Luis stood outside of Sheridan's cottage with a million questions racing though his mind. With one standing out the most. What did he do wrong? He walked over to the window and stared though it and looked directly at Sheridan. She was holding the plaque that he had given her after finishing her community service. He stared at her attentively as she got up. He saw that anger was boiling though Sheridan as she quickly looked at the plaque than threw it with all her might against the wall. Luis' heart sank as he saw her throw the plaque.
"So that's how she really feels about me," he said to himself as he turned around. Sheridan clasped into a chair and covered her face with her hands and began to cry and let her sorrows out. With his back turned Luis slowly walked back this patrol car and drove off. All the way home the seance played though his mind over and over again and each time hurting him more. All he could hear was the bang of the plaque hitting the wall then the floor. Each time the sound seemed to get louder and louder.
Luis walked into the house and took off his jacket. He saw Theresa sitting on the couch. She looked up and noticed that there was something wrong.
"Luis what's the matter? You look terrible."
"Nothing is the matter. I'm fine." Luis lied to her and himself.
"No, there is something wrong. I can tell it's written all over your face. Dose it have to do with Sheridan?" Theresa said with concern.
"Yes" Luis said.
"Do you want to talk about it? As you can see I have nothing better to do."
"No, I don't want to talk about it right now."
"Well, guess what your going to talk about it any way. Now have a seat and we'll discussed what's going on." Luis told Theresa about what happen. He got all his feelings off his chest. "I really thought we had something. I mean everything felt so right, thenwhen I saw her just throw the plaque like that. I saw how she really felt about me."
"Luis it sounds like you really fell hard for Sheridan."
"I guess I ooh I don't know. It all so confusing. I mean she happy to see me one minute and the next thing I know she slapped me in the face."
"Well, Luis there is only one thing I can say. If you really do have some kind of feelings for Sheridan you'll go back and find out what went wrong. That means you'll have to go back there and talk to her. You might also tell her how you really feel about her."
Luis sat there for a few seconds contemplating what his sister had just said to him. "That's really good advice but the thing is I don't think I can face her not after what I saw."
"You have to Luis. If you know what's best for yourself, you will realize that you have to clear the air with Sheridan. You don't want this bugging you for the rest of your life do you, Luis?"
"Your right Theresa I have to talk Sheridan before she leaves. I have to find out what happen to us otherwise I will always be wondering about what happen and what could have happened." Luis then got up and headed for the door but then turned around and gave Theresa a kiss on the forehead. "Thanks you, when did you become so smart." With that Luis rushed out of the door and headed for Sheridan's' cottage.
Sheridan looked at her hands and started to wipe away her tears. She sat there on the chair then moved to the floor. She sat there hiding from the world and her pain. All she could see was Luis on the phone saying how he was using her. It hurt Sheridan so much. How could this happen to her again? How could she let this happen to her self? "This is all my fault. How could I not see this sooner? I should have known better." Sheridan said out loud to her self. She looked up at the ceiling and rubbed her neck.
"I need to get out of here" Sheridan said as she got up. She walked over to the door and put her coat on. Sheridan opened the door and started to walk when she heard a car coming to the cottage. Sheridan quickly ran into the bushes and peeked through them. She saw the car park and Luis step out.
"What is he doing here?" Sheridan asked out loud. She didn't know what to do. Should she go up to Luis or hide in the bushes away from him? Sheridan decided to say in the bushes and watch Luis. She watched him walk up to the door and hesitate. Sheridan saw Luis just stand there for a few moments. She was tempted to go up to Luis and put herself in his arms, but she knew that couldn't happen. Not after what happened. She saw Luis pacing back and forth on her door step. Then Sheridan saw Luis finally knock on the door. She saw him nervously tug on his jacket and put his hand though his hair. He knocked on the door again. She then saw Luis walk over to her window and look thought it.
He then turned around and walk slowly back to his car. Sheridan peered through the leaves and looked at Luis just sitting in his car for a while. After a few minutes of just siting there Luis turned the car on and left. Sheridan stood up and watched the car drive away. She turned around and walked towards the beach. She played the scene in her head and wished so much she could have rushed into his arms and change everything. Sheridan then stopped and stared out into the ocean. She sat down in the sand and thought to herself. The wind blew though her hair and the clouds were rolling in. "In 48 hours I'll be out of here and back in Paris. Away from Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald." Sheridan said as she heard a rumble come from the sky.
Luis was in his patrol car driving home after his going over to Sheridan's cottage in a vain attempt. He was thinking of what to say next time he saw her. But one thing was for sure, he was going to find out why she treated him with rage and anguish. Then the phone rang. Luis picked it up and tried to keep his eyes on the road at the same time.
"Officer Lopez-Fitzgerald" Luis answered.
"Luis its Sam, I need you to do me a favor."
"Sure anything Sam, what do you need?" Luis asked wondering what on earth could be wrong with Sam.
"Well Luis, I need you to do my patrol for me. I'm over at the hospital. Charity is not doing to well."
"Is she going to be alright?" Luis asked.
"Well I don't know and neither do the doctors."
"That horrible Sam. Is Miguel there with you?"
"Yeah, Luis he's here."
"Could you tell him not to come home too late?"
"Ok Luis, I'll tell him bye."
"Bye Sam" Luis said then hung up the phone.
Luis slowed the car and turned it around and headed for the beach. On the way to the beach all Luis could think about was Sheridan. He tried to get her out of his mind, but he just couldn't. Raindrops started to come lightly down hitting the windshield of the car. The rain started to come down harder until all Luis could hear was the pounding of the rain. The sound reminded him of the sound of the banging plaque hitting the door. Luis then turned onto the beach and slowly drove down the sandy shore. Somehow the weather fit his mood. He was was in a rage, a torment, bewildered and sorry all at once. Luis just wanted to forget his feelings. He just wanted to clear his mind as he just keep driving.
Sheridan sat on the beach gazing out into the ocean reflecting the past few days to herself. First everything was so amazing. She felt like a giddy teenager experiencing her first love. Then she found out the truth. It hit her harder than anything. She was in pain, agony, dread, and rage. She thought she had found someone genuinely wanting her for herself, not what for what she could give him. Not for what her family could get. She thought everything had changed, but instead she found herself in the same position, broken hearted. Somehow this time was different from all the other men in her life, she felt alot worse. Sheridan felt a drop of water fall on the cheek and wiped it away. Sheridan layed back on the sand and looked up at the black sky. She closed her eyes and just listen to the waves crashing down hard on the shore. The rain began to come down harder but Sheridan just stayed there and let the water wash away her pain and her feelings. Sheridan suddenly sat up as she heard something coming. She looked over to the right and saw a light slowly come her way.
Luis kept his eyes on the stretch of beach ahead of him. Luis suddenly stop the car as he saw someone race in front of him and up the beach. Luis quickly jumped out of his car and ran in persuit of the person in the rain. The sand and rain made it harder for Luis to run. He saw the figure fall into the sand. As Luis got closer he pulled out his gun and said "Don't move police!" The figure stayed face down in the sand and didn't move. As Luis got closer he realized who was face down in the sand. "Sheridan?", Luis asked puzzled, "What are you doing out here?"
Sheridan rolled over as soon as she realized it was Luis' voice. She got up and pushed her wet hair out of her eyes and began to brush off the sand. Sheridan then turned away from Luis and started to walk away without responding to his question. But Luis then unexpectedly grabbed her arm and pulled her back towards him. "Sheridan what are you doing here?"
Luis asked again looking straight into her eyes. "None of your business. Now let me go so I can walk home." Sheridan said tugging her arm trying to get free from Luis. Luis wouldn't let go of her and held on to her tighter.
"Its raining, I'm not going to let you walk all the way home in this weather. I'll give you ride home." Luis said.
"No thanks. I prefer to walk in this weather. Thank you very much." Sheridan tugged again but this time Luis pulled her whole body back and threw Sheridan over his shoulder.
"What the hell do you think you are doing Luis!?" Sheridan yelled trying to get free of his hold on her by kicking.
"I'm taking you home. I'm not going to let walk home in the rain, let alone in the dark. You don't want to catch pnuemonia do you?" Luis asked as he was carrying Sheridan back to his car. "By the way I really need to talk to you."
"Talk about what? I think I've said enough all ready and I think I have made myself pretty clear that I don't even want to see you again." Luis opened up the car door to the back seat and tossed Sheridan in and closed the door. Sheridan tried to open the door but couldn't. Luis got inside the car and started the it. Both of them were soaking wet from the rain.
"There's some towels in the back if you want to dry off." Luis said pointing to the back of the car. Sheridan turned around and grabbed two towels. She threw one at Luis and started to dry her face with the other towel. Luis took off his wet jacket and used the towel she threw at him to dry off his neck and face.
Luis drove Sheidan home to her cottage. Neither one of them said a word to the each other. The only sound was that of the rain hitting the car. When they finally reached Sheridan's cottage Luis turned off the car and turned back to face Sheridan. She tried to open the door again but it was still locked. "Open this door will you" she demanded.
"No" Luis said turning to face Sheridan "not until you answer a few questions for me first."
