January 13, 1981: 44 mins. Good quality. Alice & Tom, and Sister Marie arrives. Alex then arrives and is thrilled to see that Marie is back. Chris & Jack. Neil & ?, Marie & Alex talk. He mentions that she is rather quiet, she pleads being tired from the long trip. He asks if what Tom said about her almost not coming back is true? He asks if their daughter, Jessica, is part of that. She says she wants so much to be a mother to her daughter. She can’t just turn her back on her. Alex asks what about him? Did she miss him at all? Is she going to turn her back on him? She shakily agrees that yes she did miss him.

Alex and Marie both have flashbacks of their past relationship, Alex remembers kissing her but the fireside. Julie & Maggie. Mickey & Maggie. Alice & Mickey.

Don thinks of Marlena as Liz comes in and kisses him as they make dinner plans. She comes back with champagne, xavier, brie. They tot it. Jake Kosicheck calls Gwen and tells her that it is very important that he needs to see her immediately. He figures that since Gwen is Dr. Evan's roommate that she will have a key to Marlena's apartment. Jack barges into Gwen's office, and she sternly tells him she is with another client and he will have to wait outside. Jake complains to Gwen about being a suspect in the Salem Strangler murders. When Gwen is momentarily distracted, Jake steals her keys out of her purse (which is conveinently out on her desk). He makes an impression of the key, and tosses them back in her purse and suddenly leaves.

Renee is upset with Tony, she tells him their relationship was a mistake. He tells her they are in love and were planning on getting married and he can't just let her go without an explanation. She sobs in her grief but doesn't tell him the truth about why she is ending their relationship and runs out the door. Marlena and Roman have arrived and Roman takes Renee away. Marlena tells Tony that Renee is going to need time to deal with this and she is very fragile. Poor Tony doesn't understand any of this. Tony fears for Renee's life if the strangler finds out that she is back in Salem. Marlena suggests that Tony provide protection for her but there is no way that Renee can stay with Tony. Marlena and Renee are in Marlena's office and they talk about Stephano being her father. Tony calls and wants to see Renee. Renee takes the phone and tells him she doesn't want to see him and to stay away from him for awhile. He refuses to listen and tells her he is on his way over. Renee cries over the unfairness of the situation. Renee shows Marlena the letter and gives her permission to read it.

Back at the PCPD, Abe and Roman discuss the suspects. Roman is worried about Eugene's vision of seeing Marlena dead on the floor.

Doug has asked Mickey to come by and he asks about the DiMera family. He suspects they might be part of organized crime. He tells Mickey that he has some plans for the DiMera's and he would like Mickey to be his partner. He says his first plan is to keep Stefano busy so that Neil can spend time with a certain Madame X (Liz) who can't be free to follow her heart. So Julie has a plan to keep Stefano busy for the day, and if Mickey and Maggie can invite Stefano over dinner that will further keep him occupied for the evening, freeing up Madame X (name not mentioned out of chivalry) to spend time with Neil. Later, Maggie and Julie discuss the plan and Julie fills her in. Julie and Doug arrive at Maggie and Mickey and find Mickey spying on Stefano's house (Mickey's new neighbor).

May 17, 1982 Episode #1 - Tracking glitches throughout episode. Gretchen complains to Jake that Marlena is going to fire her. Gretchen was supposed to cancel Gwen moving in with Marlena, Gretchen wasn't able to get ahold of Gwen and didn't cancel and she went ahead and moved in and Marlena isn't happy with her about it. Jake Kosicheck calls Gwen and tells her that it is very important that he needs to see her immediately. He figures that since Gwen is Dr. Evan's roommate that she will have a key to Marlena's apartment.

Jake barges into Gwen's office, and she sternly tells him she is with another client and he will have to wait outside. Jake complains to Gwen about being a suspect in the Salem Strangler murders. May 25, 1982 Episode #2 - Neil tells Doug that Liz is afraid that Tony is backing out of their deal and she is afraid that she won't get her divorce. Renee tells David about being in love with her half-brother, Tony (not knowing he was her brother when she fell in love with him).

Roman and Abe are shaken to find Marlena has been murdered! Roman is shattered and kneels beside her body and brokenly calls out "Doc" as he grabs her hand. Abe tries to get Roman to leave the scene but he cries out that he isn't leaving her. Abe tells him they have to go to work. Roman tells him to leave him alone. Abe demands that they have to get Jake Kosichec and they can't let that maniac get away wit this. Abe gets through to him and Roman heads to the door. He runs into Don who sees the truth of the situation in Roman's grief striken eyes. Abe assures Don that they will find Jake that night! They have roadblocks up and are searching the bus terminal and airport. Abe calls Kayla and tells her that Roman needs her, that Marlena has been strangeled and they think Jake is the strangler. She shakily says she thinks she knows where Roman is.

David has Renee call Marlena as he thinks she can help her regarding her feelings for Tony. Abe answers and and he asks if anyone is with her. When she tells him that David is, he asks to speak with him and fills him in on Marlena's death. Abe tells the Horton's and Renee about Marlena's death. Tom calls Alex and tells him the terrible news. Tom then asks Doug to bring Julie over to the house and tells him Alice wants the whole family together and also tells him about Marlena.

Days May 27, 1982 Episode #3 - A somber Don has flashbacks to his relationship with Marlena. Roman also remembers conversations he had with Marlena, how he promised he would sleep on her floor until the strangler was caught and she was safe. Roman is lost in grief, compounded by his guilt over not protecting the most important person in his life.

Eugene having one of his vibes calls and tries to find out if Marlena has died? (he is one of Marlena's patients). He calls the hospital and Kayla answers the phone and he asks if Marlena is dead. An almost hysterical Eugene demands some straight answers or he is going to do something really stupid. Kayla offers to arrange for him to talk to someone at the PD. She calls Abe and tells him that Eugene is about to go off the deep end if he doesn't get some answers about Marlena. Abe offers to send an officer over to pick him up.

When Roman returns to the PD, Abe fills him in on Eugene. Roman then contacts Jake's brother, Chris, about making a public appeal to get Jake to turn himself in. Don has more flashbacks of Marlena, who is seen safe and sound arriving at the house Don is at. They just miss each other as Don leaves the house, not realizing Marlena is there. Eugene arrives and demands to know from Roman if the strangler got to her. Roman screams at him that yes Marlena is dead.

Eugene blames Roman and tells him that it is all his fault, that he was supposed to protect her. Roman tells him he knows it was his fault and he was in love with her. He says Eugene knows how much he loved her. Eugene apologizes as a devastated Roman leaves the room. Kayla arrives and softly puts her head on his shoulder. Abe and Eugene talk about the loss of Marlena. When Roman and Kayla come back in, Eugene apologizes again for his outburst. After he leaves, Roman tells Abe that he will never forgive himself for Marlena's murder.

Tony is also grieving over losing Renee. Liz knows it is about Renee but doesn't understand why he is so upset. He tells her to just leave it be. She tells him that while she doesn't love him anymore as a husband, she does still care about him. He refuses to discuss it. Liz doesn't understand why he let Renee leave the house with the strangler still out there? Tony is annoyed as he thinks she only wants the divorce for her own reasons.

Liz continues to press the issue about how much he and Renee love each other, until he loses his temper and tells her IF the divorce happens that he will decide on the when! Liz reels at the word "IF" as she thought it was all settled and agreed upon. Liz calls Neil (he isn't seen) and tells him that Tony has not agreed to the divorce and won't even discuss it. Doug and Julie arrive and realize Liz is upset and ask what is going on. They see the vase that Tony broke in his temper and are even more concerned.

Doug and Julie talk about the horror of Marlena's death, and they are reeling with the news that Jake is responsible. They are so relieved Hope wasn't in Salem during this time. They grieve over their friend and grieve for Roman's loss.

The corner reports to Roman & Abe that the latest Salem Slasher victim has been identified as Samantha Evans. A shocked Roman reports that is Marlena's sister!  The truth beings to dawn on him that Marlena is not dead!

Days July 14, 1982 Episode #4 - Then it goes to the next morning as Roman & Marlena wake up in bed together, a reunion as they embrace being together and talk about the time they were separated. They continue making out and enjoying being together. Marlena tells him how much she loves her ring. Marlena asks Roman what he was dreaming about last night as he tossed and turned and seemed like it was a bad dream. He admits it was about the accident. They talk about him being married to Anna, and he says that he could never get used to calling Anna, Mrs. Brady, even though it was only for three months. He tells her about dreaming of Anna's death in the accident and admits he has been having the dreams for a long time.

Roman and Marlena have breakfast in their room together, Marlena wrapped in a sheet and Roman shirtless. Marlena tells him that she had a dream that he saved her from the evil King and then he made slow sensuous love to her. He grins at her that wasn't a dream! Later, they talk about getting married. They are out in the country and Marlena can't wait to get back and tell everyone about their wedding plans. Roman groans that his mother is going to want to make a big production out of it. Marlena doesn't want to dissapoint Caroline and agrees to have a big wedding. Roman laughs that he can try to have Kayla convince her to wait for Kayla to get married to have the big wedding.

Stefano and Alex talk about the morning paper report of Neil being injured in an explosion and Stefano surmises this should keep him away from pursuing a married woman. Stefano wants Neil to stay away from Liz, who is married to his son (Tony?). Lane Davies plays Neil's doctor, Evan, and tells them that Tom suggested he speak to them as Liz & Marie (?) about whether they should operate on Neil as they are both good friends of his. Liz is unable to make a decision and Marie encourages her. Liz cries that even if Neil pulls through that she thinks she will have to give him up. They agree to approve the surgery and LIz asks to see him again. Evan tells her that if they don't operate immediately that he may not survive. A young Gwen goes to meet Don and she makes him breakfast. He is shocked to read the morning paper with the report of Neil's accident. He tells her a bomb was set in his room and it is suspected it had to do with his gambling. Don heads to the hospital and asks Liz if Tony is capable of trying to kill Neil? He knows she is in love with Neil. She doesn't think Tony loves her or would do this, but Don surmises she doesn't sound so sure.

Days July 19, 1982 Episode #5 - Roman tells Abe that he has finally asked Marlena to marry him and asks Abe to be his best man. Roman tells Abe about his first marraige to Anna five years earlier. Abe is surprised that Roman had never told him. Roman admits that he didn't want to discuss it. He says it was a pretty good relationship before it ended and technically he is still married (Anna drowned in an accident but was never found).

Neil is fighting for his life (a couple of days after the explosion that injured him). Liz visits Neil and cries that this happened to him as Stephano wants her to remain Tony's wife and Neil just has to live!
