sonny tries to explain that he simply wants a legal right to the baby, but Sam won't let him steamroll over her.

Jason interrupts Sonny and Sam's fight over the custody papers, and declares that he's had enough. Sonny tries to force him to make Sam sign the documents, but Jason tells her she doesn't have to sign anything. Sonny and Jason begin to fight, and Sam tells them she doesn't want them at each other's throats because of her. She leaves the men to finish discussing the situation, and Jason implores Sonny to for once back off and not frighten Sam into running away with the unborn baby.

John is stunned to hear that the DNA tests that Steven ran prove that Carly is not his daughter. Meanwhile, Carly finds Bobbie at GH, and lets her know that she no longer needs to find her father. Bobbie is suspicious, and asks what Carly has discovered. Carly covers and claims she just doesn't need a new family figure to mess up her life. Bobbie hugs her, and lets her know that she has plenty of people already in her life who love her very much.

John arrives at GH in search of Carly, and Liz tells him that she left. Carly narrowly misses running into John, and overhears him as he pretends to inquire about Carly's mom, feigning forgetfulness over her name. Liz is happy to inform him that Carly's mom is Bobbie Spenser. John leaves the hospital and goes to Kelly's where he sees Bobbie. He immediately calls Steven to meet him, and then tells him that he knows Carly's mother, and he knows that he slept with her 29 years prior. He finds it odd that she has a daughter who was born soon after that has tracked him down. Knowing he has been caught, Steven admits that Carly is John's father. He tells John that he was protecting hi from his own agenda to use Carly. Steven reminds John what its like to hate one's own parent, and asks if he really wants to cause that to happen to Carly. John pauses and considers his actions.

Carly panics after seeing her father at GH, and immediately rushes home to confess to Sonny. She tells him she's been lying, and admits that she thinks John Durant might be her father. Sonny is shocked, but understands why she kept it from him. She warns Sonny to watch himself and do what he must against John, and that she has no interest in bringing a father into her life that will destroy the family she's built with Sonny. As the two continue to discuss the situation, John arrives at the door. As a stunned Carly stands by, Sonny greets John by asking if he's there on federal business or to see his daughter.

Sonny demands to know what Durant wants at Sonny's penthouse, Sonny and Carly are both surprised when Durant announces that he only came to see his daughter. When Carly asks Durant when he became aware of their relationship, Durant admits that he realized Carly had an agenda from the first time Carly approached him, and did a DNA test to figure out what kind of agenda Carly was pursuing. However, Sonny accuses Durant of being interested in Carly only because the prosecutor is looking for a free pass into the life of someone whom Durant hopes to send to prison. Durant argues that it is important for him to get to know the only family he has. Durant declares that he doesn't want to argue with Sonny but that he is headed to Carly's club, The Cellar, for dinner and will be available to his daughter if Carly wants to talk.

After Durant leaves, Sonny warns Carly that she will be better off if she never goes near her father again. Later, Carly admits that she feels she must get to know her father in spite of the danger Durant presents, and Sonny reluctantly tells Carly to go ahead and meet Durant, but to be careful. Carly promises that she will be cautious around Durant. After Carly leaves, Sonny goes across the hall to talk with Jason. When Jason comes to the door, Sonny announces that 'We have a problem.'

Sonny explains to Jason that the mob prosecutor, John Durant, is Carly's biological father. When Sonny explains that Durant apparently conducted a conclusive DNA test on Carly, Jason suggests that they should get a second test done, but Sonny confides that he believes it would be impossible to get Durant to sit still for such an undertaking. Sonny tells Jason that Sonny is convinced that they need to get Carly's father out of their lives.

Carly meets with John at The Cellar. Carly warns John that any enemy of her husband will be an enemy of Carly's. John assures Carly that he has only honorable intentions where his only child is concerned. When Carly admits that she is still suspicious of Durant's motives, John urges Carly to just trust him. At the same time, Sonny tracks Mike down at Kelly's and confides his discovery that Durant is Carly's biological father and his concern that Durant is up to no good where Carly is concerned. Mike agrees that, so long as Carly's father is a threat to Sonny, Durant is also a threat to Carly. Carly admits to Durant that Carly made a lot of mistakes where Bobbie was concerned and confides that Carly does not want to repeat the same mistakes now that she has discovered her father. Carly and John decide to cut their meeting short, but John gives Carly a reassuring hug as she leaves.

Jason arrives at The Cellar. After Durant leaves, Jason phones a report in to Sonny. Later, Jason meets with Carly and tries to convince Carly to stay away from Durant. Durant makes a cell phone call to his office and orders his office to deliver some files to him immediately. Durant is shocked when he turns around and finds himself suddenly facing Sonny. Sonny confronts John Durant on the docks about his hidden agenda regarding Carly. John denies he is using Carly to get closer to his organization to try and take him down. Sonny doesn't believe him and tells him to stay away from Carly and go back to Manhattan. John refuses to leave and insists on hearing what Carly wants first.

Carly tells Jason about her father. Jason warns her not to put too much trust in what Durant says to her since he most likely is trying to bring down Sonny and him instead. Carly has a hard time just letting go of the idea of having a relationship with her father and tells Jason that John may be telling the truth and only wants to get to know her.

Sonny brings Durant back to the penthouse to talk to Carly. Carly is surprised to see John with Sonny. John asks her what she wants out of their relationship. Carly is confused about her feelings for her father. Sonny brings up the fact that John could be using her to get closer to his organization. Carly can't ignore the possibility that John may be using her. She tells John that she can't have him in her life since he could very well be out to get Sonny and she doesn't trust him enough to know it for sure. John takes her rejection very calmly but raises the point that he never got a chance to meet his grandsons and if she can live with the fact that they won't get to know their own grandfather. Carly points out that the boys have a grandfather already.

John meets up with Steven to tell him that Carly put up a brick wall to his plan because of her husband's influence. Steven suggests he goes after Sonny without Carly's involvement. John tells him that he isn't stopped by setbacks and will find a way to get close to Carly again. John shows up at GH and finds Bobbie at the nurses' station. He approaches her and calls her "Barbara" and tells her he would like to talk to her about their daughter Carly.

Sonny tells a tearful Carly that he won't hold her to her promise to keep John out of her life. He tells her he doesn't mind if she sees her father and gets to know him a little but that there can be no secret meetings between them and that they don't keep any secrets from each other. Carly thanks him for being so understanding and promises to not keep anything from him about her father again.

Durant said to Steven that he would not leave town until he put Sonny behind bars and that he would use whatever means necessary to do so, whether it involved his daughter or other avenues. Sonny had Jason search Durant's hotel room, but nothing was found indicating a plan against Sonny. Carly spoke to Bobbie, who admitted that she had actually been pretty sure all along that Durant was Carly's father. Carly wondered why Bobbie had lied, and Bobbie's reasons were much like Carly's fears that Durant could cause trouble for Carly's family. Bobbie said that he had been a regular customer of hers back in Florida and that she did have feelings for him back then that were unreturned. Bobbie had even told Durant's girlfriend about his trips to the cathouse. Because of that, John had told Bobbie he never wanted to see her again and moved from Florida soon after, right before Bobbie had learned of the pregnancy.

Carly received a call from Jason that Morgan was being brought to the ER. She and Bobbie rushed to meet with Sonny, Jason, Michael, and Morgan. Morgan had a high fever and started convulsing. The doctor said that it was an acute infection, but he could not identify it. However, he said there was a new doctor on staff who likely would be able to do so. That doctor was Steven. Sonny stated to Jason that he felt Steven and Durant were connected and wondered if Dr. Webber would be using the situation with Morgan to further infiltrate the family.

On another floor, Bobbie ran into Durant and advised him to take it slow with Carly; otherwise, he would never get the chance to know his daughter. Later, though, he found Carly and Michael in the chapel. Carly hesitantly introduced Michael to his grandfather. Steven announced to Sonny that Morgan had indeed contracted a rare bacterial infection. Steven had medicine that would help, but Sonny ordered him to stay away! Carly introduces John to Michael, and explains that he is Michael's grandfather. After helping with the boy's confusion, John sits with him in the chapel and says a prayer for Morgan.

Back in the emergency unit, Sonny refuses to allow Steven to give Morgan the medicine. Steven warns Sonny that Morgan will die without it, and Jason tells Sonny to let Steven do his job. Carly, Michael, and John return and Sonny is not only stunned to see John's presence, but to also hear Michael refer to him as "grandpa." Carly takes Michael in to be with Morgan, and Sonny warns John that he won't allow him to use his family. Carly has Michael get Sonny and bring him into Morgan's room and they are all relieved to see the medicine begin to work. John is equally relieved, but Jason isn't convinced that the man is innocent.

Jason sees John thanking Steven for his good work, and he warns the two that he will not let them take Sonny down. Back in Morgan's room, Carly's relief at seeing her son live and be around to see his own father convinces her that she must allow herself to get to know her own. She shares her wishes with Sonny, and he understands her need, but has no desire to let John use his wife and children to put him in prison.

Jason warns John to stay away from Carly, but John refuses to buy into his intimidations. John tells him that while Sonny is his son in law, Jason means nothing to him and John vows to take him down if he gets in the way of his relationship with Carly. Carly overhears the men's exchange, and warns John herself. She tells her father that Jason protects her from everything, including herself, and she has far more trust and faith in him than she ever will in her father. Jason excuses himself to take Michael home, but Carly continues to tell John she has doubts about a future for the two of them. John tries to explain the situation, but Carly can't be sure she can trust him. She turns to Steven for advice, telling him a father she could count on was a dream she's had since she was a child. She asks Steven to be honest with her and tell her the truth about what John is after. Before he can, however, Jason returns and orders Steven away from Carly. Carly tells Jason he was out of line, but Jason continues to warn her to keep as far from Steven and John as she can.

Later, John reminds Steven to be sure to try and use his friendship with Carly to pump her full of good thoughts about John. Steven is clearly annoyed at the request to use Carly, and tells John that he'll do his best. John then runs into Michael who has spent the evening at home, getting pumped full of information on John by Jason. Michael uses the opportunity with his grandfather to tell John that he's evil and to stay away from him and his family. John is shocked by Michael's change of attitude, and Carly is stunned when she comes upon her son yelling at John. She orders Michael to behave and watch his manners, but Michael tells her that John is bad and that he isn't a family member anymore than AJ is. Carly demands to know who told Michael such information, and Jason happily informs her that it was him.

At the hospital, as John and Michael look on, Carly orders Jason to tell Michael that Jason's problem is with Durant's job and not with John himself. However, Jason refuses. Sonny arrives in the middle of the argument, and Michael immediately tattles that John wants to put Sonny in prison and Jason agrees with Michael's report about Durant's intentions. Sonny refuses to tell Michael that Michael's new grandfather is okay, but Sonny does reassure Michael that Sonny will not be going anywhere, and then sends Michael off to be with Leticia in Morgan's room.

After Michael leaves, John reminds Sonny that Durant's job is to prosecute criminals and John asks if Sonny is making an admission of guilt when Sonny presumes that Durant intends to send Sonny to prison. Later, in Morgan's room, Michael asks Jason to continue warning Carly about Durant and Jason promises that he will continue attempting to persuade Carly. After Jason leaves, Michael tells Morgan that their new grandfather is a bad man and confides that Michael has a plan that will keep Carly away from Durant for good.

John tells Sonny that he has no plans to actively go after Sonny because Carly's presence would be a conflict of interest for John. After Sonny remains suspicious, John insists that he will not lose touch with his only daughter over one criminal, even when that criminal is Sonny Corinthos. After Durant leaves, Carly admits that she wants to believe that her father is telling the truth. As Sonny and Carly argue about Carly's need to know her father, Carly suddenly asks Sonny what Sonny would do if Sonny suddenly discovered that he had a child he never knew about. Sonny admits that he would hate everyone who had kept him from learning the truth but would still love the child. Sonny and Carly's argument is interrupted when Courtney calls to report that Michael has announced his plan to move in permanently with Courtney.

Sonny and Carly track Jason down to send Jason to collect Michael at Courtney's apartment, but Jason refuses, admitting that he believes that Michael is right about refusing to return home until Durant is out of their lives for good. Jason points out that Durant went to Bobbie after Carly had already told Durant that Carly wanted nothing to do with Durant. Carly retorts that Jason's suspicions have been brought about by the fact that Jason does not love his own father. Carly immediately apologizes, but Jason coldly declares that he will go fetch Michael. After Jason leaves, Carly admits to Sonny that she does not know what she is saying half the time. Sonny points out that that is exactly the reason why Carly should not be talking to Durant.

In Morgan's Hospital room, Carly suggests that they let John visit Morgan, but Sonny refuses to even consider the possibility. Sonny tells Carly that Carly can see John any time she wants, but Sonny wants the Federal prosecutor nowhere near Sonny's children. Sonny and Carly bring Morgan home after Sonny makes it clear to Steven that even though he is grateful to him for taking care of his son and saving his life he doesn't want Steven anywhere near his wife or children. Carly apologizes to Jason for what she said to him earlier at the hospital about his own estranged relationship with his father but wants him to stop trash talking her father to Michael anymore. Jason agrees not to talk about John to Michael anymore. Sonny tells Carly he doesn't want her father to have any contact with their children but tells her she can see her father anytime she wants.

Carly receives a photo album that John sends to her home. She realizes it is a family album of his. She finds a picture of her grandmother that looks just like her. Sonny worries that Carly is already attached to the idea of being in her father's life. Jason reassures Sam that he and Courtney aren't back together and that she can live there as long as she wants. John Durant asks Steven to use his friendship with Carly to find out more about her and her marriage to Sonny. Steven surprises John by refusing to spy on Carly for him and stick to forensic work only.

John meets with Alcazar and blackmails him into helping him bring Sonny down by using possible DNA evidence that links him to Mary's murder against him. Alcazar is surprised when John informs him that he is Carly's father and wants her out of Sonny's life eventually. Alcazar warned Sonny and Jason about Durant's plans. Sonny was not interested in working with Alcazar against Durant, though.

Carly visited with Durant to thank him for the family album. She learned that his mother had been a judge who was murdered by a crime family after sentencing a member of the crime family to prison. Sonny interrupted and asked to speak to Durant alone. Sonny said he knew about the plan with Alcazar, but Durant denied the whole thing. Sam hounds Sonny to make his wife give up on a relationship with her father before it hurts them all. Sonny tells her that it's none of her business, but Sam lets him know that she plans to make anyone who is a threat to Jason her business. She annoys Sonny by demanding he take action to protect Jason, and she refuses to back down regardless of what Sonny wants.

Sonny informs Carly of Alcazar's visit, and the news that John tried to use him to take Sonny down. Carly is skeptical that its nothing more than a new ploy of Alcazar's to get at Sonny, but Sonny thinks that Durant really is behind it all. Carly confronts Alcazar herself, and he warns her that her father is out to destroy her husband. He assures her that he's come to terms with the breakup of their relationship, and the he is not out to cause problems himself, but rather warned Sonny for Carly's benefit. Carly decides that she needs to test John to see if he's really wanting to get to know her, or simply using her as a means to destroy Sonny. She briefly discusses it with Bobbie, who warns her to not try any tricks, but rather wait things out and see how they work out with John. Carly ignores her mother, however, and returns to the penthouse to ask Sonny's help in testing John.

Federal Prosecutor John Durant meets Bobbie at the Hospital and asks Bobbie for her help in establishing a relationship with Carly. As Steven listens in, John tells Bobbie that there are other gangsters he can target, and that he plans to leave Sonny Corinthos strictly alone, so long as Sonny is married to Durant's daughter. Bobbie reluctantly agrees to meet Durant and Carly at Kelly's later. After Bobbie leaves, Durant confides to Steven that he will do whatever it takes to put Sonny behind bars. Steven warns Durant that if John uses his own daughter to put her husband in prison, Durant will live to regret it. Durant argues that he will be doing his daughter a favor by putting away one of the biggest crime bosses in the Northeast.

Sonny tells Carly that he knows of a way Carly can set John up if Carly is serious about testing her father's sincerity. Later, Sonny shows Carly and Jason a picture that Michael drew on the back of a sheet of Sonny's letterhead with a letter about a shipment that does not exist. Sonny suggests that Carly take Michael's drawing to Durant and see if Durant notices the letter on the back and pounces on the non-existent shipment. Jason argues that, since they already know that John is in town to make a bust, the 'test' will be pointless. Carly argues that she just wants to give Durant a chance to prove that he sincerely wants a relationship with his daughter. Jason storms away. After Jason leaves, Sonny reminds Carly that she could be endangering everyone who is close to her in order to pursue a relationship with a father that Carly herself is not sure should be trusted. A guilty look passes over Carly's face when Sonny admits that Sonny would hate to know that he had a child out there that Sonny had not had a chance to see grow up.

Jason meets with Durant and offers to give Durant information about activities of rival mobsters in Chicago and Miami in exchange for Durant telling Carly that John is no longer interested in getting to know his daughter. Durant reminds Jason that if Sonny's competition in Chicago and Miami knew that Jason was ratting them out to a Federal Prosecutor, Jason would be dead by morning. Jason is surprised when Durant turns down Jason's offer, insisting again that John has no plans to try to use his own daughter to send Carly's husband to prison. Jason accuses Durant of being too interested in arresting Sonny to go after bigger game, and storms away.

Carly assures Sonny that she believes her father is sincere about just wanting to get to know his daughter. Carly leaves for her meeting with Durant, taking along a handful of Michael's drawings. She includes the drawing with the planted information about the non-existent shipment. After Carly leaves, Jason returns and reports to Sonny that Durant turned down the chance to bring down major mob figures in Chicago and Miami, so Durant's only target is Sonny.

Durant meets with Carly and Bobbie at Kelly's. Carly is surprised when she learns that Durant likes iced tea and lemonade together, the same way that Carly does. Carly shows Bobbie and John the pictures that Michael drew. Durant flips past the picture drawn on the back of Sonny's letter about the non-existent shipment without batting an eye. Jason warns Sonny that Sonny may have to be the one who kills Carly's father in order to protect Sonny's family. Carly leaves Kelly's, deliberately leaving behind Michael's picture, drawn on the back of Sonny's letter. Then Carly watches from the window when John picks up the letter and examines it.

Carly watched to see if her father John would take the bait she left for him with help from Sonny. Alcazar warns her not to trust her father when it comes to Sonny. Durant told Steven about the information Carly unknowingly left for him and how he plans to bust Sonny tonight. Steven advised him not to bust Sonny like that since he will risk losing Carly forever. Durant decides not to bust Sonny right now and let it go. Carly and Jason discussed Durant also. Jason tells her that she wants John to fit into the scenario she has mapped out for him to be, which is this loving father who will ignore Sonny to be what she wants him to be when the reality is different.

Sonny meets with Lois and asks her to spy on Alcazar and let him know if he is working with Durant to bring him down. Lois gets upset that Sonny is willing to use her friendship for business. She storms out. Sonny tells Carly that his shipment was not intercepted by Durant or the cops, which gets Carly's hopes up that her father could be trustworthy and really care about her. Jason disagrees which upsets Carly. Carly asks Sonny if she will be allowed to see her father anymore if it proves he isn't after Sonny at all. Durant orders Alcazar to make a move against Sonny tonight.

An explosion rocks one of Sonny's warehouses, which Durant makes appear to have been Lorenzo's doing. Jason and Sonny, however, suspect Durant, which upsets Carly. Steven comes very close to telling Carly of Durant's agenda, but stops before he blurts out too much.

Alcazar tells Sonny that he wasn't behind the warehouse bombing, and Sonny says that he believes him. But the police arrive and take Alcazar in for questioning. He assumes it's due to Sonny, but soon finds out he's being investigated for drugs. He declares his innocence, swearing he was set up, and Ric soon finds his words to be true when he realizes the planted bag of drugs is merely baking soda. Later, Alcazar meets with a blond on the docks, and tells her he's hiring her for a hit. She reminds him that her price to kill Sonny is double, but he tells her he wants her to murder a federal prosecutor instead, and set up Sonny to take the fall.

Carly tearfully tells her father that she can't have a relationship with him because of his job. She lets him know how happy she is to have met him, and how much it meant to her, but then she rushes out of his apartment, and apparently his life. Jason is hiding in the back and overhears the conversation. Later he goes to Sonny and lets him know what Carly did. Carly interrupts them, and expecting to be blasted by Sonny, she admits to going to see John against his wishes. But she tells him she went to end her relationship with her father, and Sonny believes her. Jason leaves the couple alone, and they strengthen their relationship with newfound trust and commitment to one another.

Sonny shows Carly the new wedding band that he bought for himself, and asks Carly to put it on his finger. She does, and recites their wedding vows as the couple promises to never let anything come between them again. John meets with Steven and tells him of Carly's visit. Steven wonders if John is sad to lose his only daughter, or if he merely feels like he lost his shot at taking Sonny down. John asks Steven if his answer would make a difference, and if so, why? Steven replies by saying that he has also developed feelings for Carly.
