Sonny & Carly #17  September 5 - October 25, 2003 - 8 hrs

Brenda appears worried as she realizes that her rescuer is Jason. It takes Jason a few moments to pick the lock and when he finally gets into the room which appears to be empty. Believing that the mystery woman is hiding out of fear, Jason tries to coax her into revealing herself by soothingly saying that he can he can help her escape if she wants to escape. From her hiding place Brenda smiles fondly as Jason reveals to the empty room that he works for Sonny Corinthos. Jason hears a faint noise coming from behind a door and quickly opens it. On the other side he comes face to face with a woman, but it is only the nurse. She urges him to leave quickly, but Jason insists on getting her name. The door flies open and Alcazar and his men enter. Alcazar greets Jason and tells him that he has been looking forward to killing him. Alcazar then orders his men to kill Jason and not to make any mistakes this time. From her hiding place Brenda appears to be upset by the turn of events. The nurse tries to explain to Alcazar how she had just found Jason moments before he arrived. Alcazar assures her that there is no problem as no damage was done. They leave the room and Brenda exits her hiding place (the ceiling to floor wardrobe). She heads straight for the door. But on the other side, Alcazar is waiting for her with a warning that any rescue attempt would ill advised. He asks if she has changed her mind and tells her that she can leave the ship whenever she likes. He then reminds her that she used to trust him. He reminds her that he saved her life when her mother tried to kill her, took her to a clinic in Switzerland and was by her side when she was diagnosed with the same disease as her mother, agreed to stay and take care of her for the rest of her life. Alcazar then asks if she no longer trust him and gives her time to think about it. Out on the deck, Jason struggles with two of Alcazar’s henchmen. He gets the best of them of a brief moment and jumps ship – literally. Alcazar's men fire several shots into the spot where Jason entered the water.

Brenda assures ‘Luis’ that she does trust him but wants to know why Jason had to die when he didn’t even see her. Alcazar reminds her that she was the one who didn’t want Sonny and Jax to know she was still alive and Zander had already seen her. Brenda reminds Alcazar that she doesn’t want Sonny or Jax hurt. Alcazar assures her he isn’t going to ‘hurt’ them, he is just going to make sure they can’t track her down. One of then men knocks and informs Alcazar that Roy has arrived. Brenda listens from behind the office doorway as Alcazar tells Roy that he has to leave sooner that expected. Roy replies that he will be sure Alcazar gets his share of the profits. Much to both Brenda and Roy’s disbelief, Alcazar orders Roy to kill Sonny. Roy refuses. Roy tells him that if he wants Sonny dead, he should do it himself. As Roy walks out, Alcazar tells his thugs "You know what you have to do". Brenda confronts the nurse, did she know that Alcazar wanted to kill Sonny, was that the plan all along? The nurse says that Alcazar loves Brenda and suggests that if he knows that these men mean nothing to her, that she wants to spend her life with him. Brenda catches on, and is shortly imploring Alcazar to take her away from PC that she wants to set sail so that they can be alone together. Alcazar falls for it.

Back at the penthouse, Jason tells Sonny, Carly, Liz and Zander about his visit to the yacht. He describes the woman that he saw (the nurse) and Sonny and he assume that this is the woman that whose back they saw earlier on the yacht. Sonny is mystified because he was sure that "the woman" was the key to the whole thing, so now he's stumped but he knows that trouble is ahead. Brenda slips out of bed with Alcazar, takes his cell phone out of his jacket and slips to another room. She dials Sonny's number at the penthouse. Sonny and Carly are kissing. Sonny tells her that when she is good, she is very good, but when she is bad, she is better. Finally Sonny picks up the phone, but Alcazar has already awakened from his slumber and takes the phone away from Brenda, before she could say anything. Carly had a nightmare that Sonny was shot and dying in her arms. She woke up and went downstairs where Sonny found her. She told him about her nightmare and they talked about it and then talked about what her dreams were. She didn't really want to talk about it but Sonny asked why she could share her nightmare with him but not her dreams. So she told him about the mansion and butler and all the other stuff.

Outside of Kelly's, some of Alcazar's men grabbed Maxie and Georgie. Felicia heard a scream and went running out. Lucas told her he tried to stop them but they got Maxie and Georgie. Roy told Felicia he would get them back. He took off. On the yacht, Brenda was trying to get Diana to help her to get to Sonny to warn him. She told Diana that Luis said he would help her keep her friends safe but he was going back on his word. Nobody would help her. The doctor was called and wanted to give her something. She didn't want it, she wanted off the yacht to warn a friend. Roy showed up and had Alcazar in a stranglehold. He wanted to see for himself that Maxie and Georgie were safe. He talked to Maxie and she said they were okay but scared. They were given hamburgers and sodas. Alcazar told Roy that he was to eliminate Sonny.

Brenda pleads with Alcazar to let her out of the cabin. He apologies for bringing her back to PC, but won’t let her out. Brenda tells him she wants to leave PC as soon as possible. Alcazar orders Diana (the nurse) to give Brenda some medication. After Alcazar leaves, Brenda refuses the drugs and convinces Diana to inject the pillow instead. Brenda asks her to call Sonny and warn him about Roy. As Diana leaves the room, Brenda notices an emergency kit on the wall. Later, Brenda fakes an accident and calls out for help. When the guard comes into help her, Brenda pretends to have sprained her ankle and asks him to get the emergency kit. As he bandages her, she manages to get the flare gun from the kit without him noticing. Eying the wide open door, she complains that she feels suffocated and asks him to stay with her. She is succeeding at seducing him when Alcazar returns. After the guard leaves, Alcazar compliments Brenda on her craftiness but warns her not to do anything she would later regret. After he leaves, Brenda takes the flare gun and hides it under her pillow.

Carly is looking through a photo album when she overhears Skye demanding to speak to Sonny. Annoyed Carly opens the door and tells Skye that Sonny is indeed not home and she does not have time for the rat that stole her club. Skye pleads with Carly and tells her that she is desperate and here only about Jax. Reluctantly Carly lets her in and Skye begins by telling Carly that she cannot find Jax anywhere. She thinks that he may somehow be involved in this mess with Roy and Sonny and doesn’t want to see him get hurt. Carly explains the significance of the cottage to Jax’s life. She explains that Jax lived there with Brenda and on the anniversary of her death he is probably there right now remembering her. Skye doesn’t want to believe Carly’s theory. Carly informs her that she overheard one of Sonny’s men tell him that Jax is at the cottage so she can confirm it. Skye asks Carly to be straight with her and tell her the real deal between Brenda and Jax. Carly tells her that she thinks Brenda is only woman Jax truly has and ever will love. Carly continues her explanation of Brenda’s connection between Sonny and Jax. She think that Brenda used Jax and Jax bought it all because he believed Brenda was perfect and could do no wrong. She tells Skye that Brenda would jump between the two and Jax would take her back every time. Skye thanks Carly for being so informative and before she leaves Carly tells her the address of the cottage. As Skye leaves, Jason arrives and tells Carly that they are going to meet Sonny.

Sonny and Jax show both show up at Brenda's cottage on the anniversary of her death. They trade insults about each other ruined Brenda’s life. Sonny reminds him that Brenda loved HIM way before he showed up. Jax informs Sonny that his love for Brenda nearly drove her insane. Sonny retorts by stating that by loving Brenda, Jax eventually killed her as he watched her go over the cliff.

Alcazar shows up in Brenda’s “room” and brings her some things to keep her busy. Brenda wonders why he is all smiles. He tells her that his work in Port Charles is at its end and they will be leaving town tomorrow. Brenda reminds him that she has stayed with him because she didn’t want her “disease” to affect Sonny and Jax. She wanted to protect them from what she could “become”. She doesn’t regret a single moment that she has spent with him, but he is different and she doesn’t enjoy being his prisoner. Alcazar tells her that it won’t be for much longer. He assures her that although he can’t guarantee to her that nothing will happen to Sonny or Jax he can guarantee that it won’t be on his hands if something does happen. This is for her own good and will be over soon. As Brenda and Alcazar reminisce about their life, we learn that Alcazar had rescued Brenda from the water and saved her. Alcazar tells her that she was not supposed to die that night, she was supposed to live. They will soon be leaving Port Charles and she will have no reason to want to come back. After Alcazar leaves Brenda handles the flare gun and tries to figure out how to best use the gun.

Sonny is seen standing alone on the dock, while Roy sneaks up behind him on the stairs and waits. Roy’s plan is thwarted when Jason and Carly arrive. Roy listens as Sonny explains that he wanted Alcazar to see that he is not hiding. The next move is his. Carly reminds him that he promised to stay with her for life, so he better be careful. Back at the penthouse, Jason tells Sonny that Alcazar’s yacht seems to be getting ready to leave town. Sonny doesn’t think that he would be leaving town this soon and they both think it might be a ploy. Jason tells Sonny that the “woman” left the yacht yesterday. This brings Sonny to discuss Brenda and Jax. He admits that he wonders if Brenda thought about him before he died, because she was the last face he saw when he almost died.

Brenda has arranged the table, bed and chairs as a barricade in front of the door. She kneels behind it and with a trembling hand grips the gun. She prays that this will work and fires the flare gun. There is an explosion. Sonny is watching Alcazar’s yacht. Carly comes down and he tells her what’s going on. They think maybe it was Roy. Carly begins to question him about Brenda and if he thought about her. He says he did and that the one thing he learned form Brenda’s “death” was that you can’t protect the people you love by pushing them away. Carly assures Sonny that she will not let that happen. Carly and Sonny look out the window and wonder which of Alcazar many enemies might have had something to do with the explosion on the yacht. Jason arrives and announces that Alcazar was not on the yacht when it exploded. Sonny pronounces it the perfect opportunity to make a move against his enemy. Carly has a bad feeling and pleads with Sonny not to take the chance. Sonny insists that he has to make a move now or lose the upper hand. In the end he gives in and lets Jason go ‘check things out’ first. After Jason leaves, Sonny and Carly calmly discuss her interference and he urges her to be strong so that he can go about his business without worry or distraction. Surprise of surprises, Taggart shows up to ‘question’ Sonny about the explosion. They barely have time to get into their usual typical conversation, before some officers drag Roy into the penthouse and inform all that they caught him ‘sneaking’ up the stairs. When Roy claims he just needed to see Sonny, Taggart questions his choice of stairs instead of the usual elevator. Taggart doesn’t really buy any of it, but without evidence can do nothing so he turns on Carly and asks if she is ready to be buried next to the first Mrs. Corinthos. Carly shots him down then leaves to go run an errand. After Taggart also leaves, Roy tells Sonny that the explosion aboard the yacht does not change anything.

A frantic Alcazar orders his men to keep searching for ‘her’. Felicia tries to take advantage of his distraction to slip away but gets caught before she can take more than a few steps. Alcazar orders his goons to take her back and tells them to shoot Felicia if she tries to escape again. Shortly after, Jason arrives on the docks and Alcazar accuses Sonny of setting the explosion. He baffles Jason when he tells him to tell Sonny that the stunt may have cost them both something important. Jason suggests that since things are no longer going as planned, Alcazar should cut his loses and leave. Alcazar tells Jason that he doesn’t take orders from Sonny or his flunky (referring to Jason). After Jason leaves, Alcazar orders his men to keep searching until they find Brenda. Brenda is still trapped and continues to bang on the door/wall while screaming for help. All the while the water level is rapidly rising. Alcazar learns from the harbor patrol that although Brenda was not found on board her chances of having escaped the explosion and sinking of the ship were slim to none. Alcazar is sure that she managed to survive and orders his men to keep search both the water and the surrounding shores. Alcazar then calls Roy and orders him to kill Sonny NOW! Roy assures Alcazar that the hit will go down that night.

Jason returns and reports that Alcazar is frantic because his girlfriend was apparently still aboard the yacht when it exploded. Alcazar blames Sonny, and oh yeah what was Roy doing here? Jason asks. Sonny says it’s no big surprise about the blame and he’ll fill Jason in later on Roy’s visit. Jason agrees with Sonny that Alcazar is vulnerable and they should take the opportunity it offers to get rid of him. Before they can do much else the phone rings. Brenda has managed to reach the shore but has to hide (under a over turned row boat) when she hears someone coming. It is Alcazar, she keeps still, holds her breath and eventually Alcazar and his men move on. Later Brenda is seen walking down a street. She runs in to a young man with a cell phone. She asks him to make a call for her. The man is reluctant until she offers to give him her $3000 diamond watch. Brenda dials the number then instructs the man to push send and ask for Sonny. Once Sonny is on the phone, Brenda has the man tell Sonny that a friend needs to meet him at St. Timothy’s church that night with information about Alcazar. Sonny refuses the meeting unless he can speak to the ‘friend’ directly. The young man gives Brenda the message and passes her the phone. Brenda slowly puts the phone up to her ear and takes a deep breath. Sonny is listening to Brenda breathing. When she won’t speak, she hands the phone to her new friend. He tells Brenda that Sonny won’t go unless he can speak with her. Carly has just come home and her and Jason listen intently to Sonny’s end of the conversation. Brenda tells her friend to tell Sonny that this is about Louis Alcazar and it is in his best interests to meet her at the church. Sonny agrees and hangs up the phone. Carly looks at him worriedly and quickly busies herself while Sonny tells Jason that he will ride with him, just in case. After Jason leaves, Sonny assures Carly that although he is aware this could be a trap, he has to end it tonight. Roy is on the phone with Alcazar telling him that everything has been arrange and it will happen tonight. Alcazar tells Roy that he doesn’t want assurances, he wants results. If he doesn’t kill Sonny, Felicia will die. One of Alcazar’s men approaches and tells him they have a lead on Brenda. She could be anywhere, but they have men canvassing the area her. Alcazar assumes that Brenda is trying to contact Sonny and Jax and warn them.

Carly and Sonny have apparently called Michael to say goodnight. After they get off the phone, Carly reminds her husband that this could easily be a trap. She distracts herself from falling apart on him by trying to pick out a bottle of wine. She asks Sonny to accept that she is being supportive of him, so she won’t hug him and beg him not to go. Sonny doesn’t believe her theory, but he reassure her that he loves her. Sonny is preparing to leave and Carly asks about the significance of the church. Sonny thinks that its because the woman is new in town and St. Timothy’s is in a central location. Carly asks him to say a prayer for himself when he gets to the church. He prays for anyone else, but not for himself. Sonny tells her that he will try. She jokes about his inability to say things like, I’m wrong Carly, you’re right, or Can we discuss this Carly? He responds by telling that he was wrong about all the times he said he didn’t need her. He asks if they can discuss the fact that they will spending the next 50 years together. Carly gets teary-eyed and they start kissing. Jason interrupts them telling Sonny that its time to go. Carly and Sonny say a tearful goodbye and Sonny tells her that he loves her and leaves.

Brenda arrives at St. Timothy’s, Brenda arrives at the church and stands in the pouring rain, mocking its irony. Smiling, she laughs joyously to herself, quietly and lets the rain pour over her. Brenda enters the church and slowly walks down the aisle. She approaches the altar and smiles to herself. Brenda is approached by the priest and asks if she should leave. He tells her that he is not going anywhere, she can stay as long as she likes and if she needs anything to just holler. Before he leaves, Brenda asks him if she seems rational to him. He says yes and she explains her illness and how sometimes she doesn’t know if she making her own decisions or if her illness is. She tells the priest that she almost got married five years ago to the man she is supposed to meet tonight. The priest suggest that she examine her motives. She tells him that she needs to warn him about something and wants to see him. The priest comes back and tells Brenda that she can still stay while he does some paperwork. She starts to vent to him by saying that she is responsible for everything that’s happened. She has tried to think about her actions and the consequences they have on the people she loves, but they always seem to backfire. The priest tells her that as long as she is thinking about others, she is on the right path. She thanks the priest and tells him that he her friend is not coming, because he always leaves her standing in the rain.

Carly is setting the table when Liz knocks at the door. Carly lets her in and Liz tells Carly that she has been staring out at a storm worrying about Jason. Could they help each other get through this, worrying about the people they care about? Carly thinks Liz just wants a typical cat fight, but before Liz leaves, Carly has a change of heart and asks her if she knows anything about yellow peppers. She explains that this is her one chance to prove to Sonny that she can cook, so will Liz show her how to slice it up? Liz asks Carly about how she deals with Sonny’s life because at the moment she doesn’t seem fazed. Carly explains that Sonny’s business is his problem, but her fears are hers. Carly suggests that Liz figure out what she needs from Jason and what she can handle about his life, because she doesn’t want to see Jason get hurt. Carly and Liz thank each other for their help and Liz leaves.

In the limo, Jason explains to Sonny that with the rain it will be almost impossible to spot any possible snipers. He asks Sonny if he is sure he wants to do this. He reminds his boss that he now has a family who think he is the world. He needs to be sure this is what he needs to do. Jason and Sonny begin a heated argument about Sonny’s order that Jason remain behind for 10 minutes. Jason thinks it is an unnecessary risk and that he is starting to take it personally. Damn right I am, Sonny replies and explains that he has to make Alcazar pay for trying to ruin his life. Jason reluctantly agrees and Sonny mentions that the last time he was here was when he was to marry Brenda.

Amazing Grace montage, as Carly lights a candle, Sonny begins walking through the rain to the doors of the church. Roy is lurking behind a tree, as Brenda turns from the altar and walks toward the door. Carly lights candles at the dinner table in the penthouse. Sonny slowly walks towards St. Timothy's Church in the rain. Brenda kneels in a pew in the church, praying. Roy hides behind the bushes outside the church. Brenda gets up and heads towards the church doors. Sonny arrives at the courtyard in front of the church. Roy waits. Jason gets out of the limo. Brenda opens the first set of doors and takes a breath. Sonny walks closer. Roy waits. Carly pours wine for dinner. Sonny is outside the church doors. Carly starts to drink a glass of wine, but is startled and drops it. Brenda opens the outside doors. Sonny sees Brenda; his eyes are wide, in shock. Brenda smiles at him and laughs. Carly's glass drops to the floor, leaving a pool of red. Gunshot. On Monday montage replays, this time I used the SoapNet montage with the S&B instrumental music. Gunshot. Gunshot. Brenda screams. Gunshot. Sonny drops to the ground. Brenda runs over and picks him up. She holds his head in her lap, gets blood on her hands.

Jason arrives. Sonny gasps and tells Jason to get her out of there. Jason picks Brenda up and carries her, kicking and screaming, into the car. He literally throws her in the car and it takes off. "Brenda," Sonny utters, lying in a pool of his own blood. In the car, racing away from Sonny, Brenda desperately tries to get out and starts screaming at Jason to go back for Sonny. Jason tells her to calm down. He makes two quick phone calls. In the first one, presumably to paramedics, Jason says, "A man's been shot, needs an ambulance." The second call is to Carly and Jason tells her Sonny needs her at St. Timothy's church. Brenda insists on knowing who Jason has called and why he isn't going back for Sonny. Jason has questions of his own. "How long have you been with Alcazar?" he demands. Brenda and Jason continue to argue, he has questions, she doesn't want to answer them and instead wants to get back to Sonny. She does tell Jason that Alcazar saved her from drowning. Jason tells Brenda that he is doing exactly what Sonny wants...his dying words were to get her away from there.

Sonny is lying on the ground, bleeding and dying. The priest comes out of the church and finds Sonny and tries to help him, covers his chest with his jacket, puts his sweater under Sonny's head. Then he prays. The paramedics show up and try to save him, to no avail. Sonny's dead. Just then, Carly shows up and starts screaming and crying, telling her husband to "Open your eyes!" When he doesn't, she starts reminding him of their plans and asks what she is going to do without him?! The priest tries to pull her away but she isn't budging. Carly swears she will always love him and the paramedics take him away. Then, Taggert and his fellow PCPD buffoons show up, confused. Where is the body? Carly tells him her husband is dead. Taggert is really confused about why the body is gone, why the paramedics would have taken it away. He asks questions of the priest and the priest tells what he knows, but it is very little. Taggert tells Carly he is sorry for her loss, but she doesn't believe him since he hated Sonny. Taggert wonders where Sonny's bodyguards were or, more importantly, where was Jason? Carly finally tells him what she knows, about Jason calling her and her arriving to find Sonny dead. She says she can give him the name of who did this, though. "Alcazar."

Jason has taken Brenda to a safe-house. She still isn't answering his questions, though. She does not understand why Jason would have left Sonny lying dead on the ground. Finally, Brenda tells Jason that she is sick, she inherited her mom's illness and it makes her question reality at times. She tells Jason how Luis promised to keep her away from the people she loves so that she wouldn't hurt them. When she saw they were back in Port Charles, she stopped taking her medication. And, when she heard Luis order someone to kill Sonny, she knew she had to warn him somehow. She admits she sank the yacht. When Jason asks why she didn't just tell Sonny over the phone, Brenda admits she wanted to see him. "Well, you got what you wanted, didn't you?" snotty Jason asks her. He tells her she is safe where she is, but she wants to warn Jax, too. Then, she suggests Jason go to Jax and protect him, that is what Sonny would want. Jason says he follows Sonny's orders, not her orders. They get the call, Sonny's been taken to the morgue. Brenda is devastated. She says that when Sonny saw her at the church, she realized that he had always loved her. She wasn't sure in the past but she knew when they locked eyes. She claims that she's always loved him and he always loved her, that it was fine even if she loved him more. As she talks, we see Sonny in the next room, taking off his shirt, revealing a bulletproof vest. Why, he's not dead after all!

The news of Sonny’s demise begins to break. Alexis is searching for mommy to be aerobics on her TV when she is visited by Ned. He begins to tell her the news he heard on his car radio when a special TV news report blares the story of Sonny’s gangland execution. Taggert arrives at Roy’s. With gun pointed, he demands that Roy spill his story of where he was the night before. Bobbie has made it to Sonny’s to be with Carly. Elizabeth pops in to see if everything is all right. Carly comes down the stairs and announces that there has been a shooting. Sonny is dead. Brenda sleeps restlessly. Her eyes open to see Sonny at her doorway. She rises and they meet, head to head, nose to nose, she gently strokes his cheek and . . .. She awakens and realizes her dream; Jason is at her door. Troubled, she reminds them both that Sonny is dead because of her . . . if she only knew that Sonny sits staring in the next room. Jason explains to Brenda that she was not responsible for Sonny’s death. Things were in motion before they knew she was involved. She responds that she should have called, warned him, and left. She did not ever want him to see her sick and now he never would. She cries as Sonny watches through the window.

Carly gives Elizabeth the details of Sonny lying and dying in the rain. Liz asks about Jason. Did he call? Have they called him? Thinking he may be hurt and not thinking clearly, Elizabeth wants to go look for him. Carly and Bobbie advise her stay out of it. Carly tells her to show that she accepts Jason’s life by going to the penthouse and waiting. Liz leaves and Bobbie advises Carly to let it all out. Carly says there are things to take care of.

Alexis thinks Sonny's death is a mistake. Ned says he has spoken to the priest that was with Sonny as he died. He asks Alexis to think of the baby and turn off the TV. He reminds her that this is exactly why she has made the choices she has made.

Coleman arrives at Courtney's door and tells her he is sincerely sorry. Courtney tells him to beat it or she will tell her brother. He realizes she hasn't yet heard and announces that her brother is dead. She asks for details. He gently fills her in. She expresses her regret for being so hard on Sonny, not taking his help and telling him that she hated him so many times. Another knock at the door is heard and Mike cheerfully invites Courtney for breakfast. She realizes he does not know and answers the door. She and Mike sit down. Courtney reveals the news. Mike expresses his guilt over the path Sonny’s life took. AJ arrives and almost believably comforts his family.

Alexis calls on Carly. Alexis admits she has wondered whether or not Sonny would have been more careful if he had known the truth about her baby. Carly snaps; Michael isn’t good enough? Alexis clarifies that she meant that maybe its time to tell the truth and acknowledge Sonny as her baby’s father. Carly calls Alexis a hypocrite. She reminds Alexis that Sonny’s enemies are still out there even if he is gone and that she better remember that before she makes her secret known.

Sonny and Jason whisper outside Brenda’s window. They acknowledge her hurt and Sonny thanks Jason for keeping a watchful eye. Jason asks if Sonny is going to tell her that he’s alive. He fills Sonny in on Brenda, how she hooked up with Alcazar, her illness and what has been going on. Sonny feels that Brenda has made it clear what she wants and he is clearly not part of it. She wanted to see him, she did, and now he’s dead. Sonny listens at the vent that “connects” his hideaway to Brenda. She weeps and cries that she is sorry. Roy enters Sonny’s room and reveals the next task Alcazar has given him: kill Jax and deliver Brenda. Sonny explains that when he saw Brenda, everything fit. Roy realizes that Brenda is the witness Taggert alluded to. Sonny says Brenda will not be available to the Taggert. They will get Alcazar. Roy says Alcazar has gone back underground and will not surface until he has Brenda. He suggests they go at Alcazar through the proper authorities. Sonny says the only way to get Alcazar is to get him to make a mistake. Roy needs to play along. Roy says he can control his end as long as Sonny can control Brenda. Brenda fights with Jason in the next room. She states she is leaving to warn Jax, but promises to return. Jason locks her in and leaves. Alone again, Sonny continues to watch Brenda from the outside. She impatiently paces her room and eventually moves, as we might expect, to the window.

Jason arrives at Carly’s as Alexis leaves. Carly has a million questions and as usual Jason is a man of few words. Enter Bobbie as Jason explains he has talked to the funeral director. He tells Carly he is there for her anytime. He sternly reminds her that no matter what she needs to stay with a guard. Courtney bolts from the elevator meeting Jason as he leaves from Carly’s. She accuses him of not protecting her brother. Her rage turns to tears as she thanks Jason for everything he has done. He comforts her with an embrace as Elizabeth opens the penthouse door and observes with surprise.

Taggert is livid when he arrives at the morgue to find that Sonny's body was sent to the church without proper clearance from the PCPD. He finds out that Jason managed to sign out the body. Meanwhile, Brenda tries to persuade Jason to let her go and warn Jax about Alcazar so he doesn't get killed. Jason refuses to allow her to leave the safe house and agrees to do what he can concerning Jax's safety. Jason leaves Benny to watch over Brenda while he's gone. Sonny overhears Brenda through the vent. He feels bad about hearing her blame herself for his "death."

Monica arrives at the funeral home to offer her condolences to Jason for Sonny's death. Jason questions her actions at first but is touched when she tells him she came for him since she is his mother. Bobbie, Lucas, Courtney, Mike, and Carly show up for the funeral service as well. Courtney blames herself for not seeing until it was too late that Sonny was only trying to protect her and that he loved her. Carly tells her that she can't blame herself and that Sonny wouldn't want her to feel bitter about it and that he loved her. Alexis shows up to pay her respects but Carly refuses to allow her to stay for the service after the way she treated Sonny at Kristina's funeral. Alexis leaves quietly. At the end of the service, Taggert shows up and insists on seeing Sonny's body in the casket. Carly gets upset with him and tells him to leave her and Sonny alone now. Taggert refuses to leave without seeing the body. He opens the casket to find Sonny lying there peacefully. Jason tells him to leave right now. He leaves. Jason thanks everyone for coming while he comforts Carly. Everyone leaves them alone. Carly comments to Jason that Taggert will not stop hounding them. Jason leaves her alone in the room. She opens the casket and talks to Sonny about how much she loves him and will never stop loving him ever. Sonny wakes up from a drugged state and gets out of the casket to embrace her. Carly tells him it was really hard to pretend he was dead and go through the motions of a funeral.

Brenda distracts Benny by faking a migraine and asks Benny to turn the lights down. While he turns his back on her to turn the lights down, Brenda hits him hard on the head with a glass vase and knocks him out cold. She escapes out the window and heads to the church to observe Sonny's funeral. She gets there and goes over to the room where the service took place and approaches the door to open it.

Outside the door, Brenda pauses as she remembers seeing Sonny gunned down. This gives Jason enough time to arrive on the scene and prevent her from entering. Jason tries to convince Brenda that Alcazar's people could be watching the church and she agrees to go with him. Sonny stops Carly from investigating the noise. Sonny denies knowing who the woman at the church was. He apologizes for putting Carly through such a trying ordeal. Then lies again about Alcazar disappearing. Carly is upset when Sonny says they can't see each other again until the problem is solved-permanently. Later, Bobbie comes in to comfort Carly and asks where Jason is. Carly fobs off any more questions regarding Jason’s whereabouts by insisting that Jason is suffering as much as she is. Carly is touched by Bobbie's words of wisdom and her compassion.

Carly returns home and thanks Liz for her efforts. Liz asks about Jason but Carly cannot give her any information. After Liz leaves, Carly convinces Bobbie to leave her alone. She immediately calls Jason and leaves a message saying she needs to finish her conversation with (slight pause) “Benny”. Shortly afterwards the guard announces a visitor. It turns out to be one of Sonny's mob connections that has come to pay his respects. He also wants to discuss business. Carly is outraged at his lack of respect. The man gives her a check for $2 million, as payment for Sonny’s ‘territories’. Carly is insulted since Sonny is worth well over ten times the amount. When he points out Jason’s mysterious absence, she reluctantly takes the check, then tears it up and tells him to go to hell. Back at the safe-house, Brenda continues to worry over not being able to warn Jax. She finally notices that the window in her room is nailed shut. Jason points out that there are also guards now. Later, Jason enters Brenda’s room when she wakes up screaming from a nightmare.

Carly is on the phone trying to get a hold of Jason. Elizabeth walks in hearing Carly say that she is going out of her mind and she is worried. Elizabeth asks if she was talking to Jason, and where he is. Elizabeth tries to find out from Carly where Jason is and where he's been going every night. Carly says that it's "business". Elizabeth wants to know what that means. Carly says it means exactly what it sounds like. It's the all purpose answer that means do not ask any more questions. Carly tells her that she can not help her with this. She then tells the guard to pull the car around now. Carly walks in on the meeting for the division of Sonny's properties at a restaurant. She tells them to skip the topic of dividing the territory and that she will be running his business in his name. They ignore her. She takes a bat and breaks some items on the table and says, "As I was saying".

Jason tells Sonny that Brenda had a nightmare and that she turns down his getting her meds for her illness. He states that she is only concerned with Jax. He tells Sonny he can't deal with her anymore and he wants Sonny to send her to Puerto Rico. Sonny refuses. He said that they are holding her until Alcazar is out of the picture and then she can do whatever she wants. Jason said he needs a break, and Sonny tells him to be back ASAP! Brenda is knocking on the door of her room trying to get Jason's attention. She says she needs to tell him one thing about Jax. She begins screaming and banging on the door. She realizes that someone is on the other side of the wall. She says she can see them moving through the grate. She keeps asking questions for the person to talk, but the person on the other side (Sonny) does not answer. She says Jason blames her even though he hasn't come out and said it yet. She says that maybe it is her fault, but that she only wanted to protect him. She said that no matter what happened she always loved him.

Brenda is still talking to "the person" on the other side of the wall. She said the only thing that matters to her now is protecting Jax. She says that she would give anything to see him right now, or to talk to him. Carly says that they lack imagination. She says she is well equipped to run Sonny's territory and that there are people waiting to carry out her orders such as Jason Morgan. She says that nothing has changed. She tells them if they make a move they have Jason to deal with and then her.

Brenda asks if there is anything that she could make this person do to break their orders. She makes fun of how the guards can't break their "sacred orders" and Sonny smiles. She says she feels bad for people like that, those that have to take orders. Brenda says that she recalls one day when she was walking down the pier, a man walked up to her and asked if she needed help... flashback of multiple scenes with her and Sonny together the two of them are on either side of the wall leaning against it, recalling memories of them together to "Crazy Love".

Carly shows up at the church and thanks the Father for being with Sonny during his last moments. She explains that she is trying to piece together the events of the evening and asks for more information on the “woman” (Brenda). He begins with a description of her, but Jax and Skye show up. Jax tells the priest not to hurry and to finish his business with Mrs. Corinthos. The priest is surprised that the two know each other. Jax offers his condolences to Carly who rips into him about how much he hated Sonny and that she once considered him her friend until she reconciled with Sonny and he dropped her like a hot potato (my words, not Carly’s!!). She explains that Jax used the “borrowing money” as an excuse to get her out of there. She reminds him that he hated Sonny because he was a constant reminder of his one failure in life Brenda. To Brenda he will always be considered a fall back plan when the man she really loves kicked out and now that Sonny is dead, he is thrilled. Jax apologizes to Carly if she felt that she wasn’t getting any support from him. He knows what its like to love someone more than life itself and watch them die and says that he wouldn’t wish that on his worst enemy. Carly turns her attention back to the priest and asks for more info on the woman. When the priest can’t give anymore, Carly thanks him again and walks away. The priest apologizes for her behavior, but Jax and Skye tell him not to worry about. It’s nothing new. Jax asks again about the woman and the priest is curious why he wants to know. Skye asks Jax if he thinks he knows the woman. He says no, that it could be anyone.

Carly shows up and Lucas and Carly have a tender brother/sister moment. Carly heads inside and approaches the counter. After saying hello, Liz asks Carly if she has heard from Jason yet. Carly says no and Liz explains the events of the night before, regarding Courtney and that she saw Jason. Carly asks if he had a message for her. Liz says no, but is puzzled about something, he had lipstick on his neck. Carly tells Liz that she doesn’t care if Jason was covered in lipstick because for some strange reason wants to be with Liz and would not cheat on her. Unlike Liz, who can’t decide between Jason/Lucky, Jason/Zander, Jason knows what he wants. Liz asks if that was similar to her not being able to decide between Sonny and Jason. Carly starts to rip into her usual spiel about Liz not being the sweet and innocent person everyone thinks, but Liz quickly apologizes and asks Carly if she can just vent for a minute. Puzzled, Carly listens as Liz asks how she deals with the long disappearances with no explanations, except business and then seeing them with lipstick on their neck. Carly would be suspicious too. Carly tells Liz not to worry that if and when she sees Jason she will tell him to call her. They thank each other and Scott approaches as Liz disappears into the kitchen. Scott, after placing a kiss on Carly’s cheek to which she is totally confused, offers his condolences. He tells her that if she ever needs anything or anyone to talk to about the goings on of the underworld, to just come to him. Carly isn’t fooled. She tells Scott to forget about his fishing expedition and to save his kisses for her mother and walks away.

Alcazar places a call to Roy and tells him that tailing Jax isn’t cutting it anymore. Alcazar orders Roy to kill Jax who can’t understand why Jax is still such a big deal since Brenda isn’t trying to contact him. Alcazars repeats the order and after hanging up tells and unseen person that he may have to kill Jax himself as Roy may not follow through.

Jason reams Carly for doing her “Sopranos” imitation. Carly knows Jason is lying to her and wants to know what the hell’s going on. Jason tells her to quit stirring the pot and just sit tight until Sonny’s home. Carly doesn't get why she can't see Sonny now. Jason tells her that batting practice is over, disarms Carly and leaves. Carly then tells Max that Sonny needs him immediately and then follows the stupid goon right to the safe house. Roy tells Sonny that Alcazar has had a change of heart. He told him to forget about grabbing Brenda and just blow Jax away. Sonny tells Roy that the Candy Boy’s wedding announcement was leaked so that Alcazar would show up at the church. Sonny figures once he’s rid of Alcazar, everything will go back to normal. Jason, who seems to be getting a little disgusted with his job duties of late, asks Sonny straight out what’s going to happen to Brenda when this mess with Alcazar is over. Carly shows up at the safe house hot on the heels of Sonny’s guy.

Brenda is about to go into the church but is startled when Courtney arrives and gets her attention. She asks Brenda if she is here for the wedding. Brenda tells her she came to pray and that she was told there was a private ceremony and so she was just leaving. Courtney tells her that she is sort of related to the bride since her husband A.J. is the bride's brother and is walking her down the aisle. Brenda doesn't reveal who she is and lets Courtney go by. Brenda sneaks into the church and hides in one of the reception areas. She sees Jax and almost reveals herself when she is alone in the room with him but Ned shows up and so she loses her nerve and hides in the corner.

Skye goes in one of the rooms to find a handkerchief that Lila gave her. She sees Alcazar in the room and asks him what he is doing in there. He makes up some story about how he is the Reverend's assistant and was asked to check out the fuse boxes to make sure everything was o.k. for the wedding. Skye buys his explanation and allows him to kiss her cheek for good luck. Jason is given orders from one of Sonny's men via Sonny that he is to find Brenda and return her to the safe house and to not try and apprehend Alcazar at this time. Jason reluctantly follows his orders and witnesses Brenda across from him watching the ceremony but the power failure keeps him from getting to her. Alcazar goes to make his move to shoot Jax but Brenda grabs his arm and the gun goes off toward the floor between them. He turns around and finds himself pointing the gun at Brenda, who stares him down.

Sonny gives Carly hell for not listening to him and going to the room where the woman was being held. Carly asks him all sorts of questions about the mysterious woman and guesses she is Alcazar's woman. Sonny refuses to tell her it is Brenda. He tells her that the woman was at the church and witnessed his shooting and that she was trying to get away from Alcazar and that she was the one who blew up the yacht. Carly knows he is keeping something from him but doesn't ask anything else. Sonny tells her to stay in the room while he talks to Max. He tells Max to go to the church and tell Jason to find Brenda and leave the church and bring her back quickly. Sonny and Carly smooth things over and kiss and make up. While they are being intimate there is suddenly a pounding on the door telling them that the place is surrounded and to come out with their hands up. Sonny recognizes Taggert's voice on the other side of the door. Carly just about had to fight Scott and Taggert off. She did a good job convincing them that she was merely mourning the loss of her husband in a place where they used to go for privacy. At first, she tried to threaten them with calling the media, but that didn't work, so she hit a personal chord by mentioning calling her mother, whom Scott is seeing. After they leave, Sonny comes out of the closet and tells Carly that she did a good job.

While Jax & Skye were getting married, Alcazar was trying to get a shot at Jax, but Brenda caught him off guard and tried to convince him to shoot her instead. Jason then came in and was able to distract Alcazar so that both he and Brenda could get away. Brenda steals Jax and Skye's limo and gets away. Roy and Jason set off to look for Alcazar again and when Roy finds him, they struggle and Alcazar is shot in the stomach (although he behaves as if he's fine). While Skye prepares for her wedding night with Jax, he goes around the cottage and onto the patio, blowing out the candles that they had lit earlier. As he turns to go back inside, someone behind him says, "Congratulations." He turns around to find Brenda, who he had believed dead for the past four years.

Carly returns from her run in at the safe house to a run in with her mother. Bobbie has made plans for them to fly to Sonny’s private island so that they can begin breaking the news of Sonny’s death to Michael. Carly is at a loss and doesn’t know how to stall her mother who is insisting that Michael begin the healing process. Carly’s saved by the appearance of Scott. Carly fills her mother in on Scott and Taggert’s latest escapade. Bobbie is upset, but not so upset that she lets Scott have it like she should. Sonny and Jason are in the limo, when Jason asks Sonny point blank what he intends to do with Brenda when they find her. He suggests Europe, she was happy there before. Sonny says no and that they will have to stash her in Puerto Rico until the Alcazar issue is resolved. Jason says nothing, as usual.

Jax slowly turns around and spots Brenda. He can’t believe his eyes and they stand there staring at each other for what seems like hours. Jax finally speaks and tells her that he knew she was alive. He tells her that he saw her in Paris, “it was you, it was you…” Brenda says yes and runs and jumps into his arms. Jax hugs her tightly as he starts to cry. Brenda tells Jax all about the night of her accident, stating that she doesn’t really remember anything after she hit the water. He tells her how tortured he was to watch the whole thing happen and relives diving into the water from the helicopter that Jerry was piloting. Though Brenda wants to answer Jax’s questions, she interrupts to tell him quite succinctly that he’s in grave danger from the man that she’s been shacked up with for the past four years. She wants him safe, that’s the only reason she risked even seeing him. Of course, Alcazar says Jax, you’re the only thing that Sonny and I have in common. Brenda says that Alcazar shot Sonny and she’s not going to let him hurt anyone else she loves. “He’s been good to me, took me to the best doctors money can buy and has been feeding me lies and meds I don’t need in an attempt to make me stay with him forever”. Jax asks why it was so easy for her to believe that Alcazar would stand beside her during her illness when he promised the same exact thing.

Sonny comes out of hiding and compliments Carly’s performance with her mother and Scott. Sonny says that he hates that Courtney and Mike are suffering because of his fake death. Carly tells him that when the stuff with Alcazar is over and done, he can make it up to them. She also tells him she likes the fact that he’s got to stay put for the time being and she’s going to take advantage of it!! Knock-knock, Sammy Tagliotti is shown in by another one of Sonny’s guys. Sonny listens as Tagliotti hits on his wife and offers to keep her company while she mourns her hubby. Carly snaps back that he isn’t fit to walk in Sonny’s shoes, or on his territory. He asks if he can escort her to the family meeting and she shows him the door. Now Sonny’s really pissed, he wants this over because he can’t take Tagliotti’s disrespect for very much longer.

Carly is ready to go and have a sit down with the mob bosses. Sonny doesn't want her to go but Carly insists on going so Sonny told her that he was going with her. Sonny wires Carly so that he can hear what is said and that he would be telling her what to say. Sonny said that he would be in a limo outside of the No Name. Carly arrives at the No Name and Sonny who is talking to her in her earpiece tells her to sit down. They tell Carly that they have a shipment of drugs that are coming in at the docks and that they have to bring them through Sonny's territory. Sonny tells Carly to go along with them but instead tells them no that Sonny would never allow that to happen. Carly tells the mob bosses that Sonny would refuse to move drugs through his territory and that they knew that! Sonny tells Carly to shut up. They tell Carly that Sonny never made those kinds of decisions and that Sonny was weak! Then they told Carly not to make the same mistakes that Sonny did. Sonny tells Carly to tell them that they can go ahead and move the drugs through his territory, and that made her answer that would affect them for a long time. Carly ignores Sonny by pulling her wire and tells them that she had come in respect and that she demanded respect from them. Carly tells them that they spit on Sonny's memory and asks if that was why they asked her there to disrespect her dead husband? Carly says that there was no way in hell that she would let them run drugs through Sonny's territory. Sonny can't hear Carly and doesn't know what is going on. The mob tells Carly that she has guts but no brains. Carly's ear piece falls to the floor and one of the men pick it up telling everyone that Carly is wired.

Carly creates a minor distraction giving Sonny the opportunity to slip back into the limo without anyone else seeing him. Once he is back in the limo, Sonny listens intently as Carly tries to bluff her way through the raid by claiming that they interrupted a wake in Sonny’s honor. Scott order the police to take the others away, but tells them to leave Carly alone. Carly is less than grateful for Scott’s “help”. Once she joins Sonny in the limo, he jumps all over her for jeopardizing his relationship with the families and for putting herself in danger with her stunt. Once they are home Carly goes on about how she is only on equal ground with Sonny in the bedroom. Sonny tells Carly that it’s not about Sexism; he just wants to keep her out of danger. Sonny claims he will let everyone know he is alive before he lets her get involved with the mob again. Carly promises to be the ‘perfect’ wife. Jason calls and tells Sonny that he missed Alcazar at the cabin but it is obvious from the missing piece of a map he found that Alcazar is on his way to Brenda’s cottage. Jason asks Sonny to intercept Alcazar since Sonny is closer and can arrive sooner than Jason can. Sonny tells Carly he has to go stop Alcazar, but again fails to mention Brenda in anyway. Carly pleads with Sonny not to go, but Sonny maintains that he has to put a stop to Alcazar’s plans. Shortly after Sonny leaves, Scott arrives and questions Carly on why she is meeting with Tagliotti so often. Carly refuses to tell him anything until Scott threatens to let the feds have at her. Carly wonders what Bobbie will think of Scott’s strong arm tactics, but Scott tells her he wants to make a deal with her. Scott uses the threat of taking Michael to force Carly into signing a statement saying she saw Sonny and Alexis in bed together.

Over at Brenda's cottage, Alcazar bursts through the door interrupting Jax & Brenda, gun in hand. Jax tries to shield Brenda. Jax tells Brenda to run and accuses Alcazar of playing mind games with her. He tells Alcazar that even if Alcazar manages to kill him, Jason and Jerry will come after him and won’t rest until he is dead. Alcazar shoots Jax in the abdomen. Brenda listens in shock as Alcazar tells her to come with him or he will kill Jax with the next shot. Brenda runs to Jax and throwing herself across his body dares Alcazar to shoot her. Alcazar tells Brenda that she can stay and watch Jax bleed to death or save his life, by going with him and calling 911 from the car. As Brenda kisses Jax goodbye, Sonny appears in the doorway. He shoots Alcazar twice. Alcazar falls to the floor. Sonny approaches Brenda, is who still shielding Jax with her body. He softly says her name. Brenda looks up at him in disbelief. Brenda blames Sonny for Jax being shot. Jax is taken to GH. Skye arrives at the hospital and learns Jax was with a woman when he was shot. At the police station, Brenda refuses to implicate Sonny in any wrongdoing and states he saved her and Jax's lives.

Carly and Brenda come face to face in the PCPD squad room while Sonny and Jason watch from inside an interrogation room. Carly recognizes Brenda and suddenly realizes that Brenda must have been Alcazar's girlfriend. Carly accuses Brenda of being the cause of all the carnage. But Brenda just pushes past Carly, in a hurry to see Jax.
Carly: (Sarcastically while gripping Brenda by the arm) “We can’t thank you enough for bringing Alcazar into our lives.” “Brenda Barrett? Or is it Brenda Alcazar now?”
Brenda: “You need to let go of my arm…I’m going to the hospital to see Jax (yanks free and starts to walk away) …idiot.”
Carly: (Shrieking to Brenda’s back ) “Well, you’d better hurry because Jax is married too!”
Sonny: “At least Carly didn’t lose it.”
Jason: “Yet,”
Sonny: “You know she’s going to go postal and then what are we going to do?”

Sonny and Jason worry about Carly going postal, but Carly appears calm enough by the time she enters the interrogation room. When Taggert enters and sees Sonny, Taggert asks: "So, the devil wouldn't have you, huh?' Later when he finds out that the undead Brenda Barrett is the lone witness to Sonny’s claim of self-defense in the Alcazar shooting – “Yeah right, who else saw this – Elvis?”

Carly, Sonny and Jason are dogging Taggert. He wants to know who was buried in Sonny’s grave and commends Carly on her superior acting skills. He starts to lose it and Sonny interrupts by remarking, “ Sonny tells Marcus to cut to the chase and tell him exactly what he’s being charged with. “Getting on my nerves” he yells. Carly smirks that maybe, just maybe he should check into the PCPD’s anger management program to learn to control his rage. Mac interrupts and sends Jason out of the room. Taggert asks Carly if she was in on the plan. Mrs. Corinthos walks behind her hubby, places her hands on his shoulders and digs her claws in while uttering “I obviously don’t know anything that’s been going on in my husband’s life” referring to being left out of being informed of brenda's resurrection.

At Club 101, the reporters ask Alexis if she was part of Sonny's scam to pretend to be dead. Ned suggests that Ned suspects some kind of police involvement had to have been present in carrying off the scheme. Alexis replies to the reporters that if Sonny did stage his own death - it just shows how out of control organized crime has become in Port Charles and that the public should be asking how the Acting District Attorney could let something like this happen. After the reporters leave, Alexis fumes to Ned that that vindictive shrew Carly knew Sonny was alive when Carly threw Alexis out of Sonny's funeral.

Jason’s cuffed to a desk when Courtney rushes into the PCPD. She asks what Jason is doing there and before he can tell her that her brother is alive, she turns and sees him herself. She rips Jason a new one demanding to know how he could let her and her father grieve for someone who wasn’t dead. How could he let Mike sink so low in his depression without saying a word? Jason merely states that he did what he had to do to protect Sonny. Sonny steps forward and gives his little sis a hug and asks that they start over. Scott agrees with Courtney that it was LOW of Sonny to let his family grieve Sonny's staged death. Sonny tries to apologize to Courtney and Courtney assures Sonny that she will try to get over it. Scott orders Taggert to release Sonny, Jason AND Carly. Taggert protests to Mac, but Mac agrees that there is no evidence to prosecute and releases his prisoners. However, as Jason and Sonny confer, they agree that they suspect that Scott is setting them up for something.

As Sonny and Carly arrive home at the Penthouse, Carly icily orders Sonny to pack his bags and get out. Carly asks Sonny why he hasn't left yet since the great Brenda is back. Carly says she's not begging Sonny to stay with her. Sonny says he's not leaving for Brenda because Carly is the one he loves. Carly claims she was pulled into "the plan" because of Brenda. Carly is angry that Sonny didn't tell her about Brenda being in the safe-house. Sonny says Brenda didn't even know Sonny was alive. Carly questions why Brenda is still hanging around. Sonny says he thought Brenda would go right back to Europe. Carly speculates that Brenda will be hanging around pretending not to be interested in Sonny when she actually is, and that they'll end up together. Sonny says he didn't tell her because she would act like she's acting right now. Carly resents Brenda being treated like a secret treasure. Carly says she doesn't want to be with Sonny anymore. Sonny is upset that Carly is ready to trash his marriage, and Carly counters that he's obsessed with that whiny little viper. Sonny says he loves Carly. Sonny explains he couldn't control the variables (Brenda) and he tried to manage the situation the best he could. He says he hopes Brenda finds happiness, but it isn't going to be with Sonny. Sonny tells Carly they're together, she knows how he feels about her and they've been married 20 times now (facetiously) and he wants to be with her, cross his heart. Carly says she has no reserves left, and if Sonny leaves her for Brenda, she will hate him for the rest of her life. Sonny needs to permanently make up his mind now, not later. Sonny kisses Carly.

Jason visits Alcazar at GH and tells him it's too bad he's alive and if he gets out of the hospital, Jason guarantees Alcazar will be dead. The day he leaves the hospital, he should worry. Taggert arrives in the room with his usual attempts at sarcasm. Taggert speculates that Alcazar hired Roy as a front man to kill Sonny. He speculates that Alcazar is responsible for the explosion at the warehouse. Alexis overhears and asks Alcazar if he's the coward who murdered Kristina. Monica enters and orders everyone out. Alexis returns to Alcazar's hospital room while Brenda is there. Alexis puts it all together and accuses Brenda that she is the cause of all the lousy things that have happened. Brenda apologizes and leaves.

Sonny meets with the mob families that were trying to take over his territory. He tells them that he is in power still and warns them not to interfere with his business and that he will not be helping them with drug trafficking. Jason finds him there at the no-name club and tells him that Roy turned down his job offer in Miami but that he and Felicia gave them Pier 52 for free to show him good faith. Jason asks Sonny what he wants to do with Brenda now. Sonny instructs him to find a house in Europe somewhere where there is an ocean or beach and that they can get a live-in nurse for her down the road when she no longer can care for herself with her disease. Mike shows up at Sonny's penthouse. Carly tells him Sonny is not home. Mike confronts Carly about pretending to grieve for Sonny knowing all along he was alive. Carly tries to smooth things over with him but Mike remains angry and suggests that she leave Sonny before he destroys her love for him too. Sonny shows up and Carly leaves them alone. Mike tells Sonny off for allowing him to grieve for him as well as Courtney. Sonny apologizes to him for hurting him but Mike tells him that sorry isn't good enough and leaves. Carly comes back and comforts Sonny. Michael comes home with Leticia and surprises both Sonny and Carly with his return.

As the threesome reunite, there's a knock on the door. When Carly answers the door at the Penthouse, she is disgusted to see Brenda standing there. When Michael asks if Brenda is one of Sonny's friends, Brenda tells him that she is - then Brenda asks Michael to give her a 'High Five.' Carly is further disgusted when Brenda asks to speak to Sonny alone. Carly takes Michael upstairs. Brenda tells Sonny that she came to let him know that Taggert is trying to twist her statement around and seems to currently believe that Brenda asked Alcazar to kill Sonny and Jax. But, as Brenda and Sonny talk, they are interrupted when Jason calls to inform Sonny that Jason found Mike drunk at Jake's and has taken Mike to Courtney's apartment. And Sonny rushes off to take care of Mike. When Sonny arrives at Courtney's, Sonny jumps all over Jason for dragging Courtney down to a place like Jake's to talk Mike into giving up on his drinking binge for the night. But Jason explains that Mike listens to Courtney, whereas, seeing Sonny would have just made Mike angry. Courtney defends Jason again and angrily reminds Sonny that the reason why Mike returned to drinking and gambling was because Sonny pretended to be dead and let his loved ones break their hearts with grief, while Sonny hid out at a safe distance! Mike hears Sonny's voice and joins the fray, as Mike blasts Sonny for his uncaring attitude toward his loved ones when Sonny faked his own death. Sonny asks to speak to Mike out in the hall, and Sonny blasts Mike for dragging Courtney into Mike's problems. Mike returns and apologizes to Courtney. When Sonny orders Jason to take Mike home, Courtney suggests that she go along to help Jason.

Carly warns Brenda that Carly does not plan to stand by and suffer in silence while Brenda throws herself at Carly's husband. And, Carly warns Brenda - 'Do not come in here and High Five my kid again!' Brenda asks why Carly is so uptight if Carly is that confident about Sonny's love for Carly. Carly gloats to Brenda that Sonny married Carly three times but left Brenda standing at the altar! Carly tells Brenda that Brenda was NOT strong enough to be Sonny's wife and Carly urges Brenda to go lean on Jax and mess up Jax's life. But Brenda informs Carly that Jax might be paralyzed. Carly is shocked to hear that news about her old business partner. Carly asks if the reason Brenda is there is because of Jam’s condition. (Implying that since Jax might be “damaged goods” then she’s coming after Sonny). Carly points out that Brenda hurts people and that Carly will not let Brenda hurt Sonny or Sonny's family! But Brenda reminds Carly that Carly is too selfish to be sincere about putting her 'family' first. Carly then orders Brenda to get out. But, as Brenda goes outside, she walks around in circles and then begins to beat on the wall. Sonny arrives and finds Brenda beating on the wall. As Sonny tries to speak to Brenda, Brenda appears not to hear him. Carly looks through the doorway and sees Sonny and Brenda together. Sonny is trying to get Brenda’s attention, “Brenda, Brenda”. Carly looks on in disapproval as Sonny tries to find out what is wrong with Brenda but Brenda just says that she is in a hurry to see Jax at the Hospital, and brushes Sonny off. After Brenda leaves, Sonny assures Carly that Brenda is not a threat to their marriage. But Carly tells Sonny that it is obvious that Brenda craves attention from both Sonny and Jax at the same time! Sonny explains that he wants to give Brenda enough money for her to be able to get the best medical care and live close to a clinic specializing in Brenda's illness for whatever time Brenda has left. Carly surprises Sonny when she urges Sonny to give the money to Brenda pronto and hurry Brenda out of town. There is no time like the present, Carly insists, as she encourages Sonny to give the money to Brenda that very night!

When Brenda arrives at the Quartermaine Mansion with Monica, everyone is on hand to greet her, including Lila and Reginald! After the rest of the Quartermaines retire for the night, Brenda goes out On the Terrace and is surprised when Sonny suddenly shows up! Sonny offers Brenda the $2 million that he believes Pier 52 is worth to him. But Brenda wants to know if Sonny just wants Brenda to leave town. Sonny tries to buy off Brenda for her to leave town. She is upset that he wants her out of town and she blames it on Carly. Sonny says Carly doesn't want Brenda around, but that's not why he's there. Sonny just wants to make sure she's taken care of. Brenda challenges him that he wanted to see her and that he's a big liar. Sonny says he loves Carly, and his marriage to Carly has nothing to do with Brenda, she has no effect on his marriage. Brenda claims she is staying in PC because Jax might be paralyzed, and until Jax asks her to leave.

Carly visits Scott and demands that he return the document she signed about Alexis and Sonny's one night stand. Carly threatens that if Scott does not return the document, Scott will end up losing Bobbie. Carly retrieves the affidavits she signed about Sonny and Carly's affair from Scott. Scott wants something else from Carly, he doesn't want her to monkey around with his relationship with her mother. Carly questions if Scott is serious about Bobbie, and he says yes. He then offers her a campaign button. A messenger brings Scott an envelope that contains pictures of Alexis and Sonny together.

Sonny returns home. Carly tells Sonny that Michael missed his first week of school and that his teacher wants to see them both. Sonny observes that he's only in first grade, and he wouldn't be learning much anyway that he missed. He tells Carly Brenda turned down the money and that she's staying. Carly is not pleased. Sonny tells Carly that Brenda is hanging around because of Jax. Carly sympathizes with Skye and Brenda's interference. She makes reference to Brenda just waltzing into town to take away Skye's happiness. Carly tells Sonny that she'll fight anyone for Sonny, even Sonny himself. But, she offers to let him go if he wants something else. Sonny says he doesn't want to leave, and that the three weddings were deliberate. Sonny says he can't live without her. They banter about who wants sex more, and end up kissing. Sonny and Carly are basking in afterglow and telling each other how lucky they are. Carly is thankful that Sonny didn't end up like Jax, but Sonny drops the bombshell that he'd make her leave if he knew he couldn't have her again. Sonny is mildly amused when Carly informs him that she plans to attend the debate with Bobbie. While Carly claims that she just wants to support her mother and that Carly truly believes that Sonny will be better off with Scott as D.A. than he would be with Alexis as D.A., Sonny offers the opinion that it would be more likely that Carly just wants to have a front-row seat to watch Scott snipe at Alexis.

Carly joins Bobbie as Alexis and Scott's debate gets under way. As Benny and Sonny watch the televised debate from the Penthouse, Scott blabs that the District Attorney knows for a fact that his worthy opponent is in bed with the mob literally. Scott then goes on to suggest that Alexis' aid and comfort to her client included romps in the hay with him. Sonny angrily leaves the penthouse, headed to the debate. Sonny suddenly arrives at the debate and Sonny insists that everything that Scott just said was a lie that Alexis worked for Sonny but their relationship never went beyond that.

Scott calmly announces that he has facts in black and white a signed statement by a witness, Carly Corinthos! Sonny looks at Carly to get her cooperation when he denies that he had any affair with Alexis. Carly announces to the press that she had no other alternative than to sign the affidavit since Scott threatened to report to Child Protective services and have her son taken away from her. Bobbie is stunned to hear this news and turns on Scott. She tells the press and everyone there that Carly tells her everything about her marriage to Sonny and never told her about any affair Sonny was having with Alexis and that they share everything. She tells Scott off and encourages everyone not to vote for him in the next election. Sonny threatens to sue Scott for slander and also warns Alexis not to use his name in connection to the mob or any of her other allegations or he will sue her as well. Alexis doesn't respond to that. She publicly accuses Scott of lying to her about not making this debate personal and sticking to the issues. Scott rebounds and insists the affidavit Carly signed was legitimate and that Alexis is avoiding the fact that she lied about her personal involvement with Sonny.

Sonny and Carly head back to the penthouse. Carly waits for Sonny to yell at her for keeping the fact that Scott blackmailed her from him. Sonny wants to know why she signed the affidavit and when she did it. Carly informs him that she signed the affidavit when Sonny left and shot Alcazar at Brenda's old cottage. Sonny accuses her of signing it to get revenge on him for him not telling her about Brenda. Carly tells him that she had no choice but to sign it and that she went to see Scott again and insisted on getting the copies of the affidavit from him. She asks Sonny why he went to the debate tonight. She guesses it was because he saw them on TV and wanted to come to Alexis' rescue. He tells her that he doesn't blame Alexis for hating him since her sister was killed in his warehouse and he did hurt her. Carly tells him that there is more he doesn't know about that she is keeping from him and it isn't her secret this time. Sonny insists she tell him what else she is keeping from him. Carly tells him she can't keep any more secrets from him and tells him that Ned isn't the father of Alexis' baby, he is. Sonny reacts in disbelief. Sonny has trouble believing Carly's statement that Sonny is the father of Alexis's baby. But Carly finally tells Sonny that Alexis went so far as to ask Carly for Sonny's medical records. Carly tells Sonny that she did not tell Sonny that Sonny was the father of Alexis's baby because Carly believed it was Alexis' place to tell Sonny.

Carly reminds Sonny that Robin messed up her life when Robin told A.J. that A.J. was the father of little Michael. As Sonny and Carly argue, Alexis suddenly arrives, but it is only to inform Sonny and Carly that, while she IS grateful that they both lied to protect her good name, Alexis will not be able to return the favor to Sonny and the D.A.'s office will prosecute Sonny if Alexis is elected as District Attorney and Sonny breaks the law. Alexis tells Sonny that she plans to dismantle his criminal empire, if she is elected District Attorney. Alexis is interrupted by an urgent call from Ned. But, before Alexis leaves, Sonny warns Alexis that he will never let her take anything that belongs to Sonny! As Sonny and Carly argue about Alexis, Edward arrives at the Penthouse. Edward announces to Sonny that Edward believes that Sonny is the father of Alexis' baby. Edward suggests a trade. Edward will help Sonny assert his parental rights to Alexis' baby in exchange for Michael returning to his true heritage as a Quartermaine. Sonny tells Edward that they might be able to do business except that Sonny does not believe that Sonny is the father of Alexis' baby. While Carly protests hysterically that Sonny can not make a deal, using her son as a bargaining chip, Sonny tells Edward that if Edward can bring Sonny absolute proof that Sonny is the father of Alexis' baby, Sonny will discuss the matter with Edward. Over Carly's protests, Sonny gives Edward some of his hair to be used for a DNA test. After Edward leaves, Carly blasts Sonny for bargaining with Michael, but Sonny tells Carly that Sonny only wanted Edward to bring the results of the DNA tests to Sonny so that Sonny will be able to take the DNA evidence into court and force Alexis to give Sonny visiting rights with his own child. Carly tearfully asks Sonny what Sonny will do if it comes down to a choice between Sonny's natural child and Michael. Sonny assures Carly that it will not come to that. Sonny will be able to outwit any of Edward's moves.

Sonny stops by Jax's hospital room. Sonny tells Jax he has a problem with Brenda wasting her time nursing Jax back to health when he has a wife. They exchange insults regarding Brenda when Brenda walks in. Brenda accuses Sonny of being so insecure he must feed on other people's insecurity, and Sonny asks her if she's a psychiatrist now too, in addition to a physical therapist. Sonny leaves.

At the Q's, Sonny enters through the terrace door surprising Brenda. Sonny accuses Brenda thinking that all of PC revolving around her and Candy Boy (Jax). Sonny goes to touch Brenda and she slaps his hand away. A gloating Edward enters the room. Brenda asks Edward to tell Sonny that she doesn't want to talk to Sonny ever, but Edward says he invited Sonny. Brenda leaves to see Jax. Edward wants to negotiate to make a deal, but Sonny isn't going for it until he knows for sure the baby is his. Sonny leaves. Next, Carly arrives at the Quartermaine Mansion to stop Edward's plan to convince Sonny to swap Michael for Alexis's baby, but Carly finds only Lila and Reginald. Lila tells Carly where to find both Edward and Sonny!

Edward enters Alexis' hospital room the room. Edward congratulates Alexis on her press conference. Edward alludes to uncertainty, claiming that if Alexis won the election, would she be found out? A technician enters the room with the results of the DNA tests he ordered. Alexis is curious, then Sonny enters the room. Alexis is surprised. Sonny tells Alexis he understands she's having his baby. Alexis is furious and frightened with Edward's latest interference. Carly arrives at Alexis' hospital room, spots the envelope with the DNA results, and grabs the papers out of Edward's hand. Carly is obviously shocked when the reads the test results. Edward, Sonny and Alexis are also all shocked that the DNA tests confirm that NED is the baby's father! (Ned faked the test results). In the hallway outside, Carly guesses that Sonny is disappointed that it is not his baby. Carly theorizes that Alexis wanted the baby to be Sonny's because Alexis was so desperately in love with Sonny that Alexis was willing to play every trick in the book to make Carly believe that Sonny was the father of Alexis' baby. Sonny warns Ned to keep Edward away from Sonny's family and Ned informs Sonny that Ned believes Alexis IS right and that Sonny does have blood on his hands including Kristina's death! Ned warns Sonny that Ned plans to make Sonny pay for every rotten thing Sonny has ever done.

Carly angrily accuses Alexis of lying to try to break up Sonny and Carly by conning Carly into believing that Sonny was really the the baby's father when Alexis knew all along that it was really Ned's baby. Ned and Sonny suddenly hear a crash from Alexis' room and rush to assist. Ned angers Sonny when he grabs Carly and pushes her out of Alexis's way in the hospital room. Sonny grabs Ned and puts him in a choke hold against the door. Alexis informs Sonny and Ned that her I.V. cart crashed on the floor and that Carly never touched her. Ned pushes Sonny out of the way. Sonny warns Alexis that if she ever tells the press anything that he told her in confidence he will sue her for malpractice and that her keeping the fact that he could have been her baby's father from him knowing what he has gone through is unforgivable and suggests that she and Ned leave him and Carly alone and he will do the same. Later, Alexis thanks Ned for outsmarting Edward this time and keeping Sonny from knowing he is the baby's father. She tells him that she realized today that she never wants her daughter to ever know that Sonny is her biological father.

Carly tries to talk to Sonny about Alexis but he doesn't want to talk to her about it and leaves. Brenda leaves the hospital in the pouring rain and finds Sonny standing outside letting the rain drench him. She asks him if he is ok. He tells her that he just found out he isn't going to be a father. Brenda listens to him and shows some sympathy towards him. He tells her that he and Carly lost their baby awhile ago. He tells her that maybe he isn't meant to be a father. Brenda tells him she doesn't think that is necessarily true. They share a tender moment huddled near each other in the rain. Sonny asks her what she needs. Brenda tells him that she doesn't have a long time to live to worry about it. Carly sees them together outside near the doorway. Sonny leaves Brenda out in the rain when she declines to get a ride from him.

Later, Carly runs into Jason at GH. She tells him about seeing Sonny with Brenda outside earlier and they looked cozy. She tells him that Sonny will probably leave her for Brenda now that he knows she lied about Alexis' baby and kept it from him and that it turns out it is Ned's baby after all. Jason tells her to stop jumping to conclusions and go tell Sonny she loves him and fight for him. He tells her not to worry about Brenda. He sees Brenda walking toward Jax's room. Jason grabs Brenda before she can go see Jax and hauls her into Sonny's limo. He tells her he is personally escorting her back to Europe to keep her from causing any more problems for Sonny or Jax. She tells him she wanted to go back to Europe but that Skye asked her to stay around and help Jax recover. Jason tells her that he doesn't care what she wants to do, and accuses her of causing problems in Sonny's marriage to Carly. Brenda realizes what this is about and comes up with some idea in her head and is about to share it with Jason, who just shakes his head in disgust.

Carly hopes that Jason's sudden disappearance means he's successfully removed Brenda from the field of play. Carly and Sonny are shocked when Jason and Brenda walk into the penthouse and announce they are married.
